Chapter 7: THE TRIAL OF OGUN
EXT. HIDDEN CLEARING – NIGHT
Akin still stares at his hands, his breathing uneven.
The power he just felt—it was real.
Oladele paces in front of him, his face twisted in both fear and excitement.
OLADELE
"You sent a beast twice your size flying! How did you do that?"
Akin shakes his head.
AKIN
"I don't know."
But his voice lacks conviction.
Because deep inside, something stirs—something old, powerful, and waiting.
Before Oladele can press further—
A voice cuts through the night.
IWA (O.S.)
"Come with me."
Akin and Oladele turn sharply.
Iwa stands at the edge of the clearing, her expression unreadable.
She isn't surprised.
Not even a little.
---
EXT. SACRED GROVE – MIDNIGHT
Iwa leads them deeper into the forest, far from the clearing, until they reach a place shrouded in mist.
Massive stone pillars, covered in ancient carvings, loom overhead.
Akin shivers.
This place feels different—like it's alive.
IWA
"This is the Grove of the Forgotten. The last place where the gods walked."
Akin frowns.
AKIN
"Why are we here?"
Iwa turns, her eyes piercing.
IWA
"Because it's time you know the truth about yourself."
Akin's stomach tightens.
He doesn't speak. He just listens.
Iwa steps forward, her voice low and steady.
IWA
"You were never meant to be ordinary, Akin. That night at the Blessing Ceremony… the gods did not reject you."
Akin's breath catches.
AKIN
"But… but the High Priest—"
IWA
"Was blind to what truly happened."
Silence.
Akin's mind races.
IWA
"The gods did not reject you because they had already claimed you… long before you were born."
Akin's hands clench.
His pulse pounds.
AKIN
"What do you mean?"
Iwa steps closer.
IWA
"You are chosen by Ogun himself—the strongest of all war gods. But his blessing is not given like the others. It must be earned."
Akin's breath hitches.
Ogun.
The God of War and Iron.
The greatest warrior spirit of them all.
OLADELE
(stunned)
"Akin… you are Omo-Ogun."
A child of Ogun.
A true Son of War.
Akin's world shifts.
Suddenly—everything makes sense.
The rejection. The struggle. The power inside him.
But if this is true…
AKIN
"Then why didn't he bless me that night?"
Iwa's gaze hardens.
IWA
"Because Ogun does not bless the weak. You must prove yourself worthy before he grants you his full power."
Akin's fists tighten.
AKIN
"Then tell me how."
Iwa steps back, eyes glowing in the moonlight.
IWA
"Tomorrow, we begin."
Akin doesn't blink.
Because for the first time—
He knows who he is.
EXT. SACRED GROVE – DAWN
Akin stands barefoot in the heart of the Grove of the Forgotten.
The mist is thicker now, curling around him like unseen spirits watching.
Iwa and Oladele stand nearby, silent.
Akin's heart pounds.
Today, he faces the Trial of Ogun.
And if he fails… he will never wield the god's power.
IWA
"Are you ready?"
Akin nods.
He has no choice but to be.
Iwa steps forward, pressing her palm against a stone pillar.
The carvings glow red.
The ground beneath Akin's feet trembles.
Then—
A deep voice rumbles from the air itself.
OGUN (O.S.)
"You dare seek my power, boy?"
Akin's throat tightens.
The voice is everywhere—in the trees, in the earth, inside his very bones.
OGUN (O.S.)
"Prove your worth… or perish."
A sudden force yanks Akin off his feet—
And hurls him into darkness.
INT. TRIAL REALM – UNKNOWN
Akin lands hard on rocky ground.
He groans, pushing himself up.
Around him—nothing but endless blackness.
Until—
The ground shakes.
A shadow moves.
Akin's breath catches.
Because stepping out of the darkness is—
A giant warrior.
But not just any warrior.
It's him.
A massive, battle-scarred version of himself, twice his size.
The giant's eyes glow red, a massive iron sword in his grip.
Akin swallows hard.
OGUN (O.S.)
"Defeat yourself… or be forgotten."
Akin barely has time to react before the giant version of himself lunges—
Swinging his sword with deadly force.
Akin jumps back, barely avoiding the blade as it slams into the ground, cracking the earth.
Dust rises.
Akin grips his own sword, his mind racing.
How do you defeat… yourself?
THE FIGHT BEGINS
The giant Akin charges again.
Akin dodges, rolling across the ground.
But the giant is faster than he expects.
A massive fist slams into his stomach—
Akin gasps, the air knocked from his lungs.
He stumbles back, his vision blurring.
The giant raises its sword, aiming for his head.
Akin has seconds to react.
He dives to the side just as the blade crashes down—
BOOM!
The impact shakes the ground.
Akin struggles to his feet, his heart pounding.
He can't win with strength.
He has to be smarter.
His mind flashes back to Iwa's words.
"Ogun does not bless the weak. You must prove yourself worthy."
Akin grips his sword tighter.
Maybe this isn't about brute force.
Maybe the real battle…
Is within.
THE FINAL MOVE
The giant lunges again—
But this time, Akin doesn't run.
He steps forward.
The moment their blades clash, Akin locks eyes with the giant.
And he sees it.
The fear. The doubt. The anger buried deep inside himself.
That's the real enemy.
Not the giant.
But the part of him that still doubts he is worthy.
Akin closes his eyes—
And lets go of his fear.
The giant stiffens.
The moment it hesitates—
Akin strikes.
His sword pierces through the giant's chest.
A burst of light erupts.
The giant lets out a final roar—before vanishing into dust.
Silence.
