Chapter 17: The Dragons
As the MC strolled through the town, his sharp eyes observed the lively streets—the merchants haggling, children running, and the scent of roasted meat filling the air. But his mind was elsewhere.
"Lara, what's the best way to get Veldora on my side?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, yet his presence exuded dominance.
Lara responded without hesitation, "Right now, Veldora is being beaten down by his sister, Velgrynd. If you step in and help him escape, that might be enough to gain his trust. If he sees you as an ally, rather than an enemy, he might be willing to listen to you."
The MC raised an eyebrow. "Veldora, the infamous Storm Dragon, is getting beaten up? And he actually needs help running away?"
Lara chuckled. "Yes. Despite his overwhelming strength, Velgrynd completely outmatches him. Unlike him, she's disciplined, and she knows how to properly use her power. Veldora, on the other hand, fights recklessly and without strategy, which is why she dominates him in battle every time they clash."
The MC smirked. "So, if I step in at the right time, I can not only impress him but also make him owe me a favor?"
"Exactly," Lara confirmed. "Veldora is simple-minded in some ways. If you help him escape and show him you're on his side, he'll likely see you as a friend. And if you offer him a way to have fun without getting crushed by his sister, he'll be even more inclined to follow you."
The MC chuckled. "So, instead of fighting him head-on, I just need to play the role of his savior. That's easier than I expected."
Lara continued, "However, don't underestimate him. He may be reckless, but he's still a True Dragon. If he ever decides you're trying to manipulate him, he'll turn on you in an instant."
The MC smirked, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "I wouldn't dream of manipulating him. I'll just… give him the best option and let him choose for himself."
Lara's voice held a note of satisfaction. "Then it's time. Head to the Jura Forest—your dragon awaits."
Without another word, the MC vanished into the shadows, making his way toward the battlefield where an angry dragon was being "educated" by his sister.
As the MC arrived in the Jura Forest, he concealed himself within the darkness, his presence blending seamlessly with the shadows. From his hidden vantage point, his eyes locked onto a colossal battlefield—a violent clash between two enormous dragons that shook the very land beneath them. Towering trees cracked and fell like twigs, the sky rumbled with the force of their clashes, and the air itself seemed to ripple from the sheer intensity of their battle.
Veldora, the Storm Dragon, was massive—a towering creature covered in dark blue scales that shimmered with violent energy. His golden eyes burned with frustration as he lunged at his opponent with reckless abandon. But it was clear that he was losing—badly.
Velgrynd, the Flame Dragon, his older sister, was his superior in every way. Her crimson scales gleamed under the sunlight, her movements precise, disciplined, and controlled. Every time Veldora tried to land a hit, she countered effortlessly, dodging, blocking, and retaliating with devastating force.
A fiery explosion erupted as Velgrynd struck her brother, sending Veldora crashing into the ground, creating a deep crater. The impact shook the earth, sending shockwaves across the forest. Veldora groaned, struggling to get back up, but Velgrynd gave him no time to recover.
"You're too reckless, Veldora!" Velgrynd scolded, her voice sharp. "You rely too much on brute force! If you don't start thinking in battle, you'll never defeat anyone truly strong!"
Veldora growled in frustration. "Tch! Who cares about strategy? Strength is all that matters!"
Velgrynd let out an exasperated sigh. "That's exactly why I have to keep beating sense into you!" She raised her claws, preparing to strike again.
The MC, still watching from the shadows, smirked. "So this is the so-called fearsome Storm Dragon? He's getting scolded like a child."
"Now is your chance," Lara's voice echoed in his mind. "Use your Ultimate Skill—Sovereign of Shadows—to engulf Veldora in darkness and pull him into your domain. Tell him not to resist, that you're here to help him escape. He'll understand, and Velgrynd won't be able to react in time."
The MC's smirk widened. "A clean extraction, huh? Sounds like my kind of move."
Without hesitation, he activated Sovereign of Shadows. The world around him darkened as an abyssal force extended from his being. Black tendrils of living shadow slithered across the battlefield, silent as death itself.
As Velgrynd rushed in for another attack, the shadows suddenly erupted from beneath Veldora, wrapping around him like a cocoon.
"What the—?!" Velgrynd's eyes widened in surprise as she instinctively halted her attack.
Within the swirling darkness, Veldora flailed for a moment before hearing a calm voice inside his mind.
"Don't resist. I'm here to help you escape."
Veldora froze, his instincts warning him of an unknown force, but something about the voice was… oddly reassuring.
"Who—?" He barely had time to think before the shadows completely swallowed him.
In an instant, Veldora vanished.
Velgrynd's eyes darted around, scanning the battlefield. "Where did he—?!"
But the only thing left in Veldora's place was an empty crater and the lingering tendrils of unnatural darkness. The Storm Dragon was gone.
Velgrynd narrowed her eyes, her keen senses scanning for any trace of her missing brother. "Whoever did this… show yourself!" she growled, flames crackling around her body.
But there was no response. The shadows had already faded, leaving only silence behind.
Meanwhile, deep within the MC's Shadow Domain, Veldora hovered in a void-like space of infinite darkness. His body tensed, prepared for a fight, but then he heard that same voice again—clear and composed.
"Relax, Storm Dragon. You're safe now."
Veldora turned, finally laying eyes on the MC. His golden eyes studied him warily.
"Who the hell are you?" he demanded, though not in a hostile tone—more curious than anything.
The MC smiled, his figure barely illuminated in the endless void.
"Just someone who thought you could use a little help."
