Tale of Conquerors

Chapter 2: The Call to Explore

The morning sun painted the plains in shades of gold as Alexander stepped beyond the boundary of his small territory. His stone spear rested firmly in his grip, the uneven weight a reminder of how far he had to go.

The system's latest prompt lingered in his mind: "Explore the surrounding area to locate key resources." He didn't know what kind of resources he was looking for, but sitting idle wasn't an option.

The wind carried the faint scent of earth and grass as Alexander moved forward, his dark eyes scanning the horizon. The open landscape offered little in terms of cover, but it also made it easier to spot movement.

"First rule of survival," Alexander muttered, his voice low. "Know your environment."

A Chance Discovery

An hour into his journey, Alexander came across a shallow stream cutting through the plain. The water glinted in the sunlight, and small fish darted beneath the surface. He crouched near the edge, cupping his hands to take a drink.

The cold water was refreshing, but his sharp eyes caught something more—a cluster of smooth, dark stones scattered along the bank. Picking one up, Alexander ran his fingers over its surface.

"Flint," he murmured, recognizing the telltale texture. "This will do." But he put gathering them for later.

When he looked around he found a high point close by, that was his next objective. When he finally climbed up there he saw a glimmer of civilization, a village of sorts with many chimneys. He decided to go there later, the mission on had was more important.

He spent the next half hour gathering as much flint as he could carry, placing the sharpest pieces into a makeshift sling crafted from his coat's inner lining.

The system chimed softly, the panel appearing in the corner of his vision.

[Resource Discovered: Flint]

Use: Crafting tools and weapons.

Bonus: Increases effectiveness of basic weapons by 15%.

[Objective Progress: 50% Complete]

Alexander stood, adjusting the weight of the sling over his shoulder. The flint would improve his spear and perhaps allow him to make better tools. But he wasn't done yet.

The Plains' Hidden Danger

The sun was high overhead by the time Alexander spotted something unusual—a patch of disturbed grass near a large rock formation. He approached cautiously, his stone spear angled forward.

As he neared, the ground shifted slightly, and a low, guttural growl emanated from beneath the grass.

"Of course," Alexander muttered, his grip tightening on the spear.

The creature burst from the grass—a wild boar, its tusks sharp and its eyes glinting with rage.

The Fight

The boar charged, its heavy body barreling toward Alexander with surprising speed. He sidestepped at the last moment, driving his spear into its side. The stone tip bit into flesh but didn't penetrate deep enough to stop the beast.

"Not good enough," Alexander hissed, pulling the spear free and circling around.

The boar turned, blood staining its flank, and charged again. This time, Alexander crouched low, his muscles coiled like a spring. At the last moment, he thrust upward, driving the spear into the boar's neck.

The beast let out a final squeal before collapsing, its massive body kicking up dust as it hit the ground.

Alexander leaned on his spear, his breath coming in short gasps. His dark eyes scanned the area, ensuring no other predators had been drawn by the noise.

The system's panel appeared again, offering a reward for his effort.

[Event Complete: Defeat the Wild Boar]

Reward: Unlock Path of Hunting.

[Path of Hunting Unlocked]

First Idea: Tracking

Personal Buff: Alexander gains +30% efficiency in identifying and following tracks.

Territory Buff: Hunters within Alexander's territory gain +20% yield on meat, skins, and other resources.

Alexander studied the notification, his sharp mind already assessing its potential. The Path of Hunting would give him an edge in securing food and animal resources—not just for himself but for anyone who joined his territory.

"Useful," he said quietly, wiping the blood from his spear. "But this spear won't last much longer."

Returning to the Territory

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, Alexander made his way back to his small camp. His sling was filled with flint, and the boar's carcass dragged behind him, tied to a strip of bark.

The boundary shimmered faintly as he crossed it, the familiar sight bringing a faint sense of relief.

Alexander set the carcass down near the fire pit and began working. The flint he'd gathered was sharp enough to replace the stone tip of his spear, creating a sturdier and more effective weapon.

The system chimed softly as he worked, marking his progress.

[Objective Complete: Expand Your Territory]

Reward: Unlock Path of Exploration.

[Path of Exploration Unlocked]

First Idea: Pioneer

Personal Buff: Alexander gains +25% efficiency when scouting new territories, identifying key resources and hazards faster.

Territory Buff: Settlements established in new territories gain +10% initial morale and productivity.

Alexander leaned back, examining his upgraded spear. The flint tip glinted faintly in the firelight—a small improvement, but a necessary one.

The camp was quiet, the distant sounds of the plains carrying a strange sense of calm. Alexander stared into the flames, his dark eyes reflecting their flickering light.

"This world wants me to survive," he murmured. "But I'm going to do more than that."
