The Draconic System: Rise of To Ascendance

Chapter 40: Chapter 39: The First Move

The city lights flickered in the distance as Raizen crouched on the ledge of a high-rise, scanning the streets below. House Valen had gone quiet. Too quiet. That meant one of two things—either they were regrouping, or they were preparing to strike.

The system pulsed.

[New Alert: Unusual Movement Detected – House Valen Activity Increasing in District 7]

Raizen narrowed his eyes. District 7 was neutral ground, a place where rival factions maintained an uneasy peace. If House Valen was making a move there, it was deliberate.

His communicator buzzed. He tapped it, and Ayaka's voice came through. "You're gonna love this," she said. "House Valen just sent a convoy to District 7. High-security. Heavy guards. It's not just a routine visit."

Raizen smirked. "Sounds like an opportunity."

"I thought you might say that," Ayaka said. "They're moving something important. Could be an asset, could be intel. Either way, it's worth checking out."

He nodded to himself. "I'm on it."

The rooftops provided the perfect vantage point as Raizen tracked the convoy from above. Three armored transports, flanked by two heavily armed escorts. Their formation was tight—whoever or whatever was inside was valuable.

He activated his Stealth-Weave Suit, the fabric adapting to the shadows as he moved. His heart beat steadily as he assessed the situation.

The system chimed.

[Tactical Assessment: High-Risk Operation – Recommended Approach: Disruption & Extraction]

Raizen smirked. Risk was his specialty.

As the convoy entered a narrow street, Raizen saw his chance. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed a small EMP charge onto the lead vehicle.

A pulse of blue light flared as the engine died instantly, forcing the rest of the convoy to halt.

Shouts erupted. The guards fanned out, scanning the area. They didn't see him yet.

Raizen dropped from the rooftop, landing silently on the nearest guard. A swift elbow to the temple knocked him out cold. He snatched the fallen man's rifle, flipping it into his grip as he ducked behind cover.

More guards shouted, weapons raised. Too slow.

Raizen sprang forward, using the rifle's stock to slam another guard into the side of the transport.

The system pulsed again.

[Draconic Reflex Boost Activated – Combat Precision Increased]

The last two guards barely had time to react before Raizen was on them. A spinning kick sent one sprawling, while a sharp strike to the throat dropped the other.

The street fell silent.

Raizen turned toward the transport, curiosity sparking. Time to see what was so important.

He pried the door open and froze.

Inside, a bound and gagged woman with silver hair stared back at him—her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and fury.

The system chimed.

[Unknown Individual Identified – Genetic Signature Detected: High Compatibility with Draconic Lineage]

Raizen's heartbeat quickened. What the hell had he just stumbled into?
