Chapter 8: Chapter 8. I Am Your Wife.
A mourning hall was set up in the front yard, and two coffins were placed side by side.
Mrs. Lie and the twins, Lie Nan Hao and Lie Nan Huan knelt on the floor to keep vigil.
Mrs. Lie now looks calmer than when the tragedy at her residence began.
The twins obediently knelt beside their mother without crying loudly anymore. They only sobbed softly and occasionally their little bodies shook, looking very pitiful.
In her calmness, Mrs. Lie seemed to lose consciousness, her mind was blank, feeling empty. After Mrs. Lie returned to her senses, she saw, her son and daughter had fallen asleep on the floor still sobbing.
Mrs. Lie's heart ached when she witnessed this. She then called two servants who were also in the mourning hall on the outermost part to help guard it.
They were ordered by Madam Lie to take Nan Hao and Nan Huan to their rooms to rest.
Now only Mrs. Lie was left in the mourning hall. She stepped forward to approach her husband's coffin.
The moment her fingertips touched her husband's chest, it felt so cold that it made her cold heart freeze even more.
Mrs Lie comes from a military family so inevitably it has a lot of influence on her way of thinking even though her life is not full of drama and intrigue.
At first everything was fine. It happened suddenly, other than that there was no news at all.
Mrs. Lie understood after thinking deeply for a long time that His Majesty the Emperor could no longer tolerate the residence of the former Old Chancellor Lie's family who was clearly the main supporter of the future First Prince who was the strongest candidate for Crown Prince.
The Old Master must have known this, so the moment he decided to leave the residence with the Absolute Token, the Old Master had no plans to return.
Because this is the only way to protect his innocent offspring.
Otherwise, his entire family would be executed without exception.
Her husband and the Old Master were gone, her eldest son's legs were now crippled, leaving only her as a weak woman and her two young twin sons, so the Emperor could grant them pardon.
Mrs. Lie was reminded of her family's past, her father and two brothers went to war, none of them returned alive. They all died on the battlefield.
Her late husband was a close friend of her eldest sister.
Not long after, his mother died because of her deep sadness due to her deep sense of loss over the departure of the three men who supported her life, and his only sister-in-law, namely the wife of his eldest brother, had decided to remarry someone from a distant city.
By chance they didn't have any children. So there was no reason for her to refuse when a man came to propose to her.
In fact, in this day and age, it was very difficult for a widow to remarry as quickly as her sister-in-law, so Mrs. Lie was also happy about her marriage.
For a moment, he felt like he was back in time when the coffins were side by side in the mourning hall when the coffins of his father and two brothers were sent back from the border.
The sky was filled with white paper and coins. The stifled sobs around him that he could not forget, especially the feeling of pain that seemed to cut his heart to the deepest.
How ironic her life was... To think that her fate was the same as her own mother who lost her husband and both sons to be loyal to the Emperor like that.
The death of his father and two brothers can be said to be a human tragedy due to war, which we all know that no war brings benefits.
But what about her husband and father-in-law? Her father-in-law had devoted his entire life to protecting the Great Xia Dynasty, while her husband had also been on the battlefield before eventually taking over his father's duties when he retired during a time of world peace.
But what do they get now?
Was it right for her father-in-law and her husband to suffer like this because of His Majesty's suspicions?!
They had been accused of rebellion along with the First Prince, which he believed was all pure slander!
How could someone who devoted his life to his country dare to do something like that?
Mrs. Lie really hated this situation. She really hated the Emperor!
His hatred was so deep that he wished he could destroy Emperor Jiang with his own hands and burn him to ashes!
But how could he do all that? Even now he could not show his hatred, but knelt down and thanked for this gift of forgiveness!
It was almost midnight when Lie Pei Nan opened his eyes. For a moment he was silent, realizing where he was.
Still clearly in his memory what happened in the Ministry of Justice prison. He wanted to wake up immediately, remembering his father and grandfather whose fate he did not know at this time.
However, he realized that he couldn't feel his lower body let alone move it.
Before he could shout for the maid to help him, a girl's voice suddenly sounded beside him, "You finally woke up!" Shen Fei Ning said as she bowed slightly to him with a surprised expression on her face.
Her beautiful eyes sparkled.
Lie Pei Nan was slightly surprised and frowned and looked at the beautiful-eyed girl carefully, "Who are you?"
"Me?" she said while pointing at herself, then she continued her words, "Of course, I'm your wife. We got married a few days ago. Did you forget?" her tone sounded unhappy.
He had been guarding by his side all night when the physician told him that Lie Pei Nan would likely have a fever at night.
Lie Pei Nan frowned. He had seen Shen Yu Nie before at a noble's family event, she was not like this girl in front of him.
Uncle Zhao, who was also guarding outside the door, immediately entered the room after hearing a commotion inside the room.
"Young Master, Young Madam," he greeted after entering the room.
Shen Fei Ning turned her head when she saw that Uncle Zhao was already in her room, she then slid down from the bed and stood to the side.
Lie Pei Nan, who saw Uncle Zhao, immediately asked hurriedly, "Uncle, how are my father and grandfather..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he saw Uncle Zhao's sad expression and red eyes. There was clearly a trace of deep sadness on his face.
Lie Pei Nan was silent for a moment before continuing, "Are they... Alright?"
Lie Pei Nan's heart was very anxious and panicked as he waited for an answer from Uncle Zhao who was still silent.
Uncle Zhao finally let out his voice softly, "Young Master… My condolences…"
Hands!!!
How struck by lightning, Lie Pei Nan widened his eyes, stammering as he asked, "Uncle Zhao... Impossible... How..." He was unable to continue his words.
Lie Pei Nan closed his red eyes, his hands clenched tightly.
There was only silence in the room at this moment.
Shen Fei Ning too, stood silently to the side watching everything.
A few moments later, Lie Pei Nan opened his eyes again. Everything was calm again, no trace of panic and anxiety like a moment ago.
He muttered, "I'm paralyzed now..." It was either a question or a statement.
Uncle Zhao only answered by nodding his head and kept his head lowered.
Shen Fei Ning, who had always been insensitive to matters related to sad emotions, all she knew was, get angry, vent, done! She felt a little sorry for her handsome husband.
She saw that her handsome husband did not cry or make a fuss when he heard such news. He looked very calm, as if nothing had happened.
Shen Fei Ning, who was beside the bed, moved forward and held his tightly clenched and cold hand while saying, "You will get better, trust me."
The expression on Lie Pei Nan's face was still the same as before, he also didn't say anything, just quietly pulled his hand away and ordered Uncle Zhao, "Uncle, please call someone to arrange a room for him to rest."
Uncle Zhao understood who she meant it for. He immediately turned around and walked out quickly after replying, "Okay."
Shen Fei Ning wanted to say that this was also her room, but after thinking about it, it didn't matter if she gave in, she was in pain and sad right now. 'Maybe she's embarrassed to cry in front of me!'
Uncle Zhao came shortly after with a servant and Shen Fei Ning obediently followed the servant
