Chapter 566: The Elder Dragon's First Mission

The Earth Kingdom

Beneath the surface of the giant mountain, where massive caverns stretched for miles, the Earth Monarch stood like a mountain of stone.

Corrupted dragons had tunneled into the caves, thinking themselves clever.

They were wrong.

The Earth Monarch slammed his fists together.

Rumble!

The ground shook as the walls moved. Stalactites sharpened and plunged downward like spears.

FWISH! SWISH!

The tunnels collapsed, burying entire battalions of Scourge dragons under tons of stone.

"Let them rot under the weight of their sins," he rumbled.

The Earth Dragons worked tirelessly, reshaping the terrain, creating narrow kill zones, and encasing corrupted beasts in sarcophagi of jade.

The battle underground was brutal.

But it was in their favor—this terrain was their domain.

---

The Water Kingdom

Over the ocean's edge, where the skies met waves that stretched forever, stood the Water Empress atop a rising wave like a goddess.

Dozens of corrupted dragons surged from the depths of the sea—a fatal oversight on their part.

The Water Monarch raised her arms, a cold gleam passing through her serene eyes.

"Drown!" she declared in a loud voice.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Massive pillars of pressurized water slammed into the beasts, crushing bones and snapping wings.

---

The Wind Kingdom

Among floating islands and cliffside villages, the Wind Monarch—in his dragon form—soared on wings of pure air. Wind blades tore across the skies, each one sharp enough to slice a dragon in half.

He moved faster than the eye could follow—a blur of white and green.

The other Wind Dragons rode currents of their own creation, forming tornadoes that lifted and disoriented their enemies before launching them off the plateau into the abyss.

Every kingdom fought.

Every monarch stood.

And with each passing moment, they realized this was not a simple attack—but something more.

Back at the Western Gate – Frostpire Kingdom

The snow fell softly now.

It was almost peaceful.

Nox stood alone in the heart of the forest, not far from the place where he had last watched Lumi disappear into the distant trees. The corrupted dragons were gone here—either slaughtered, scattered, or consumed by the spirit horde he had unleashed. Now, silence filled the space.

The stillness was broken only by the soft hiss of wind gliding through the frozen trees.

He raised a hand.

And spoke one word:

"Come."

A blue portal materialized, and the Elder Dragon emerged. The elder landed a few paces before Nox, his golden-blue eyes meeting the boy's.

Not defiant.

Not broken.

But uncertain.

Nox folded his arms behind his back, watching the elder carefully.

"I assume you've had time to process," he said.

The elder narrowed his eyes slightly. "You—what did you do to me? Those creatures inside that place… were they speaking the truth?"

"Something like that," Nox shrugged nonchalantly.

For a moment, the elder's face twisted with restrained fury. His lips tightened. His hand twitched slightly as if tempted—just for a moment—to attack.

But nothing happened.

No magic gathered. No lunge forward.

Only… restraint.

"I want to hate you," the elder said slowly. "I should."

Nox tilted his head. "But?"

The elder stared at him.

A long silence passed.

Then: "But I can't."

He looked away, almost in frustration. "I feel no fear. No anger. Just… understanding. Like you're an extension of something I already accepted."

Nox understood the feeling very well. By taming the Elder Dragon, he had realigned the latter's priorities. His anger had dulled into reluctant respect. And that respect now walked dangerously close to admiration.

Nox stepped forward, closing the slight distance between them.

"I'm not your enemy," he said. "But I will be, if you resist again."

The elder said nothing.

Nox raised his hand again—not threateningly, but pointedly.

"I need someone inside the Supreme Dragon Court," he said. "Someone they trust. Someone they'd never suspect."

The elder blinked. "You want me to… spy?"

"Infiltrate," Nox clarified. "I don't care if you call it loyalty or compulsion. Either way, you'll report everything—Court movements, elder gatherings, secret discussions. Especially anything concerning me."

The elder frowned. "And what if I'm discovered?"

"You're strong," Nox said simply. "Act like nothing has changed. Because deep down, it hasn't. You're still a servant of the Supreme Court."

The elder flinched at that. The words struck him more deeply than Nox expected.

That was good.

He still had a sense of identity to build on.

"You will act naturally," Nox said. "Argue against me when they suspect me. Offer your opinion as you always have. But when you can, bring me information. Delay their moves. Distract them."

"And if they call me to act against you?"

"You'll do what you must. Just don't succeed."

That was confusing, but the Elder Dragon understood. After a moment of contemplation, the elder exhaled.

"…Understood."

It wasn't a full surrender.

But it was a beginning.

Nox nodded once, then turned slightly as if to leave. But he paused.

Suddenly, a pulse of energy surged in the air.

Not from Nox.

But from the elder's side.

A faint glow appeared behind his ear, forming into a shimmering blue symbol of eight dragons. It was the Supreme Dragon Court's special symbol.

Nox easily recognized it because he had seen it once before—when the Court came to arrest him.

It flashed once. Then again. Then pulsed rapidly.

The elder's expression stiffened.

"What is it?" Nox asked.

"They're calling an emergency gathering," the elder said slowly. "All high-ranking elders. Immediate attendance required."

"What triggered it?"

"It's the Supreme Elder—Zhun'var," the elder replied, narrowing his eyes.

A smirk tugged at the corner of Nox's lips as he spoke, "Then go," he said. "This is your first test. Listen. Observe. Return to me later and report back everything."

He would've tried to use Astral Vision to watch the meeting through the Elder Dragon's eyes, but Nox had a feeling the range would be too great for the skill to work effectively.

The elder nodded once, then transformed into his frost dragon form and flew away.

[Ding! Your system is now eligible for evolution.]

Just as Nox prepared to return to his hunt, an interesting screen shimmered before him.
