Chapter 1490: Two Favors
"From my point of view, I see no consequence heading my way."
It was the undeniable and sole truth that Great Elder Rosa could see with her own two eyes.
She put it out there as clearly as water.
For a fleeting moment after the words, the air became thicker, and the silence louder.
Viora could hear her own nervous heart pounding inside her chest as the situation escalated.
Had it been the Saintess of Purity on Rex's shoes, Viora was certain that she wouldn't not let this pass—the only answer was to teach Great Elder Rosa a lesson that she would not forget, one that would make her more respectful.
Though Rex was only an Immortal Spirit, Viora didn't take him lightly.
She truly believed that Rex could take Great Elder Rosa down if he wanted to.
A belief that didn't waver at all despite the situation.
As such the power and talent of a Candidate for Invincibility.
Rex glanced down at the serrated, root-weaved blade that was pressed against his throat.
He could feel its thorns poking his skin clearly.
If he made a sudden movement, there was no doubt the thorns would tear his throat apart.
Seeing no reaction from Rex—no fear, no panic, no nothing even with doom so close by, Great Elder Rosa squinted. And with a twitch of her expression, the monster behind Rex moved, raising its blade above its head, and hacked down powerfully.
Slash!
Crack!
Not even so much to hesitate, the monster sliced Rex's right arm along with the sofa cleanly.
Blood squirted out from his severed limb but the monster threw a rose flower.
It sucked every single drop of the blood with precision.
Not even a drop managed to hit the floor.
Only Rex's severed limb, drained entirely of blood hit the floor.
"Just like that," Great Elder Rosa said coldly. "That could've been your head on the floor"
Upon the sight of the limb, Viora's eyes flared open in shock, and then, she snapped.
Great Elder Rosa has gone too far, this was unacceptable.
"I do not approve of this, Great Elder Rosa," Her meek demeanor instantly changed into a fierce one, the advisor of the Aurelius Noble House part of her, surfaced. "We have been working together, for countless years—but it seemed you began to make a hobby out of pushing on my tolerance,"
Great Elder Rosa's eyes flickered but she kept her gaze fixed on Rex.
But it was clear that she was on the verge of turning away.
Hearing Viora's serious tone has that kind of effect on her.
"It's fine," Rex raised his remaining hand, gesturing towards Viora to stop.
"But this is unacceptable, you did nothing that crossed the line," She argued. "I must stop her,"
"I said it's fine," Rex repeated his words but this time, his voice was commanding.
Despite her reluctance, Viora stepped back and went to her original position again.
Once she backed away, Rex glanced at his severed arm and grabbed it from the floor.
He placed it back on its original spot and in mere seconds, the arm was attached back to his body.
Since there was no blood as proof of what Great Elder Rosa did, the slash earlier doesn't feel real.
As if it only happened in the mind.
"For us to work together, our pride must clash," Rex mumbled, placing his focus—back on Great Elder Rosa who now has her composed façade cracking. Then, he turned slightly to look at the monster behind him, "Your Soul Artifact must be a strong one. Added with the Rosemancer Echo, I understand why you're arrogant"
Upon hearing this, Great Elder Rosa frowned.
Even though the monster she summoned gave a clue—as to what kind of Echo she has, there are still a lot of Echoes that could have this kind of effect on her powers. For Rex to deduce what her Echo was as if it was eas—that surprised her greatly.
Knowing the Echo meant knowing the person's ability, and that was bad news for the exposed.
Not to mention, she was still utterly confused as to what his relationship with Viora was.
'Even my husband can't silence Viora up like this…' Great Elder Rosa thought.
It was clear that Rex was somebody to obtain Viora's respect but she couldn't tell his identity.
<Notice The Rosemancer Echo from the Destroyer of Nature's Long Lost Catacomb>
Immediately after she summoned this monster, Rex already scanned it with the System.
He didn't need to see its stats, he only wanted to know the Echo integrated into it.
Nodding his head with only his face and lips, Rex then focused back on Great Elder Rosa, "Since you're still under the impression that there will be no consequences from killing me, then I dare you to try it and see for yourself, great elder"
Being taunted like this, Great Elder Rosa became even more uncertain.
Beads of cold sweat began to form from her nervousness and now, she couldn't hide them anymore.
Clearly, she was stressed and uncertain of what to do.
"No…?" Rex tilted his head—seeing Great Elder Rosa still unmoving on her spot. "In that case, instead of seeing if there were consequences or not for killing me, why don't we look—at the brighter side? Like how useful I could be if you decided to grant me my favor,"
Great Elder Rosa didn't answer and Rex took this as a green light to continue.
Lifting up his hand, he channeled his life energy and summoned the Red Dawn of Kaiser.
Life energy swirled at Rex's fingertips, shifting from vibrant green to deep crimson as it surged into his fingernails. They sharpened and elongated into vicious red claws, now far deadlier than before. With his ascent to the Immortal Spirit rank, the transformation extended beyond his fingernails.
Now, his knuckles bore the same eerie red glow.
Even the bones in his hands seemed to dazzle with red light, amplified in raw power.
It was a spectacular sight, one that clearly showed that it wasn't a weak Soul Artifact.
But there's more.
Upon looking closely at Rex's Red Dawn of Kaiser, Great Elder Rosa's eyes widened and she sucked in a cold breath when she saw sparks of power that wasn't life energy. It was thicker, more dangerous, and also seemingly one with the Soul Artifact.
