The Invincible Sect Leader

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Trial of the Phantom General

The ancient battlefield stretched endlessly before Chan Li. The ground was littered with cracked weapons, shattered bones, and remnants of long-forgotten battles. In the distance, two towering figures clashed, their strikes shaking the heavens.

BOOM!

A massive explosion sent shockwaves rippling through the air. One of the combatants, a warrior in pitch-black armor, was wielding a spear that radiated a destructive aura, while the other, an elegant swordsman in flowing robes, executed precise movements as he countered each strike.

Chan Li crossed his arms, watching the battle unfold.

"Hmph. Is this supposed to impress me?"

The voice of the phantom echoed.

"This battle was the final moment of my life. If you can comprehend the ultimate technique I left behind, my legacy shall be yours."

Chan Li sighed. "Another old ghost trying to test me. Seriously, don't you people ever just leave behind an instruction manual?"

The phantom ignored him. "Pay attention. The way of the spear and the way of the sword both hold hidden truths. Only those who can see beyond the strikes may truly wield their power."

Chan Li observed carefully. He noticed that each time the swordsman deflected a strike, his energy coiled and redirected, never fully clashing with the spear's destructive force.

It was Tai Chi in sword form.

Meanwhile, the spearman's overwhelming power came from raw aggression, breaking through everything in its path.

Chan Li smirked. "Interesting. One is balance, the other is destruction. But why do I need to pick just one?"

Without hesitation, he stepped forward into the battlefield

And immediately dodged a flying severed arm that nearly smacked him in the face.

"Damn it, do I look like a body part collector?!"

He barely had time to complain before a massive energy wave shot toward him.

With a flick of his wrist, he twisted his Tai Chi energy, causing the blast to curve around him harmlessly.

The phantom's voice rang in amusement. "You adapt quickly. But can you survive when you become the target?"

Before Chan Li could respond, both warriors turned toward him.

And attacked.

The Dance of Chaos

The black-armored warrior lunged first, his spear tearing through space, generating a storm of energy that twisted reality itself.

Chan Li twisted his body, letting the attack pass within a hair's width, then reached out

GRAB!

He caught the spear's shaft mid-air.

CRACK!

The sheer force sent shockwaves through his bones, but he smirked.

"Too direct. Power without control is just wasted force."

Before the spearman could react, Chan Li spun, redirecting the momentum and slamming the spear back at its owner!

BANG!

The black-armored warrior was sent flying, skidding across the battlefield like a kicked cabbage.

"Oops. Too strong?" Chan Li muttered.

Before he could celebrate, the swordsman had already moved. His blade sliced through the air, sending out hundreds of slashes in an instant.

Chan Li's eyes narrowed.

"So fast"

A normal cultivator would be dead ten times over, but Chan Li wasn't normal.

"Tai Chi: Flowing River Steps!"

His body bent and weaved between the strikes, each movement fluid and unpredictable.

A sword tip scraped his sleeve.

A shockwave ruffled his hair.

A final strike grazed past his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood.

Chan Li grinned.

"Not bad. But you're missing something"

Before the swordsman could react, Chan Li stepped in and

Poked his forehead.

"Boop."

The swordsman froze.

A silence fell over the battlefield. Even the phantom watching seemed stunned.

"Did you just… poke him?"

Chan Li shrugged. "What? He left himself wide open."

The swordsman staggered back, looking down at his chest

Where a ripple of Tai Chi energy spread from the single poke, locking his meridians in place.

With a dumbfounded expression, he fell to one knee.

The Legacy Unleashed

The battlefield shook, and suddenly

The warriors vanished, leaving Chan Li standing in an empty void.

The phantom's voice returned, this time filled with deep respect.

"You… are the first to pass my trial in such a ridiculous way."

Chan Li grinned. "Hey, fighting smart is better than fighting hard."

The black jade pendant floated up, releasing a golden glow.

"Very well. My legacy belongs to you. You have inherited"

The air crackled with energy as a new technique was burned into Chan Li's mind:

"Tai Chi: Yin-Yang Devouring Spear"

"A fusion of balance and destruction. A spear technique that bends the laws of offense and defense."

Chan Li's eyes flashed. "Not bad. Could use a better name, though."

The pendant's light faded, and the phantom gave one last chuckle before his soul finally dispersed into the void.

The trial was over.

As Chan Li opened his eyes, he found himself back in the real world

Only to see Xie Yun, Yan Rui, and the rest of his disciples kneeling before him.

"M-Master…!" Xie Yun stammered.

"Your aura… it changed!" Yan Rui gasped.

Chan Li tilted his head. "Did I get handsomer?"

They stared at him.

"No, but…"

Before they could explain

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted from the nearby forest, and an army of cultivators rushed toward them.

A messenger disciple sprinted over, panting.

"Master! The Bloodfang Sect has come for revenge!"

Chan Li cracked his knuckles.

"Well, well. Looks like we have guests. Time to test my new technique."

With a fearless grin, he stepped forward.

The Invincible Sect Leader was just getting started.
