The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (in Marvel)

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Are You Interested in Cooperating With Us?

Entering the lab, a group of scientists in white coats were busy, not even bothering to spare Saiki Kusuo a glance.

A cacophony of their inner thoughts flooded Saiki Kusuo's mind.

That fire-spitting mutant has pretty good abilities, worth researching. Need to go a bit easier this time, if we kill another one, Colonel Stryker will have a fit.

Damn, that electricity-shooting bitch almost fried me earlier. She likes to shock people so much, let's give her a taste of that 100,000-volt electric chair, see who's tougher!

The mutants Stryker's been bringing in are really fragile. This is the tenth one to die this month. At this rate, there won't be any mutants left to experiment on.

Calling these people scientists was an insult to the title. These guys should be called lunatics.

Saiki Kusuo suddenly understood a little better why Erik had such deep hatred for humans.

Different beliefs and standpoints led to constant deepening of conflict and hatred. Charles's desire for peaceful coexistence was simply a pipe dream.

Saiki Kusuo was forced to witness a sickening human experiment. His mentality, which had always been that of a bystander who had accidentally stumbled into this world, began to change amidst the agonizing screams of the test subject.

The butterfly effect... sometimes, it might even make the world a better place.

Saiki Kusuo, wandering around aimlessly, eventually caught the attention of these lunatics. After all, this was a highly confidential experimental project, and a stranger suddenly barging in and walking around the lab was a blatant disregard for them.

An Asian man, still holding a bloody scalpel, approached him with a menacing expression.

"Who are you?" he demanded harshly. "You look unfamiliar. You're not from the lab, are you? This isn't a place you can just wander into. Get out!"

He brandished the scalpel in his hand, seemingly warning Saiki Kusuo that if he didn't leave, he'd end up like the test subjects.

Saiki Kusuo didn't speak. Seeing his lack of response, the Asian man was about to take action when he was suddenly smacked hard on the back of the head.

"You imbecile!"

When the Asian man heard that the voice scolding him belonged to his superior, his expression turned fearful.

Professor Gilbert, a tall, imposing man with a grizzled beard, glared fiercely at his clueless subordinate, then turned to Saiki Kusuo with a fawning expression.

"Mr. Saiki, good afternoon. Welcome to our laboratory."

Then, a group of people surrounded him, completely different from their cold demeanor earlier.

A man pulled Saiki Kusuo to his experimental area, introducing it enthusiastically.

"Look, Mr. Saiki, this is a regenerative serum I created by extracting genes from a mutant with powerful regenerative abilities. Anyone injected with this serum, no matter how severe their injuries, can recover."

(Why are you working in an illegal base if you have this kind of technology? What a waste of talent.)

The man continued, "However, due to insufficient funding, it's only in the testing phase, and the serum's effects aren't very obvious. But if Mr. Saiki is willing to invest one billion, I guarantee this experiment will be a success!"

(It sounds so real, but it's all about the money.)

"Pfft, what's so great about that!" a man with a goatee scoffed, unceremoniously pulling Saiki Kusuo to another side.

"Sir, please look at my experiment." The goatee held up a vial of blue serum. "I discovered that mutants generally live longer than humans, so I extracted samples from a 200-year-old mutant and developed a longevity serum. Anyone injected with this serum can extend their lifespan."

(It sounds incredibly unreliable. Don't tell me you want one billion in investment, too.)

As it turned out, Saiki Kusuo, whose monthly allowance was only 10,000 yen, was too naive. The other man gestured with a number that Saiki Kusuo could never imagine in his lifetime.

Incidentally, the currency for these amounts was British pounds, as these two were from the UK.

More and more people showed Saiki Kusuo their experimental results, making him wonder if he had a face that screamed, "easy mark."

In the end, the group had revealed everything, both what they should have and what they shouldn't have.

To Saiki Kusuo's disappointment, there was no information about the gem.

The lab door was pushed open again, and in came Stryker, who had rushed over after hearing the news.

He found it strange when he received the message in his office that the investor had come to visit the lab. In his memory, the mysterious investor had never visited their base, and he hadn't received any notification that the investor would be coming.

Worried that it might be X-Men infiltrating to steal information, Stryker had rushed to the lab with his men.

The moment he saw Saiki Kusuo, his stern face transformed into one of extreme flattery. He grasped Saiki Kusuo's hand ingratiatingly.

"Mr. Saiki, your presence truly graces the Stryker Experimental Base."

His tone was so sincere and passionate.

John, who was following him, pouted and couldn't help but mutter, "Damn capitalists." He was given a warning glare by Zero and shut up.

Stryker then exchanged pleasantries with Saiki Kusuo. Seeing that he wasn't very interested, and believing he had successfully whetted his appetite, Stryker gave a mysterious smile.

