Chapter 2
“No way…!” Nanami was in despair at the sight before her.
The creature glaring at them was a “Wyvern.” An S-rank monster, with no record of being defeated, recently found in the deepest layers of dungeons. This was a monster that everyone knew about, especially after a recent incident.
A top Japanese streaming party, including a famous streamer, had encountered this Wyvern. The result was a retreat. They bravely challenged it but had to withdraw before any casualties occurred. Their return with the message, “It’s impossible,” had become a big topic.
But the Wyvern wouldn’t wait. With its second roar, it swung its tail, menacingly close to Nanami.
In an instant, Hoshi’s arm stretched out from the side. Nanami was pushed away, and Hoshi was struck by the tail instead.
“No…!”
The floating camera had already switched on its “graphic depiction setting,” blurring part of the screen. Yet, viewers could easily imagine what was happening.
The comments were filled with pleas for them to escape.
But witnessing the scene, Nanami was paralyzed with fear and regret.
“I’m sorry… Hoshi,” she whispered. She regretted involving her childhood friend, whom she had wanted to see and show her current self, not expecting such a disaster. And she remembered another person, “Sorry, Mom…”
Her mother, who raised her single-handedly, inspired her to start dungeon streaming to ease her burden. But now, it seemed to be ending like this.
The Wyvern gathered flames in its mouth, preparing its signature “Fire Breath” that had forced the S-rank party to retreat.
“I’m sorry,” Nanami closed her eyes, bracing for the breath to be released. But then…
“Teiyaa!” – With a somewhat silly shout and a loud boom, something astonishing happened.
“…Eh!?”
The comments and Nanami were equally confused. A gentle voice asked, “Are you okay?”
“Eh?” Nanami looked up to see who it was.
The high-quality camera stopped blurring the scene, revealing the whole picture clearly.
“Are you hurt?” Hoshi asked, his face showing genuine concern.
Tears rolled down Nanami’s cheeks.
The viewers began to understand the situation, yet confusion remained.
“Did Hoshi do this?” “Yes, but…!” “Are you okay?”
Hoshi seemed genuinely concerned about Nanami.
“Was the footage good?”
“What?” The viewers and everyone else were puzzled by Hoshi’s words.
Hoshi continued, “I thought Nanamin would defeat that bird…”
“That’s impossible!”
“Is it?”
Their conversation seemed misaligned. Nanami asked in disbelief, “Can you really defeat it?”
“Probably, but…”
She grabbed Hoshi’s hand tightly. “Please!”
“If Nanamin says so!”
It wasn’t about whether it was possible or not. Belief was all they had now.
“Then, let’s give it our all, even though it’s my first dungeon outside my house!”
Hoshi bounced around with surprising ease, even in this situation.
The Wyvern attacked again, but Hoshi effortlessly dodged its tail.
“Oryaaa!” Hoshi jumped high, running along the dungeon walls, leaving Nanami in disbelief.
The scene was so surreal that the viewer count skyrocketed to 500,000.
Hoshi was faster than the Wyvern, dodging and striking back with seemingly silly remarks.
“What’s happening…?” Nanamin wondered.
The Wyvern, enraged, prepared another Fire Breath. “Hoshi! Run!”
But Hoshi didn’t move. “Try shooting,” he taunted.
The Wyvern’s fiercest roar yet was followed by a devastating Fire Breath.
“Run!” Nanami screamed, but Hoshi stood his ground.
“Umm.” Hoshi emerged unscathed from the blast, casually remarking, “Compared to my pets, this is nothing.”
The viewers were in disbelief, amused and amazed.
“Was the footage good enough?” Hoshi asked, readying his fist without any weapon.
“Take this!” – With an unimpressive shout, Hoshi struck the Wyvern. Its long neck twisted, and it collapsed to the ground, eventually disappearing into the dungeon.
The viewers were amused by Hoshi’s anticlimactic shout, “Toaah!” The comments went wild as the viewer count surpassed 500,000.
In a situation everyone thought impossible, an unknown F-rank adventurer had defeated the Wyvern. It was bound to become a sensation.
“Thank goodness…” Nanami collapsed, relieved.
But in a whisper too quiet for the mic to pick up, Hoshi muttered, “The pets at my house put up more of a fight.”
