Way'Lee sat in the quiet of her chamber, staring at the silver basin before her. The moonlight poured through the delicate lattice of the window, casting intricate shadows on the polished wood floor. She dipped a trembling hand into the cool water and brought it to her lips, trying to settle the nausea that had plagued her for weeks.

She had known for some time. Her body had whispered the truth before her mind was ready to accept it. The moment she had missed her monthly cycle, the realization struck like a silent thunderclap. And now, there was no denying it—she carried Wang Jo's child.

Her heart pounded with a mix of emotions: joy, fear, uncertainty. As a Fox Spirit, she had lived through centuries, weaving in and out of human affairs, but never had she faced something as profoundly irreversible as this. A child. A life formed between two beings from different worlds.

She placed a protective hand over her abdomen, already feeling the faintest flicker of energy within her. Would the child be human or fox? A creature caught between two fates, just as she had been for so long?

She had not told Wang Jo yet. She feared his reaction. Would he be elated? Would he see it as a blessing or a burden? Their love had grown, deepened like roots weaving into the earth, but was it strong enough to withstand this truth?

A knock at the door made her tense.

"Way'Lee?" Wang Jo's voice was deep, gentle, a sound that had become both her anchor and her undoing.

She quickly straightened, smoothing her silk robe before answering. "Come in."

He entered, his presence filling the room with quiet strength. His dark eyes searched her face, sensing something unspoken. He was always perceptive, always attuned to her shifts in mood.

"You're troubled," he said, stepping closer. "Tell me."

Way'Lee hesitated. Her hands tightened in her lap. She had always been fearless, yet now, in the face of his concern, she wavered.

"I—" She swallowed. "There is something I must tell you."

Wang Jo knelt before her, taking her hands in his. His warmth steadied her, but it also left her vulnerable. She took a shaky breath, then finally, she said it.

"I am with child."

Silence.

Wang Jo's hands tightened around hers, his eyes widening. For a moment, she couldn't read him. Was it shock? Fear? Then, something shifted in his expression—something deeper, rawer.

He exhaled, and to her astonishment, a smile broke across his face.

"A child?" His voice was almost reverent, as if the word itself carried divine weight.

Way'Lee nodded, her throat tight. "Yes."

Wang Jo let out a breathless laugh, his hands moving to her waist, pulling her close. His forehead pressed against hers, and she felt the warmth of his joy spreading through him.

"Way'Lee, this… this is the greatest gift," he murmured.

Tears burned at the edges of her vision. She had feared rejection, doubt—but instead, she was met with love, unshaken and unwavering.

"We don't know what the child will be," she whispered. "Fox or human… or something in between."

"It doesn't matter," Wang Jo said. "They will be ours."

A tear slipped down her cheek, and Wang Jo kissed it away.

Outside, the moon hung heavy in the sky, bearing silent witness to the beginning of a new destiny—one that neither of them had foreseen, yet both embraced with their entire heart
