Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Secrets Within the Black Jade Pendant
The battle was over, but the disciples were left panting, exhausted, and covered in sweat.
Yan Rui held the black jade pendant in her hands, her delicate fingers tracing the intricate carvings on its surface. A strange energy pulsed from within, making her spiritual core tremble slightly.
"This pendant… it holds something ancient," Xie Yun murmured, his brows furrowed.
Luo Feng, still catching his breath, glanced at them. "What kind of technique could be hidden inside?"
Yan Rui circulated her Qi, allowing a small wisp of her frost energy to seep into the pendant.
BOOM!
A sudden force erupted from within the jade, and a powerful spiritual projection appeared above them.
The image of a mysterious old man, dressed in black robes with golden embroidery, materialized. His aura was unfathomable far beyond anything they had ever sensed before.
"If you have found this pendant… then you are either foolish… or worthy." The old man's voice echoed through the cavern.
The disciples stiffened.
"I am Yun Tian, the former Lord of the Abyss Sect. In my time, I was known as the Master of the Yin-Yang Dao."
They exchanged shocked glances. The Abyss Sect?! That was an ancient sect that had been erased from history thousands of years ago!
"This pendant contains my legacy… a forbidden cultivation technique known as the Yin-Yang Devouring Scripture. If you wish to inherit it, then be warned power comes at a price."
As the voice faded, streams of black and white energy burst from the pendant, surrounding the disciples.
A Test of Willpower
The energy split into two forces one dark, one light and rushed into their bodies.
Luo Feng's veins turned black as devouring energy coursed through him. A whisper echoed in his mind: "Power at any cost… sacrifice, and you shall rise."
Xie Yun felt a strange calmness wash over him, his Tai Chi energy resonating with the Yin-Yang balance within the technique. "Harmony is the key… the world is duality."
Yan Rui, struggling against the force, grit her teeth. Frost Qi clashed with the dark energy, as if rejecting the technique entirely.
The pressure grew stronger, testing their willpower.
Would they accept this ancient power?
Would they be consumed by it?
Chan Li Intervenes
Far above, Chan Li narrowed his eyes as he observed.
"The Yin-Yang Devouring Scripture… so it still exists?"
He had read about it in the ancient texts a technique that could devour both Yin and Yang energies, fusing them into an unparalleled power. However, it was also said to lead cultivators down a path of destruction if not controlled.
"They are not ready for this."
With a wave of his hand, golden Tai Chi energy surged through the abyss, surrounding the disciples and stabilizing their bodies.
The Yin-Yang energy recoiled, merging into the jade pendant instead of forcibly entering them.
The disciples gasped, dropping to their knees.
"Master…?" Luo Feng panted, looking up at the sky.
Yan Rui wiped the sweat from her forehead. "What… was that…?"
Xie Yun held the pendant tightly. "It feels like… we weren't strong enough to inherit the technique fully."
From the shadows, Chan Li smirked.
"Not yet. But soon, you will be."
His disciples were growing. But the true trials had only just begun.
