The Golem Mage
Chapter 440: The Undead knights (1).
While the skeletal knight had begun to cause significant trouble on the battlefield, the bone knight on the other hand seemed to be of a more patient kind.
As It advanced toward Pale and the rest of Lucas's command team with deliberate, and slow steps.
Trailing behind him were fourteen skeletons clad in bone armor also, wielding bone swords as they marched in unison.
His gaze was intently fixed on Pale, making it evident that Pale was the sole reason for the it's summoning, and his primary mission was to eliminate Pale.
Alec realized that the Lich had been attempting to restrain all the higher powers he dispatched, yet he still harboured hope that they could prevail in their respective duels.
The moment the fifteen skeletons rose from the ground to join him, the Bone knight charged toward Pale with reckless abandon.
As his summoned skeletons formed a barrier, preventing Agnes and the rest of the team from interfering with the duel.
As the bone knight swung his great sword, Pale leaped backward off his horse, narrowly avoiding the blade that cleaved the steed in two.
The Bone knight then lunged at Pale, aiming to knock him back with a shoulder jab, however, Pale had managed to conjure an ice shield in time, softening the impact as he slid across the ground.
Suddenly, Beatrice's spider puppet emerged, as one of its long wooden legs aiming to pierce the bone knight's body from behind.
But the knight's spine scattered and reformed into a round bone shield, deflecting the puppet's strike. The bone knight swung its great sword backward in an attempt to hit the puppet, but its blade met another leg of the wooden puppet instead.
[> Mid-Tier Spell – Bone Prison <]
The Bone Knight drove his heel into the ground, channelling his mana into the earth, as Monstrous long bones erupted from the soil, ensnaring the spider puppet within a skeletal cage.
With a renewed burst of speed, he charged toward Pale, his primary objective clearly is to eliminate his target, which was Pale so he was not interested in entangling with another Tier 4 mage, his focus narrowed, intent on fulfilling his mission.
Perched atop the wooden puppet, Beatrice had her eyes closed through out the mission, as she was controlling both puppet at once, but the entrapment of her puppet spider had forced her eyes open. Swiftly, she formed hand signs and directed her mana into strings that moved toward the Bone Knight in a bid to control him.
The instant the strings latched onto the Bone Knight's joints from behind, he stopped for a second, only for him to unleash a spell to engulf himself in grey flames moments later.
Beatrice quickly severed the mana string connection hastily to avoid the encroaching flames that threatened to harm her.
Frustrated by her inability to control the Bone knight, Beatrice could only watch as the Bone Knight turned his wrathful gaze upon her.
However, Pale seized the moment to advance, placing both of his hand directly upon the knight's head.
[> Mid-Tier Spell – Chilling Touch <]
Pale invoked his spell, his touch instantly freezing the Bone Knight from the head down.
His hands, now a crystalline white, shattered the knight's skull with ease after it had been frozen.
As the knight crumbled to its knees, Pale smirked, striding past the decapitated foe to confront Agnes and her companions, eager to flaunt his victory.
But then, he noticed something amiss, despite his certainty that he had obliterated the Bone Knight's, it's spell lingered.
The Bone Prison remained intact, as the wooden puppet was nearly close to breaking free, and the skeletons he had summoned were still entangling Agnes and her team in battle.
As he turned to face the Bone Knight, he noticed the great sword dangerously close to his head and swiftly ducked nervously as the Great sword slightly missed him.
However, the Bone Knight allowed the sword to fly and launched a fist straight toward Pale.
In response, Pale attempted to use the Chilling Touch spell once more, extending his palm to meet the Bone Knight's punch, as his hand turning crystal white again.
At the last moment, just as their hands were about to collide, Pale saw the Bone Knight's fist transform, developing a long blade akin to Wolverine's in X-Men, except this one was a single, more durable bone blade.
The blade pierced right through Pale's hand coming out from the other side, causing him to cry out in pain, while the Bone Knight swiftly sent another punch toward Pale's heart region.
However, just before the punch could connect, a visible mana string dragged the Bone Knight's left hand backward, disrupting his attempt to strike Pale once more.
The Bone Knight turned to gaze at the Lich, as it's eyes seems to be complaining about Beatrice who seems hell bent on disrupting his mission, while Pale used his uninjured hand to cast another spell.
[> Low-Tier Spell – Ice Explosion <]
As his uninjured hand approached the Bone Knight, a small ice ball formed, it was a concentrated energy of freezing particles that exploded upon contact with the Bone Knight, releasing a shockwave of freezing air.
The force of the attack blasted Pale away, causing him to slam into a destroyed building, while the Bone Knight became frozen inside a glacier.
Even within the glacier, the Bone Knight continued to stare at the Lich, as Pale struggled to his feet amidst the debris of destroyed bricks, his right hand still impaled.
The explosion had flung him, and it appeared that the Bone Knight had lost his right hand in the process. Pale slowly removed the Bone Knight's hand from his own, groaning as he did so.
The skeletons fighting the group seemed to lose their powers, falling back to the ground, as the Bone Knight was imprisoned by the ice glaciers.
While Pale was preoccupied with his pain, Knight followed the Bone Knight's gaze to the Lich and realized that the Lich was about to strike his staff on the ground again.
So he decided to take matters into his own hands, since that the Lich was alone.
Knight opened a shadow travel portal underneath him and leaped in, Agnes, who had just turned back, witnessed Knight jumping into the shadow portal and had a sinking feeling as she also shifted her gaze to the Lich.
She saw knight emerge from the ground beneath him and grab hold of the staff that was meant to strike the ground.
"No way!" Agnes exclaimed, nearly having an heart attack as she watched Knight push himself out from the shadow travel portal below and thrust one of his daggers upward in an attempt to strike the Lich's head.
But before his dagger could get close, a hand stretched out from behind the Lich's robes, an 8-inch claw effectively blocking the dagger.
It was then that Knight realized that there was another Tier 4 monster behind the Lich.
He had only considered attacking the Lich, assuming that those who followed the sorceress path were weak in hand-to-hand combat.
However, he now understood that not only had he failed in his attempt, but he had also learned that trying to take down the Lich meant facing whatever was protecting it.
Realizing that his assassination plans had failed, Knight prioritized escape.
As he swiftly cast another shadow travel and attempted to jump into the black portal, but the creature with the long claws finally revealed itself, sending out a bolt of dark energy that destroyed the shadows travel portal, Knight tried opening other portals but still the same thing occurred.
Knight paled as he realized he was trapped, the escape he had relied on and was most proud of had being countered, and now, he truly wished he had listened to Agnes' advice to stay away from the Lich.
