Chapter 16
“Hikone, Hoshi…?”
Hikari, injured and cornered in the deep layers of the dungeon, was saved from an impending greatsword by Hoshi.
The comments exploded at his arrival.
“Wow!!!”
“Hikone Hoshi!?”
“Seriously!?”
“He’s here!”
“Thank you!!”
“Crying for real.”
“The real deal!”
“He’s the only one!”
But that was irrelevant. Hoshi, quietly angry and sad, addressed the monsters.
“The crime of ruining hamburgers is grave.”
His intense glare made the monsters tremble.
“Voo…!?”
On the other hand, the comments were split between Hikari’s and Hoshi’s viewers.
“Eh?”
“Hamburgers?”
“What does that mean?”
“Missed his dinner, lol.”
“His sister’s hamburgers.”
“Good for coming to help.”
The viewership skyrocketed, reaching 500,000. Viewers from Hoshi’s stream had flooded in.
“Why…?”
Hikari was still fixated on Hoshi’s back.
How did he know?
How did he get here?
She voiced the question she most wanted to ask.
“Why… did you come to help me?”
Hoshi, looking back at Hikari, casually replied.
“Because you commented on my stream.”
“…What?”
In the brutal world of explorers, self-preservation is key, especially in the deep layers of an S-rank dungeon. Hikari couldn’t fathom someone risking their life for such a trivial reason.
“But you only told me about the mana water!”
“That’s all it is.”
“No way…”
The comments reflected a different perspective.
“That’s Hoshi for you.”
“He’s different.”
“Not bothered by the deep layers.”
“Comments over deep layer monsters.”
That’s just how Hoshi is.
“…”
Hikari had to forcibly accept it. Then she remembered the recent event.
“But are you okay? You took a full hit from that greatsword!”
“Not at all fine.”
Hoshi grimaced, holding out his slightly blue little finger.
“This is definitely a sprain. Ouch.”
“…A sprain?”
An attack that could have split her in two, and all he got was a sprained finger? Hikari was baffled.
“What are you talking about…?”
“LOL”
“Took it with a fist and just sprained his finger.”
“S-rank monster’s sword.”
“Hoshi theater starts now.”
“That’s Hoshi quality.”
“Win confirmed performance.”
“But we can’t handle this alone!”
“It’s okay. Oh, look there.”
“—!?”
Worried, Hikari watched Hoshi point towards the entrance. Cries were heard.
“Rooar!”
“Roooon!”
Melon and Cotton Candy arrived.
“Melon!”
“Cotton Candy too!”
“They’re here!”
“Knew they’d be here.”
“We can win!”
“Relief!”
Hoshi scolded them for being late.
“Late, guys. I had to rush ahead.”
“Roo…”
“Woof…”
“That’s fastest Hoshi?”
“Faster than Fenrir?”
“What’s going on?”
“It’s all chaotic.”
“It’s a joke now.”
“Don’t worry, the fight’s over.”
“…Eh?”
(What is happening…?)
Hikari was overwhelmed by the unfolding ‘Hoshi Theater.’
Hoshi then finally turned to face the monsters.
Now it was time for retribution for the hamburgers.
“You seem the strongest.”
“Rooar…”
Hoshi targeted the Skeleton King that Hikari had battled.
“Hikone Hoshi! Its chest is glowing! It became stronger after that!”
“Hmm.”
“Hmm?”
“Hmm is out, lol.”
“Not interested, lol.”
“Doesn’t matter to him.”
“In Hoshi’s presence, all are powerless.”
Hoshi wasn’t uninterested, just reassuring Hikari.
“It’s okay, just watch.”
“…Okay.”
Hikari felt reassured by his demeanor.
“Melon, Cotton Candy.”
“Rooar.”
“Woof.”
“Take care of the others.”
With the two pets dealing with the surrounding monsters, Hoshi readied himself. Hikari, surprised, asked.
“Do you have a weapon?”
“Don’t need one!”
“Rooar!”
The Skeleton King swung its greatsword down at Hoshi, who didn’t move.
“Don’t want to sprain anything else.”
“Rooar!?”
Hoshi took the blow with his head.
“Are you crazy…!?”
The comments shared her disbelief.
