Chapter 9: A game of power
She was in so much shock that screaming or even trembling in fear didn't come to her head.
Eden pressed the knife deeper into the now open flesh, causing more pain and blood.
The blood dripped so much it stained the little necklace on her neck.
A slim silver chain with a small Taffaite stone pendant. The only jewelry that was able to survive her crazy adventure.
"Why?" she winced in pain.
At this point, she wanted him to cut her neck off and end the pain. But he was deliberately slowly the process. Causing pain in ways she has never imagined. What hurt the most was not the sharp golden knife on her neck, it was the fact that the man that she has loved so much. The man that has stood by her, who became a mother and father to her was the same man trying to kill her. It made her heart bleed.
Eden moved the knife backwards a bit, giving her injured neck a little space to breathe.
"Eden?" she said as the pain reduced. "This isn't you."
"Things would have been easier if you went with the flow, and got killed by lord Hencler," He grinned.
"He would have just cut your head just like he did that servants."
The little pieces of her heart shattered all over again.
Terra.
She was killed and paraded as a witch around town.
Eden and Lord Hencler, Dominic's uncle, were behind all this?
It wasn't making any sense. The only question she had was "Why?"
"But no, you chose to make my job a lot more difficult than it should be. It's only tmdeserving that I do the same to you." His grin grew wider. Using the sharp pointy end of it, he drew lines across her shoulders, blood trickled down every part that was touched with the sharp object.
"Eden this isn't you," Iris said even though staring into his eyes, all she could see was a dark empty soul. No love and affection which he had always had.
"Why would you want me, your only sister, dead?"
"You are not my sister," These words maybe just words for the sake of his hate. But uf felt so real. So fucking real.
"You know what?" he yawned. He was already halfway done with completely scarring her left arm.
The rug on the floor was now stained with blood dripping from her arm.
"I bored, let's get this over with," He raised his sharp knife with so much force that one slit would be enough to cut her throat open and end her.
She closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable fate.
With this, she wished she had let Hencler kill her, at least, the ache in her chest wouldn't be there and she wouldn't have died knowing her brother wanted her dead.
Just before the knife could come in contact with her throat, something happened.
It happened so fast that she couldn't explain it but the knife fell from Eden's hand and he bent the other side, wincing in pain.
She looked down only to see an arrow was shot straight into his wrist.
"How?" She wasn't given time to ponder on that before her knight in shining armor came racing towards her.
"Matteo,"
Of course he made it there just in time to save her life.
"We need to get out of here, NOW!" He held her uninjured hand.
She could only stare with a blank face. Her heart was filled with so much contradictions, so much pain. She wanted to stay and yell at Eden until he gave her an answer. Why was he doing all this?
As if reading her mind, Matteo said, "We don't have time. They'll kill us!"
His words rang like a bell in her head. Eden was already standing to his feet again. Though in pain from the arrow, one word from him would be enough to end their lives.
Following his lead, they went through the big wooden door, raced to where Matteo had kept his horse and mounted.
"Take the reins," Matteo said, putting her in front.
"I don't think…" She started a protest, wanting to tell him that the only horse riding she had ever done was the one that Ladies do. The calm, regal horse riding, not the life escaping one.
"it's the only way I can halt the guards." He said, sitting behind her. "Guards!! Don't let them out!" Eden, who had managed to drag his ass out of the manor, commanded.
He was trying to get to them with all the strength he could muster.
"No way, brother," Matteo said, aiming his arrow at Eden again.
The distance that Iris had put between them made it hard for him to get the target. But he did manage to shoot the arrow in a place that'll keep Eden down a bit.
"Move as fast as you can." Marteo said breathlessly. "Don't stop, until we make uf out," he added.
Iris did as she was told adn did not stop.
Guards flocked from behind, even though Matteo was using his bow and arrows, it couldn't hold them down completely.
In front of them, thm , about five guards stood in place, waiting for them with their sharp swords.
Matteo aimed for their hands each.
Destabilizing them instantly.
They got to the little gate and raced out of it.
Now that they were out, Matteo took the reins and rode even faster.
"They're coming," Iris pointed at the men trooping towards them alongside Eden.
"We will get out, don't panic," Matteo said with so much confidence.
"How?"
"Just trust me blondie."
The night was dark and there were so many woods surrounding them.
Enough to get lost within seconds.
"No one knows the in and outs of the capital as much as I do," Matteo bragged as they started losing the men's trail.
"I'll ride us to safety,"
At this, Iris leaned in on him, her back pressed against his chest.
Shs had a lot running in her head.
Too much.
But this was not the time to think about it.