One look and Great Elder Rosa realized what it was—Law, it was the power of a Law.
'A SS-grade…? No, perhaps even higher!' She thought in surprise.
Someone who possessed an SS-grade Soul Artifact is one in a hundred million and the chances of those who possessed an SSS-grade Soul Artifact—is even higher. Even in the entire empire, there was only a handful who possessed an SSS-grade Soul Artifact.
Mainly, those of royalty and a couple of others, like the Royal Household, the Dukes, and other nobles.
For Rex to have this showed that his talent was immensely high.
Comparing Rex to the young generation, he might even be close to the Eight Eternals.
Perhaps, in the future, he could be compared to the Three Fated Conquerors.
Not the strongest and most promising of the empire, but the entire world.
Before Great Elder Rosa could fully comprehend what she was witnessing, a thin yellow orb of light—appeared behind Rex. It hovered above his head for a moment before moving in a graceful arc, tracing a circular path that gradually solidified with each passing second.
Soon, a humming yellow halo materialized—the Aegis of Moon Sentinel.
Another Soul Artifact was formed, and this one wasn't weaker than the previous one.
Great Elder Rosa's expression turned stiff—she came to realize that Rex does not only have one SSS-grade Soul Artifact but two instead. The chances of something like this were even slimmer, Rex might be another genius that was favored by the world.
However, Great Elder Rosa knew that this wasn't the case—Rex wasn't from this realm, after all.
"I'm sure you could use someone like me and I could use your house's influence," Rex stated.
Now that she was confronted with such an opportunity, her hostility faded.
Even though he came from the Mortal Realm, he has proven enough—that he has no bad intentions to this realm. Perhaps, Great Elder Rosa could strike a deal—and as he offered, use him in exchange for a small favor.
"What do you say, great elder?" Rex pressured further, giving no chance for her to contemplate.
Surprisingly enough, Great Elder Rosa's expression turned resolute.
"What's the favor you wanted?" She finally asked.
Rex smiled inwardly, this meant Great Elder Rosa accepted the deal and the two could progress as allies for the time being, "Two favors instead of one, I think it's only fair for me since you attacked me earlier. Are you burdened by that?"
Despite her unwillingness, she wasn't someone irrational.
It was her fault for being swayed by her emotions earlier so this was only fair.
Of course, this still depends on what favors Rex wanted.
"Speak," Great Elder Rosa demanded in annoyance.
"Alright, the first one is simple, I want your house to nominate me as your champion to the Nameless Dragon Arena tournament and back me up if the Duke questions my origin," Rex stated, his demand catching Great Elder Rosa off guard. "Pretty simple, right?"
"You want to marry Princess Davina?" Great Elder Rosa frowned.
She was troubled by this.
It wasn't fear that Rex would harm Princess Davina that troubled her—he couldn't, no matter what he tried. Rather, she was concerned because Rex told her he would only be here in this realm temporarily for about a month or so.
Marrying Princess Davina, on the other hand, suggested otherwise.
"I know what you're thinking but trust me, I don't care about her," Rex said firmly.
And from his serious expression, Great Elder Rosa couldn't doubt him.
'He must be after the noble title if he didn't care about Princess Davina,' She thought inside.
Upon contemplating for a moment, Great Elder Rosa could do this favor as at worst, even if Rex lost the tournament and was declined as a proper husband, she wouldn't lose face as Rex has two powerful Soul Artifacts.
"And the second favor?" She continued.
"As for the second one," Rex paused for a moment and structured the way he would deliver his second demand smoothly. Then, he continued, "I want your house's help to locate special Voidal Monsters in the area. If you can, help me hunt them,"
Great Elder Rosa's eyes flickered when she heard this.
She instantly knew what Rex was aiming for.
"You… You have an Imbalanced Spiritual Vein," She declared in realization.
Rex didn't react, he already knew that saying this would certainly expose his Spiritual Vein's condition.
"Feeling any calmer now?" He arched an eyebrow, reclining against the torn sofa in a relaxed manner. "I told you, I'm only here temporarily—I have no intention of staying permanently. Once I have taken care of my business, you can even have this body to devour"
"Devouring your body isn't that simple," Great Elder Rosa shook her head.
But this made Rex smile, "I can make it simple. As long as you help me, I'll prove it to you"
Like water to a stranded man in the desert, this offer was extremely enticing.
Even Great Elder Rosa couldn't control her expression.
Her demeanor changed instantly.
For the first time throughout this meeting, her lips curled into a light smile.
"In that case, I have no qualms—in doing those two favors for you," Great Elder Rosa answered, there was no hesitation now with a reward that massive. She then turned to Viora, "Priestess Viora, I apologize for my behavior earlier. I hope you can understand. People from the Mortal Realm are usually not good people,"
Despite this, Viora remained silent.
She was still angry at what Great Elder Rosa did earlier and that's natural.
"Do you need permission from your husband, the marquess?" Rex asked questioningly.
Turning back to him, Great Elder Rosa shook her head, "No, I have the authority to handle this much. It's not like you're asking for an army, only a couple of squads and a talk over tea. I can grant both of your requests just fine. When can you start? I must say, you've come to the right person—for locating special Voidal Monsters,"
"Oh?" Rex was intrigued. "And why is that?"
"Because I have excellent sensory power," Great Elder Rosa answered with a confident smirk.
