The Hagrid's son

Chapter 98: Wedding

The news that Umbridge had "taken" her position didn't sit well with Tonks, and Barnaby had to calm her down. Fortunately, this time she didn't break his hip again...

The limits of a Metamorphmagus were discovered and learned the last time.

And with several preventive measures taken in advance, Barnaby decided to spend the summer as a vacation with Tonks, since the return of Voldemort could very well make this the last one for a long time.

It was great.

Given the location, the problems of the wizarding world seemed far away, and the occasional visits from the Scamanders (usually with Tina dragging Newt) for barbecues added a touch of variety.

Correspondence with his father informed him that things weren't going great with the giants, but at least the worst outcome had been avoided.

Andromeda and Ted were also frequent visitors, though sometimes it was Barnaby and Tonks who went to their house for dinner. Unfortunately, despite several attempts, they couldn't convince them to move back with them and only managed to get Barnaby to improve the defenses of their home.

He didn't forget to visit Ollivander and warn him to have a Plan B in case of necessity, something the old wizard assured him he had covered for decades.

But if he had to point out the most surprising thing that happened, it was when he heard of Harry's expulsion from Hogwarts. Or almost expulsion, to be more accurate, as Mr. Weasley and Dumbledore's intervention resulted in the dismissal of all charges.

Speaking of the Weasleys, Barnaby tried to visit them a few times but was turned down for various reasons. While they all seemed reasonable, something felt fishy.

It almost seemed like they were avoiding him!

Very puzzling.

Just before the next school year began, Tina managed to find a job for Tonks using her connections as a combat wizard trainer, and Barnaby was able to intercept his father to bring the two families together and set a date for the wedding.

Although Barnaby wanted something quite spectacular while inviting Ollivander, the Hogwarts staff, Filch, and other friends, Tonks and her parents preferred something more intimate and private. Especially given the current times.

Barnaby agreed. They could always have a second wedding later if they felt like it, right?

So, the wedding ceremony took place on a full moon night, under the stars, with a small circular stone platform transformed for the occasion.

On Tonks' side, her mother Andromeda and her father Ted were trying to hold back tears of emotion for the event in which their little girl would finally become a woman.

On Barnaby's side, Hagrid was blowing his nose into a huge handkerchief, with Fang sprawled on the grass at his feet, and Calcifer acting as the light source at the altar.

Using a fire demon to light a wedding... did it matter?

As for Sanshi, she was chosen to serve as the maid of honor!

The protagonists of this event decided to wear the same clothes they had worn during the Yule Ball of the Triwizard Tournament. Not that they had other options; these were already their finest outfits...

Still, Barnaby was left breathless at the sight of Tonks, who looked especially radiant that night under the moonlight that caressed her rosy skin, while Sanshi helped carry the train of her dress.

"I knew this day would come, but even so, it seems like it arrived too fast," sighed Ted, watching as his daughter began a new chapter in her life.

Why did he suddenly feel so old?

"And to think there was a time she worried she'd never find a good man," said Andromeda, wiping away a tear with a silk handkerchief. "How long do you think it'll take before we have grandchildren?"

"I'm wondering that myself," Hagrid expressed beside her, already fantasizing about playing with his grandchildren and teaching them how to raise a three-headed dog.

"Mum!" Tonks glared at her mother.

"Dad!" Barnaby gave his father a warning look.

Even if they were all family now...

At least whisper when you talk about these things!

It's still too early!

"We're sorry," they apologized with a smile on their faces.

Clearly, they didn't feel sorry at all. Rather...

Were they teasing them?

During the wedding?

It almost seemed rehearsed!

Though it helped calm their nerves, this was...

Oh, actually, doing something like this seemed like a tradition?

Taking a deep breath, the atmosphere lightened, and Barnaby and Tonks shared a tender kiss, which was applauded by everyone. As they moved on to the wedding dinner, a menu prepared by Sanshi with Calcifer's help, Barnaby realized a bit too late that someone was missing.

"Calcifer, didn't your wife, the flame atronach, manage to come?"

The fire demon, who was happily enjoying dragon egg shells, froze at those words, as if struck by lightning.

"Ah!" he exclaimed, eyes wide open, showing a bit of growing fear. "I forgot to tell her!"

...

Everyone held a moment of silence for Calcifer.