“Why take it head-on, lol.”
“Is he provoking them?”
But Hoshi had a plan. He dodged into the Skeleton King’s guard as it swung down.
“Uoooh!”
When it seemed like Hoshi was about to act, he suddenly stepped forward with great force, resembling the stance of a soccer player ready to kick a corner.
“Sei!”
“Voa!?”
The Skeleton King, formed of bones, had its body structured like a human spine. A part of its bones flew off with a pop due to Hoshi’s kick, causing the Skeleton King’s height to decrease significantly, just like in the traditional Japanese game of Daruma Otoshi.
“Wow, this seems to work!”
“That’s absurd…”
Both Hikari and the comments were stunned.
“Daruma Otoshi, lol.”
“Playing with an S-rank monster, lol.”
“Hoshi’s having too much fun.”
Yes, it was exactly like Daruma Otoshi. Hoshi intended to defeat it using the same principle.
“Ta! Fun! Sei!”
“Vo! Voo! Voo!”
With every kick, the Skeleton King’s bones were blown away, rhythmically reducing its size. Hoshi was nonchalantly knocking away bones that even Hikari’s sacred sword couldn’t damage.
“What is he… lol.”
“Too funny.”
“Is this the right way to fight?”
“Who else but Hoshi could do this?”
“I’m dying, lol.”
“Hikari’s sword couldn’t even cut through them.”
The tense atmosphere of the stream turned into Hoshi’s showtime, displaying his absurd strength.
“Phew.”
“Rooar.”
“Woof.”
Hoshi, looking refreshed, wiped his sweat. Melon and Cotton Candy also approached him, having finished their own battles. The floor was now clean of monsters.
“These guys are too much.”
“Level beyond.”
“Deep layer monsters, right? Lol.”
“They just annihilated the Skeleton King, lol.”
“They finished off the others without us noticing.”
The viewer count reached 1 million. This legendary stream attracted a tremendous audience.
But then,
“Guuuu…”
A groaning sound echoed. Hikari was the first to notice.
“Hikone Hoshi!”
“Hm?”
“The Skeleton King!”
The Skeleton King, known for its strength and most importantly, its immortality. Its scattered bones were reassembling, trying to reform its body.
“Uh-oh, really?”
“What are you doing!? I told you to wait!”
“Eh?”
However, Hoshi seemed unperturbed. Then, a woman’s voice was heard.
“Hoshi-kun. You need to tie up trash properly.”
Green vines appeared out of nowhere, entangling the Skeleton King’s bones.
“Voah!? Vo-oo…”
The bones were bundled up, immobilizing the Skeleton King, which was then absorbed back into the dungeon.
“That’s better.”
The voice belonged to the Elf sister, Erika.
“Sister!”
“She’s here!”
“Mom’s here!”
“Erika!”
The comments were filled with ‘sister’ and ‘mom’, a trending nickname for her.
“Why are you here?”
“To bring you hamburgers!”
“Really?”
“Of course. Where Hoshi-kun is, is where I should be.”
“Ah, yes, yes.”
Though Hoshi seemed aloof, his happiness was evident.
“Blushing.”
“Cute.”
“Got to eat after all.”
“Happy.”
“No, not really!”
Hoshi tried to play it off. He seems to show his emotions most around his sister.
“Well, whatever.”
Hoshi then turned to Hikari again, extending his hand to help her up, as she seemed to have collapsed.
“Glad you’re okay.”
“…Thank you.”
“No problem. I got my hamburgers too.”
His obsession with hamburgers was amusing to Hikari, though she kept it to herself.
“Want to join us? It’ll cheer you up.”
“Eh?”
“Hey sister, give her some too.”
Erika reluctantly agreed, taking out a hamburger.
“For you, from Hoshi-kun. Not me.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“Uh, thanks…”
Hikari was handed the hamburger by Hoshi.
“How is it?”
“…!”
Chewing thoughtfully, Hikari felt comforted by the taste and the situation. Had Hoshi not arrived, she wouldn’t be here to eat this hamburger or continue showing her achievements to her mother, who might be watching somewhere.
Feeling safe now, a tear rolled down Hikari’s cheek.
“It’s delicious…!”
