Chapter 119: The Management Bureau's Death Notice
At 10:55 a.m., on the fifth floor of Wanxiang City, inside the men's restroom of the cinema.
Bai Qiuwu walked inside while turning her head to observe the door of each stall.
Eventually, her gaze settled on the one at the end—only the door of this stall was closed.
She lowered her eyes to the doorknob, hesitated for half a second, reached for the cold handle, turned it to the right, and pushed the stall door open.
With a creak, a gap was squeezed open in the door.
Peering through the crack, she saw a figure seated on the toilet lid, with his head buried deep in his arms.
Bai Qiuwu stared at the person, froze for two seconds, then let out a sigh of relief and couldn't help but place her hand on her forehead, chuckling lightly.
Finally, she spoke in an annoyed voice, "Wake up, lazy bum, can you even sleep so soundly in a restroom?"
"Holy shit, big sis?!"
Ke Mingye, recognizing the familiar voice, suddenly lifted his head.
"Who else?"
Bai Qiuwu met his eyes and lightly tapped on his head with her finger.
Ke Mingye mumbled in a daze, "I had just stepped out when I saw a bunch of people dressed in black clothes and wearing masks, and then..."
Bai Qiuwu sighed and cut him off, "Ninjas... right?"
"Yeah, how did you know?!"
"Everyone encountered them, not just you alone."
"I thought I was the only one who saw them, I was so scared I thought I was seeing ghosts. Ninjas, in the 21st century?"
"Please, have you seen what's going on outside?" Bai Qiuwu tilted her head, her tone quite helpless, "Anyway, we need to hurry and leave, it's dangerous here."
She paused: "Are you not getting up quickly, how long do you want me to stay in the men's restroom?"
Upon hearing this, Ke Mingye thought this concerned his sister's honor and could not be delayed. He scrambled up from the toilet lid and while stepping out of the stall, he asked.
"What's going on, why are there ninjas? I've been sending messages in the group, but no one has replied."
"Who knows?"
"Is everyone else okay?"
"Zi Ni and Zi Ling are all right, Yongzhu... had some superficial injuries, but nothing serious." Bai Qiuwu said, "We didn't find big brother and second brother, but at the time of the incident, they weren't in Wanxiang City, so they probably weren't involved; no big issue."
"Big brother and second brother really, they're nowhere to be found at crucial times."
"And you have the nerve to talk about them, hiding in the restroom for ten minutes?"
"It was only ten minutes, you can't expect me to fight those ninjas to the death. I was almost scared out of my wits."
Bai Qiuwu fell silent for a moment: "Actually, it was right for you to hide here. I was quite worried when I was looking for you; afraid something might have happened to you."
"What about you, where did you go?"
"I got cornered by those ninjas, but they weren't after me."
"What on earth were they after?"
"You're asking me, who am I supposed to ask?"
Bai Qiuwu paused, as the face of Ke Yongzhu in the deep pit flashed through her mind, "Let's hurry up and leave through the back door. Walk faster, or when the Superhero Association arrives, I'm guessing we'll all be held for questioning."
"Do we not cooperate with the police investigation?"
"No, we need to find big brother and second brother first; we don't know how they're doing. We don't have time to deal with this." Bai Qiuwu shook her head, "Besides, there are so many people at the scene, they will tell the police the details."
"Okay."
Saying this, Ke Mingye and Bai Qiuwu left the men's restroom together.
As they walked, Bai Qiuwu suddenly recalled something and deliberately pulled his shoulder, avoiding one of the audience passageways and taking a longer route.
The Illusion Technique practitioner she had defeated earlier had died from excessive blood loss, and she didn't want Ke Mingye to see the corpse.
Did I go too far...
Bai Qiuwu thought to herself as she walked forward, her eyes shimmering with thoughts.
....
....
That night, in Huanjing West District, at Xinbei Xiji Hospital, within a certain ward.
Outside the window, one could see an elevated highway, with the brightly lit city behind it. A burst of flame soared into the sky, and colorful ripples blossomed in the night sky. The city was setting off fireworks, celebrating the anniversary of the foundation of the Superhero Association's Huanjing branch.
On the two hospital beds to the left and right lay two figures, and between them sat someone casually in a swivel chair, leaning against the wall, eyes lowered, flipping through a book.
The hospital room was enveloped in silence, the only sounds being the ticking of the clock and the rustling of the turning pages.
As fireworks soared into the night sky, a noisy hum mixed with faint voices wafted from afar.
As if disturbed by the noise, the figure on the right-hand bed's eyelids flickered, slowly opening.
"You're awake?"
Ke Yinzhi raised his eyes from the book, turning to look at him while speaking, "Your wounds have been dressed, and even though your constitution is evident, it's still best for you to lie down. I suggest you not get up." He yawned, "I'll take you home later... to avoid becoming a target for the Association's specialists."
"No worries, it's just a scratch."
Ke Xiaomo uttered a groan, struggling to sit up in bed, taking a deep breath.
"Ha... a gash in your belly, and that's called a scratch? Any later and you might not have been saved."
"I've learned a breathing technique for healing from the Ninja Sect; the wounds won't take long to heal. The bones will take some time to mend, but it's not a major problem."
Ke Xiaomo said as he closed his eyes, brought his hands together, and sat cross-legged on the bed.
