Chapter 2: CHAPTER 3: THE DECISION DECIDED
Calanthe spent the rest of the night tossing and turning, her mind racing with thoughts of Kairos's proposal. She couldn't shake off the feeling that she was taking a risk, that she was stepping into unknown territory.
As the sun began to rise, Calanthe threw off the covers and got out of bed. She padded over to the kitchen, pouring herself a cup of coffee as she stared out the window.
She was out of the world with thoughts on her mind. What was she going to do? She thought about her friends, her family and her reputation. She thought about Kairos and the way he made her feel.
As she stood there, lost in thought, Calanthe's phone buzzed. It was a text from Kairos.
Before opening to read the text, she poured herself a cup of coffee on her right hand that she was starring her coffee without thinking that it can burn her, since she was in thoughts.
"Ouch! What a hell have I done to my hand? It's all this arrogant, ruthless man who thinks that he is powerful." Calanthe complained.
She then opened the message that he had texted. "Have you made your decision?" Kairos asked.
Calanthe hesitated for a moment, wondering what to say. But then she took a deep breath a typed out a response.
"Yes," she said. "I'll do it."
As soon as she hit send, Calanthe felt a rush of adrenaline. She had made her decision, and there was no turning back now.
Kairos responded almost immediately. "I'll send a car for you at 7pm," he said. "Be ready."
Calanthe's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. She was really doing this. She was going to pretend to be Kairos's girlfriend, and see where it took her.
Mixed feelings of excitement and nerves, Calanthe couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Would she be able to pull off the charade? And what would happen when it was all over?
Only time would tell.
Calanthe spent the rest of the day in a daze, her mind racing with thoughts of what was to come. She tried to focus on her work, but her heart wasn't in it.
As the clock ticked closer to 7pm Calanthe's nerves began to get the better of her. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down, reminding herself that she had made a decision and now it was time to see it through.
At 7pm sharp, a sleek black car pulled up outside Calanthe's apartment. She took a deep breath, grabbed her purse and stepped out into the night.
The driver, a tall, imposing man with a stern expression, greeted her with a nod. "Miss Everett," he said. "Please, get in."
Calanthe hesitated, Was she really ready for this? But then she took a deep breath and stepped into the car.
As they drove through the city, Calanthe couldn't help but only feeling extremely excited. She was doing something new, something adventurous. And who knows, maybe she would even enjoy it.
The car pulled up outside a luxurious mansion, and Calanthe's eyes widened in awe. This was where Kairos lived?
The driver opened the door and gestured for her to get out. Calanthe took a deep breath and stepped out into the night, her heart pounding fast.
As she looked up at the mansion, Calanthe couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. She was about to embark on a journey that would change her life forever.
And with that thought, she took a deep breath. ("You can do it! Don't get worried Calanthe.") Calanthe's thoughts. She then took a step forward, into the unknown.
Calanthe stepped into the mansion, she was immediately struck by it's opulence. The foyer was grand, with a sweeping staircase and a crystal chandelier that refracted the light in a thousand different ways.
A butler, impeccably dressed in a tailcoat, greeted her with a bow. "Welcome, Miss Everett," he said. "Mr. Blackwood is waiting for you in the study."
Calanthe nodded, feeling a flutter in her chest. She followed the butler through the winding corridors, her eyes taking in the lavish decorations and the priceless artwork that adorned the walls.
They arrived at the study, and the butler knocked discreetly on the door. "Enter," a deep voice called out.
The butler opened the door and Calanthe stepped inside. Kairos was seated behind a massive desk, his eyes fixed intently on her.
"Ah, Calanthe," he said, his voice low. "Welcome. I see you are right on time."
Calanthe nodded as she was looking down feeling shy and feeling a sense of trepidation. What did Kairos have planned for her?
"I trust you're ready to begin our little charade?" Kairos asked with a giggle on his face.
Calanthe took a deep sigh and nodded. "I'm ready," she said, trying to sound confident.
Kairos smiled, his crinkling at corners. "Excellent," he said. "Then let's go get started, shall we?"
Kairos stood up from behind his desk and walked around to where Calanthe was standing. He towered over her, his presence both intimidating and exhilarating.
"First things first, we need to get one thing straight," Kairos said, his eyes locked on hers. "While we're in public, you're my girlfriend. You'll act accordingly, and you'll do what I say."
Calanthe felt a surge of resentment at his words, but she pushed it down. She had agreed to this, after all.
"I understand," she said, trying to sound meek.
Kairos's eyes narrowed, as if he could see right through her. "Good," he said. "I'm glad we understand each other."
He reached out and took her hand, "what happened to you hand?" he said, his voice husky. His fingers wrapping around her injured hand like a vice. Calanthe felt a jolt of electricity at his touch, and she couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to be with him for real.
"I don't want my fake girlfriend to have scars on her hand or any where, so it's my responsibility to take care of you." He said as he was whispering in her ear.
Kairos got a first aid kit, removed a bandage and grabbed Calanthe's hand. He then tied a bandage on her hand as Calanthe was starring at him. ("He is arrogant but he has a good side of him.") Calanthe's thoughts.
"Shall we?" Kairos asked.
Calanthe nodded, and together they walked out of the study and into the waiting limousine.
As they drove through the city, Calanthe felt excited. She had no idea what the night held, but she was ready for whatever came next.
They pulled up outside a luxurious restaurant and Kairos helped Calanthe out of the limousine. He smiled at her, his eyes crinkling at corners.
"Time to put on a show," he whispered, his breath sending shivers down her spine.
Calanthe smiled back at him, having trepidation mixed feelings with excitement. What would the night bring?
