The Ghost in the Dark Night: The Ultimate Revenge Strategy

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The Comical Little Assistant

Sebastian Gray sat in front of the computer, studying the materials carefully, trying to find some clues from them. Lily White, on the other hand, stood blankly in front of the coffee machine, looking puzzled, and muttering in a low voice, "Huh? Why is this coffee different from the one at my home?"

However, soon, her "wise" eyes rolled around. She reached out and grabbed a handful of coffee beans, then filled a cup with boiling water and directly threw the beans into it. She casually stirred it a few times with a spoon, and then picked up a piece of sugar from the side and threw it in. Only then did she nod in satisfaction, feeling quite proud.

She thought she was very clever and had learned to draw inferences about other cases from one instance on her first day at work.

Finally, she walked a few steps to Sebastian's side and placed the cup on the table. "Here, drink it."

Sebastian didn't even lift his head. His gaze was fixed on the computer. He gently picked up the cup with one hand, blew on it near his mouth, and then took a small sip.

The next second, he looked down at the cup. There were many small beans floating in it, and his mouth twitched instantly.

Then, he turned his head woodenly and looked at Lily, who was waiting to be praised. "Don't you know that coffee beans need to be ground into powder before they can be brewed?"

Lily blinked her big eyes like those of Carzola and asked uncertainly, "Is it not okay to brew it like this?"

Taking a deep breath, Sebastian forcibly suppressed his emotions and put on an ugly smile.

"Come on, I'll demonstrate it to you. First, you should put the coffee beans into..."

A moment later, Sebastian asked, "Do you know how to do it now?"

"Yeah, I got it!" Lily said with great certainty.

"Very good! You can practice. I'm going to talk to the captain about something."

After leaving the office, Sebastian went to James Morrison's office.

"James, I suddenly thought of a question."

"What question?"

"John Wilson died at night, and that night, we had the nearby area under our control. So, how did the 'Ghost' confirm that John Wilson was dead at that time?"

As soon as he said this, James, who had been busy, paused for a moment and immediately understood what Sebastian meant.

"You mean..."

"I suspect that the 'Ghost' was near the villa at that time, at least in a place where he could see the villa. Also, take David Smith for example. The 'Ghost' guided him to escape from home and avoid us. He should have been nearby. Otherwise, does he have X-ray vision and can know the situation at all times?"

James slapped the table. "That is to say, on the night John Wilson died and the night David Smith escaped, if someone appeared at both places at the same time. Then, he is very likely to be the 'Ghost'?"

Sebastian nodded. "That's right. However, the investigation won't be easy. Firstly, it was night, and the images captured by the surveillance cameras won't be very clear. Secondly, if the 'Ghost' deliberately avoided the surveillance cameras, there's nothing we can do."

"I don't believe he's a god and can think of everything!"

After saying that, James ignored Sebastian and strode out of the office to send people to conduct the investigation.

Seeing how enthusiastic James was, Sebastian shrugged his shoulders. In fact, he wasn't optimistic about this clue and was just giving it a try. Since James was so enthusiastic, it wasn't appropriate to point out the problem, so as not to dampen his enthusiasm.

Having nothing else to do, Sebastian was going to return to the office to continue looking for clues. However, as soon as he reached the door, he heard a commotion inside, along with shouts and cries.

"Ah! It won't explode, will it? Look, there are sparks! What should we do? What should we do?"

Seeing this, Sebastian rushed in a few steps. He saw Lily standing there with a panicked expression, at a loss. Next to her, a civilian staff member was reaching out to unplug the power plug.

Over by the coffee machine, the blender was sparking, coffee powder was everywhere, and the office desk was in a mess.

There was no need for an explanation. Sebastian could guess what had happened at a glance.

The civilian staff member unplugged the power plug, and the crisis was averted. When he saw Sebastian, he immediately came forward.

"Consultant, that..."

"This has nothing to do with you. You can go and get back to your work. Thanks."

After the person left, Sebastian stared at Lily with a sullen face and didn't say a word.

"Woohoo~ I didn't mean to. When I was practicing just now, I accidentally dropped the key into the blender, and then, this happened." Lily was very aggrieved and her eyes were filled with tears.

Sebastian, who had been furious just now, looked into those clear eyes. Somehow, his anger vanished instantly, and he couldn't even bring himself to get angry.

"Sigh! I mean, my dear, can you focus when you do things?"

Letting out a long sigh, Sebastian could only speak gently.

"Okay, I know I was wrong. I won't do it again next time." Lily sniffled and promised.

Sebastian waved his hand in resignation. "All right, clean this up. Remember, without my instructions, don't do anything else. Just stay put."

"Okay."

Since he couldn't stay in his office for the time being, Sebastian went to Goodman David's place to discuss the psychological profile of the "Ghost" with him.

In his opinion, it was more appropriate to take two approaches. One was to follow the regular procedures to solve the case. The other was to follow the psychological profile to find the location, sort out the characteristics of the "Ghost," and find the person who matched them.

By the time he came back from Goodman's place, it was already seven o'clock in the afternoon, time to get off work.

When he returned to the office, he saw Lily lying on the sofa, sound asleep, drooling and mumbling something incomprehensible in her dreams.

"Clap, clap, clap!"

Sebastian clapped his hands a few times.

Suddenly, Lily woke up with a start. "I wasn't sleeping! I wasn't sleeping!"

Sebastian rolled his eyes and picked up his briefcase on his own. "It's time to get off work."

"Okay, okay." Lily nodded stupidly, picked up her things, and followed behind Sebastian as they left the office together.

On the way, when they passed by the office area, they heard someone chatting inside.

"Do you know that woman who joined today?"

"Yeah, I know. What about it?"

"I heard that she's a junior college graduate. Also, I heard from the next department that as soon as she came today, she messed up the consultant's office. I don't know how she was recruited with such capabilities."

"There must be some connections behind her. We can't compare. Unlike us, we worked so hard to get in and we're still doing the hardest work. And for some people, no matter how incompetent they are, if they're born in a good family, they can have everything."

The office in the unit was like this. Information spread quickly, and all kinds of rumors were everywhere. It could be called a gathering place for gossip.

After leaving the police station, Sebastian realized that Lily's eyes were red and she was crying silently. It seemed that she had also heard what was said inside.

Regarding this, Sebastian smiled. "Being born in a good family is an advantage after all. Let others talk if they want to. Besides, in the police station, I'm the one with the most connections. Compared to me, who do you think you are?"

Hearing this, Lily stopped crying and laughed. "That's true!"

"All right, go home! Oh, by the way, be more careful when you do things in the future. Don't blow up my office. Otherwise, even if I sell you, it won't be enough to cover the damages."

"I didn't do it on purpose."
