Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Snape’s Tears, Charlie Strikes Again

Voldemort was dead.

Killed by a baby's rebounding Killing Curse.

If word got out, no one in the wizarding world would believe it.

But Charlie knew.

This was not a true, final death.

Given time, Voldemort would surely return.

As long as the plot didn't deviate…

Fortunately, Voldemort had been careless.

With the added surprise of Charlie's dashing sneak attack, it was a success.

Otherwise, who knew what kind of disaster would have unfolded?

Charlie lowered his wand.

At this moment, he had reverted to the form of a baby.

His younger brother, Harry, seemed to have sensed their predicament as well.

His cries grew louder.

He struggled to crawl toward Lily, wailing uncontrollably.

Charlie gazed at the scene before him, feeling somewhat helpless.

Then, using the last of his magic, he cast the Soul Redemption spell he had previously comprehended.

In an instant

Charlie's consciousness entered an ethereal state.

Everything around him became tranquil and clear.

Faintly

Charlie could sense the presence of his parents.

Then, a wisp of light emerged from their bodies.

It transformed into an invisible stream of energy

Flowing directly into Charlie.

"It worked."

Charlie murmured in his heart.

He could feel that the spell had succeeded.

As for that sliver of his parents' souls, he would see if there was a way to restore them once he became strong enough.

This was the best he could do for now.

Harry was still crying.

He looked up at Charlie.

Charlie's expression was calm

A look that seemed out of place on a baby's face.

Strangely

Harry was not afraid to meet Charlie's gaze.

He simply gave him a silent glance.

Then, he lay down.

Perhaps he was exhausted from crying.

Or perhaps he had sensed the sorrow of their parents' passing.

Charlie closed his eyes and began meditating, slowly recovering his magic.

This crisis was finally over

He had survived.

And he had preserved a fragment of his parents' souls.

Exhaustion set in.

At an age when he should have been carefree,

He had shouldered burdens far beyond his years.

...

Time passed slowly.

Harry, worn out from crying, had fallen asleep.

Charlie, lying nearby, also had his eyes slightly closed.

Suddenly

The sound of a door opening echoed.

A man in black robes hurriedly rushed in.

Charlie's eyes opened slightly.

With just a sense, he immediately knew who it was.

Severus Snape.

His mother Lily's "good friend."

"My Lily, my Lily… I'm sorry, I'm sorry! It's all my fault! Ah!"

Snape suddenly fell to his knees, overwhelmed by grief.

He cradled Lily's lifeless body in his arms and wept bitterly.

"I was too late… I was too late…"

"Why? Why did this happen?"

"You promised me… You said you'd be safe… That he would spare you…"

"Why… Why is this the result?"

As expected.

Charlie sighed inwardly.

Snape was still hopelessly devoted.

But if not for the fickleness of people like him,

James and Lily might not have met such a tragic end.

"Damn it… Damn it! Why did this happen?"

"Where is Voldemort? Where did he go? Come out! You hurt Lily, and I'll make you pay!"

"Come out!"

He had lost it.

Charlie shook his head.

Dear Uncle Snape, shouldn't you be thinking about what to do with me and my unfortunate little brother right now?

Stop losing your mind.

Suddenly

Snape's eyes grew cold.

His gaze locked onto Harry, who lay beside Lily.

Those eyes

The exact same as Lily's, yet the face was unmistakably James Potter's.

"It's you… If not for you, Lily wouldn't have died."

"She wouldn't have died… It's all because of you…"

"You…"

Snape's voice grew low, his expression dark and menacing.

Charlie, hearing this, stared at Snape, unblinking.

His chubby little hand tightened around his wand.

Not again.

My dear Uncle Snape,

Your thoughts are getting dangerously extreme.

You're losing it, my guy.

Don't take your anger out on my brother.

If you have a problem, take it up with me

Actually, never mind.

Great.

He really was going to blame it all on Harry.

Snape suddenly grabbed Harry by the collar, lifting him up.

"Waaah!"

Harry burst into terrified cries.

Snape's cold, twisted expression

Honestly, it was terrifying.

Muttering an incantation under his breath,

Snape looked utterly consumed by madness.

Driven insane by love?

Charlie had seen enough.

He raised his wand without hesitation.

A blast of raw magic struck Snape head-on,

Sending him stumbling back several steps.

Harry tumbled to the ground.

The fall was rough.

His cries grew even louder.

"Who's there?!"

That attack seemed to snap Snape out of his trance.

The frenzy in his eyes slowly faded.

He stared at his own hands, remorse washing over him.

What had he just done?

Why had he taken his anger out on a baby?

It was his own fault.

He had been too late.

He had failed to protect Lily.

And yet, he had nearly unleashed his fury on her child.

The child with Lily's eyes.

Regret gnawed at him.

But then

As if remembering something,

Snape's gaze shot toward Charlie.

That cold, piercing stare

As if trying to see through him.

Charlie's chubby, baby-fat cheeks twitched.

He forced out what he hoped was a friendly smile.

But to Snape, it was anything but.

Something about this kid

This son of Lily's

It felt like he was mocking him.

It had been him.

He was the one who attacked.

If Snape hadn't seen it himself, he never would have believed it.

A baby.

Wielding a wand.

And striking him down with sheer magical force.

Magic so powerful it had sent him reeling.

And yet

If not for that, he wouldn't have come to his senses.

He had nearly made an unforgivable mistake.

Lily's child… was anything but ordinary.

With that thought, Snape slowly stepped toward Charlie.
