Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A Side Quest
But Victor forgot one thing.
Whoosh!
"So fast!"
It was a level 10 Skeleton Boss—its physical strength was naturally superior to his.
As a result, before he could cast his spell, the Skeleton took advantage of his weakness and struck him hard in the stomach with its bony elbow.
"Bang!"
His ribs creaked under the impact as his vision blurred for a moment.
Swoosh!
He was sent flying several meters backward, crashing onto the cracked cobblestone ground with a heavy thud. The impact sent dust and debris flying into the air.
"Ugh..."
He clutched his stomach, his breathing ragged, as waves of excruciating pain radiated from his abdomen. His insides felt like they had been hollowed out.
[ Health -5 ]
"Phew!"
Despite the pain, he forced himself to exhale slowly, releasing a mouthful of foul air, filled with the taste of iron and dust. His eyes darted toward the Village Chief Skeleton who was already preparing another attack.
The Village Chief had once again formed a fireball.
Red flames swirled above its bony fingers, gathering into a fireball.
Out of survival instincts, adrenaline surged through his veins.
"Null Field!"
Before the boss Skeleton could throw the fireball toward him, Victor stood up and charged toward it instead.
"Die!"
He roared as he hacked down at the Village Chief with the bronze Sword in his hand, all while his Anti-Magic Field was still active.
However, before his bronze sword could even reach the skeleton, it had already crumbled to pieces due to Antimagic Spell.
Aa a result, his sword only met with empty air.
[ You have slain the Village Chief - Level 10 ]
[ Exp +300 ]
The Anti-Magic Field was still effective even against a level 10 enemy, which was a big relief. Otherwise, it would have taken a toll on Victor to finish it off.
[ Exp: 1760/2000 ]
Victor stood still, his chest rising and falling rapidly as the adrenaline rush worn off. His hands trembled, but not from fear, from the sheer intensity of the battle.
It was exhilarating, but equally frightening as well.
His gaze was gradually drawn to the shimmering glow of red and blue light where the village chief Skeleton stood earlier.
He Stepped forward with anticipation, expecting some kind of treasure this time. Surely, something good should drop from a boss-level figure, right?
As he neared the dropped items, their details appeared before his eyes.
[ Spell Book - Fireball (F): Grants the user the ability to cast a basic Fireball ]
[ Story Book (Bone Village) ]
[ Do you wish to learn the Story of Bone Village? ] [Yes/No]
Victor picked up the Fireball Spell Book first, which radiated a red glow, while the Story Book emitted a blue hue.
"Hmm... Let's see if I can learn it."
He attempted to absorb the spell book by crushing it, but was met with immediate rejection.
[ Error! You cannot learn this spell. ]
He sighed in disappointment, though he had expected as much.
"Sigh, at least I can sell it for some money."
Placing the Spell Book inside his inventory, he considered selling or trading it later.
In the real world, people would be willing to pay a good amount for a Fireball Spell, as it was a easy to learn and had destructive capabilities.
A few thousand dollars were almost guaranteed in his pocket.
"Now, let's see what their story is."
Victor chose to learn the Story Book, curious about what it had to reveal.
Then, a scene played in his mind.
—
A peaceful village where everyone lived harmoniously.
On a particular day...
Farmers tended to their lands. The butcher brothers were busy skinning a wild pig with their knives. Children played joyfully, while the elderly spent their leisure time gathered together, chatting. Each villager was engaged in their own daily routine.
The village chief was practicing his Fireball spell, which he had recently learned from a passing mage in exchange for cattle.
Everything was peaceful like any other ordinary days.
But suddenly, the sky darkened.
"Rumble!"
Thunder rumbled, and from the sky descended a cloaked figure.
His robe was black as the abyss, and his glowing red eyes radiated an eerie presence.
In his hand, he held a sinister tome—one brimming with dark magic.
A Dark Magus.
"Heh heh... This seems like a good place for my experiment—to grow my undead army."
With a chilling cackle, the Dark Magus cast an ominous spell over the Bone Village.
Dark energy surged in every direction, seeping into the bodies of the villagers.
No one was spared.
Their flesh rotted away, leaving only their skeletal frames.
Innocent children, women, the elderly—absolutely none escaped the curse.
They were condemned for eternity—their souls trapped in undeath, bound to the Dark Magus's will.
They would remain in endless torment, mere pawns for him to harvest when he returned.
It seemed there was no chance of Salvation for the villagers.
But one day, a hero arrived—one who had freed them from their torment, taking upon the honorable task granting salvation upon himself.
His figure radiated a divine brilliance so intense that, wherever he walked, the poor souls were freed from their terrifying curse by his sheer presence alone.
And that figure was none other than Raizel Ashblade—or rather, Victor himself.

After seeing the story and reading through the notifications, Victor was speechless.
"Just how did I become a hero? Wasn't I just slaughtering them to increase my strength?"
"And what's this quest? Killing the Dark Magus without any clue? He must be ridiculously strong too. Should I accept?"
He hesitated. Accepting it could potentially lead him into greater danger. But 100 million EXP was really tempting.
After careful consideration, he clicked "Yes."
[ You have accepted the quest. Quest progress: 0% ]
Victor chose "yes" mostly because he had nothing to lose at this moment. It wasn't like he was forced to kill the Dark Magus immediately.
When he became stronger and eventually encountered the Dark Magus, only then would he fight him.
And that—only after making sure he could win.
With everything sorted out, Victor decided to leave before he was unfortunately caught by the Dark Magus.
His luck already seemed out of favor today.
However, just as he followed the main road out of the village, he noticed two people entering instead.