"Of course, these are just minor experiments. Please follow me, Mr. Saiki. I guarantee you'll be satisfied with the experiments inside."

Stryker led Saiki Kusuo to a secret room, where the Adamantium experiment was underway. Test Subject #1 was Logan, who possessed super-healing abilities. Seeing him in this unconscious state, the experiment had likely already been performed.

The second test subject was Wade. He was much weaker than Logan in terms of physique, but he was a backup in case Logan's experiment failed.

Stryker walked up to Logan and introduced him to Saiki Kusuo. "Test Subject #1 has already completed the experiment. If he wakes up within seventy-two hours, the experiment will be considered a success. Then, all we need to do is erase his memories, and he can be used by us, becoming the best weapon against mutants. Of course, if #1 fails, we have #2 as a backup. What do you think of this experiment?"

(It's absolutely terrible...)

Saiki Kusuo couldn't help but criticize inwardly, while simultaneously reporting the situation to Charles.

Erik, upon hearing this news, sneered at Charles, "See, I told you he was unreliable."

Charles ignored his taunt and asked Saiki Kusuo, "Do you think we should act immediately?"

Saiki Kusuo, while responding to Stryker, subtly checked Logan's condition and asked, "How long will your preparations take?"

Charles thought for a moment and concluded, "At the earliest, two days."

Since Stryker was able to capture so many mutants, their strength shouldn't be underestimated. Moreover, they had likely set traps waiting for them, so they couldn't act rashly.

"Then two days. I'll inform you of the best time to infiltrate."

Saiki Kusuo cut off communication with Charles and looked down at Logan again. Seeing Logan's eyelids twitch slightly in his sleep, he followed Stryker out, satisfied.

Saiki Kusuo found nothing in the lab, so he planned to follow Stryker to his office to get some information. Unexpectedly, the other man led him to a place that looked like an entertainment venue.

Stryker ordered the guard to open the door and turned to him with an ambiguous smile.

"Since you've come to visit, and because of the experimental schedule, I haven't been able to give you the best hospitality. If Mr. Saiki doesn't mind, please rest here tonight. I think you'll be satisfied."

Knowing Stryker's intentions, Saiki Kusuo suddenly didn't want to go in and was looking for a suitable excuse to leave.

However, Stryker, who had ulterior motives, wouldn't let him leave so easily.

The door opened, and a seductive, fiery woman rose from the only sofa and leaned against the doorway, greeting Stryker.

"Good afternoon, Colonel." Her gaze swept over Saiki Kusuo and lingered.

"Who is this gentleman?"

"The investor of this base, Mr. Saiki Kusuo."

Stryker introduced him. A flicker of barely perceptible disgust flashed in the woman's eyes, who was the White Queen, before she broke into a practiced smile.

"Mr. Saiki, it's a pleasure to meet you."

"Take good care of Mr. Saiki, understand?"

Stryker patted the White Queen's shoulder meaningfully before stepping out. Receiving Stryker's look, the White Queen seductively ran her fingers through her curls and blew a breath near Saiki Kusuo's ear.

"So, please have a seat, sir."

The White Queen reached out to take Saiki Kusuo's arm, but Saiki Kusuo, feeling a chill run up his spine at the touch of the White Queen on his wrist, rebuked her sharply, "What do you think you're doing!"

The White Queen was stunned, seemingly unable to believe that her foolproof telepathy had failed.

And Saiki Kusuo was also astonished that his mind had almost been taken over. This was the first time Saiki Kusuo had encountered an opponent with comparable mental power. If he hadn't caught on quickly, she might have succeeded.

Could it be said that this woman was too harmless, causing him to be careless?

The White Queen also noticed Saiki Kusuo's uniqueness. Unable to probe his thoughts, she frowned and transformed into her diamond form, simultaneously intending to call out to Stryker, who had just left.

"If you want to continue living in this dark place, then go ahead and call Stryker over."

Noticing her actions, Saiki Kusuo stopped her.

Hearing this, the White Queen's eyes wavered for a moment, before she finally spoke.

"You're not the investor, are you?"

The White Queen stated definitively. Saiki Kusuo nodded without hiding anything.

"That's right, I'm from Xavier's School. Professor Charles sent me to rescue the mutants captured here." Saiki Kusuo brought up Xavier's School and Charles's name.

Charles's name still held considerable weight in New York. Sure enough, upon hearing Charles's name, the White Queen's hostility diminished slightly. But she didn't believe that Xavier's School sending just one young man could accomplish anything.

"I'm not alone. The main force will infiltrate here in two days. So, Miss Emma, are you interested in cooperating with us to destroy this place?"
