The Innkeeper

Chapter 1433: Danger analysis I

It was a harmless question, though everyone could tell that one of the reasons Bagheera wanted to lead them away was because he did not want to have a private conversation with Mira in front of them.

Of course, Lex almost immediately also sensed that there was more to the situation than appeared at a glance. His vast experience in landing in the most troublesome situation possible led him to immediately conclude that Mira's background was not as simple as it appeared, and that the Red Heart clan she originated from was deeply involved with the bank on numerous levels.

If that were the case, then the tiger he had just danced with also likely had a deep background, and chances were that he had just interfered in a courting process that had the secret approval of two heavy weight clans, and ruined some plans long set in motion. Of course, considering Lex's usual bad luck, he would also assume that Bagheera's background was especially controversial, resulting in a classic Romeo and Juliet situation.

But, considering the fact that he was supposed to be having good luck due to his immense positive Karma, he concluded that the situation was possibly different.

That either meant that the other tiger's background wasn't significant, but considering the fact that he had the courage to cause a fight in the bank, that was unlikely. The only other possible solution was that Bagheera's background was not controversial, but instead very powerful, but he had to keep it secret for some reason.

Almost all of this was entirely conjecture, but even a baseless conjecture, when had by an immortal, was more than likely correct. It was because of how deeply involved they were with laws, and the feedback they got from their corresponding laws and specialities. After all, not everyone was a maniac like Lex trying to manipulate whatever laws he wished - most Earth immortals focused only on a few specific laws to increase their mastery over them.

Lex was able to discern all this based on his own experiences, but he wasn't the only one with unique experiences.

Velma immediately sensed that Mira's past was messy and filled with an unspeakable pain, which is why what she sought now was not strength or background, but sincerity and loyalty. She had enough self confidence to face even societal pressure as long as she thought the partner was worth it, disregarding societal norms and stereotypes by even affiliating with someone from a different feline subrace. Stay tuned to empire

Gerard, as the only one in the group who was in a relationship, had his own unique insights into the matter, and was able to tell that the true obstacles these two faced were not the external ones, but their own, internal doubts which were causing them to hesitate from going all out.

All three of them had their unique insight into the situation, but neither of them spoke on such matters anymore. Interfering too much was not a good thing, and as Lex had just said, it was good to know when to stop.

"If it would not be too much trouble, then it would be great if you could lead us," said Lex. "Of course, if you have some matters to attend to first, we can wait a bit."

"Not at all! The bank's duties must be done first and foremost!" Bagheera exclaimed righteously.

The group bade Mira farewell, and followed Bagheera as he led them on their way.

This branch of the bank was not too big, considering it was a branch in a Major realm. This branch, meaning the specific building they were in, was approximately the size of Texas from back on Earth.

For those who were unfamiliar with the size of Texas, it was approximately 863,007 Danny Devito's wide, and 844,878 Danny DeVito's long.

Naturally, a branch that large fit a lot of things in it, though Lex felt confused. It was a bank. They were supposed to store money, or well maybe in this case spiritual stones. Even so, with the availability of spatial rings, did they need a branch this large? So he asked Bagheera.

"The services the bank provides are a lot more than you expect," Bagheera said. "It is simultaneously impossible to conceive of all the businesses that the bank is involved in, and at the same time very easy. Just imagine anything and everything legal, as determined by the Universal Mandate, and has the possibility for profit, and the Bank will be involved in it."

"Universal Mandate? What's that?" Lex asked, suddenly feeling like he was about to touch upon something far beyond him, yet at the same time his instincts didn't react. Was there something wrong? The answer was quickly forthcoming.

"The Universal Mandate is a stele in the Primary realm which dictates the few laws that all beings in the universe must abide by," Bagheera answered. "Don't ask me what happens if someone breaks the laws, for I've never even heard of such a situation. To begin with, someone like me doesn't even know what these laws are. I also have no idea where the Mandate came from, and who decided on the rules. All I know is that in every mission statement the bank has ever published, they emphasise that they strictly adhere to the Universal Mandate while conducting business."

So the reason why Lex didn't get any warnings, as if he was about to learn some information he was not yet ready for, was because he didn't learn anything meaningful at all. At most, he now knew that somewhere in the universe there existed a set of rules that dictated the universal right or wrong.

But considering that Sanguis Pluvia had not been condemned for participating in slavery, illegal cloning, realm-wide terrorism, and countless other sins, he doubted that his sense of morality was the same as that which governed the universe as a whole. Perhaps, for beings who looked down on the whole universe, with all it's numerous realms, Major and Minor, things such as murder and genocide were entirely inconsequential, and instead there were other things that concerned them.