Then—
A deep laughter fills the air.
OGUN (O.S.)
"You understand now."
Akin breathes hard.
The darkness fades.
And when he opens his eyes—
He is back in the Sacred Grove.
But something is different.
Because his body now glows with the mark of Ogun.
His blessing has begun.
EXT. SACRED GROVE – DAWN
Akin stumbles forward, his body tingling with power.
The mark of Ogun burns on his chest, glowing deep red before fading into his skin.
Iwa and Oladele stare, stunned.
IWA
(whispers)
"You did it…"
Akin looks at his hands.
He feels different.
Stronger.
But before he can process it—
The ground trembles.
The air crackles.
Then—BOOM!
A pillar of fire erupts in the sky behind him.
Akin whirls around.
And his heart stops.
Because stepping out of the flames is—
A warrior made of molten iron.
THE GUARDIAN OF OGUN
The warrior's body glows like heated metal, its eyes burning like forge-fire.
It grips a massive war hammer, its presence radiating raw destructive power.
Iwa gasps.
IWA
(fearful)
"The Guardian of Ogun…"
Akin clenches his fists.
IWA
"You have been blessed, Akin. But Ogun's power must be earned. You must prove yourself… in battle!"
Akin's pulse quickens.
Another fight? Already?
He barely survived the Trial Realm.
But there's no time to think.
The Guardian lunges forward.
THE FIGHT BEGINS
Akin dodges just as the war hammer slams into the ground—
BOOM!
A shockwave rips through the Grove, sending dirt and leaves flying.
Akin rolls, barely regaining his balance.
The Guardian doesn't stop.
It swings again—
Akin jumps high, flipping over the attack.
But as he lands—
The Guardian's fist crashes into his chest.
CRACK!
Akin soars backward, smashing into a tree.
Pain explodes through his body.
But he forces himself up.
This is his first true test.
And he refuses to fail.
THE STRATEGY
The Guardian moves like a force of nature.
Unstoppable. Unbreakable.
But Akin notices something.
Every time it swings its hammer, it glows hotter.
Like it's building power—charging up.
Akin's eyes narrow.
Maybe… he can use that.
He grips his sword, waiting.
Let it charge.
Let it grow hotter.
And when the moment is right—
Strike.
THE FINAL MOVE
The Guardian raises its hammer.
It glows white-hot, the heat distorting the air.
Akin rushes forward.
Iwa gasps.
IWA
"Akin, no!"
The hammer swings down.
But at the last second—
Akin sidesteps.
The hammer misses—and slams into the ground.
BOOOOM!
The impact creates a fiery explosion, tearing through the earth—
And at that moment—
The Guardian is wide open.
Akin doesn't hesitate.
He leaps forward—
Drives his blade deep into the Guardian's chest.
FWOOSH!
The warrior freezes.
Its molten body cracks.
Then—
It shatters into burning embers.
The Sacred Grove falls silent.
Akin breathes hard, gripping his sword.
He did it.
THE AFTERMATH
Iwa and Oladele rush forward.
Iwa places a hand on Akin's shoulder, her eyes filled with something new—
Respect.
IWA
"You have passed the test, Akin."
Akin looks at his hands.
His fingers spark with a faint, burning energy.
For the first time…
He feels Ogun's power coursing through him.
He has won.
But deep down—
He knows this is only the beginning.
Because if he has Ogun's blessing now…
It means war is coming.
EXT. AJILOMI VILLAGE – NIGHT
The village is quiet. Too quiet.
The usual sounds of drums and chatter are gone.
Instead, there is an eerie stillness.
Warriors stand alert at the gates, their spears tight in their grip.
Because in the distance—
A storm is coming.
Not of rain.
But of war.
INT. CHIEF'S HUT – NIGHT
Oba Ogunlaja, Akin's father, sits in a tense meeting with the elders.
His voice is grim.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"The scouts have returned."
Elder Falola leans forward.
ELDER FALOLA
"And what have they seen?"
Ogunlaja's jaw tightens.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"They bring ill news. A great army marches toward Ajilomi."
The hut falls silent.
The air thickens with tension.
ELDER FALOLA
(slowly)
"Who leads them?"
OBA OGUNLAJA
(sombre)
"General Arogun."
Murmurs spread through the hut.
Elder Alade grips his staff.
ELDER ALADE
"The butcher of the west…"
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Arogun does not march for sport. He means to conquer."
EXT. VILLAGE WATCHTOWER – NIGHT
A warrior stands on the watchtower, staring into the darkness.
Then—he sees it.
Torches.
Hundreds of them.
Like a serpent of fire, slithering toward Ajilomi.
The warrior's eyes widen.
He turns and rings the war bell.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The sound echoes through the village.
The alarm of war.
EXT. SACRED GROVE – NIGHT
Akin stands before Iwa and Oladele, still catching his breath from his fight.
Then—
The war bell rings.
Akin's stomach tightens.
OLADELE
(frowning)
"That's the alarm… Ajilomi is in danger!"
Iwa grips Akin's arm.
IWA
"Akin, we must return—"
But Akin is already running.
Faster than he's ever run before.
Because he knows—
The war has begun.
EXT. AJILOMI VILLAGE GATES – NIGHT
Warriors rush to their positions.
Bows are drawn. Spears raised.
Ogunlaja stands at the front, eyes locked on the approaching army.
Then—
The enemy army emerges from the darkness.
Hundreds of warriors.
Armored. Armed.
At their front stands General Arogun—a towering warlord with scars across his chest and a cruel grin.
His voice booms through the night.
GENERAL AROGUN
"People of Ajilomi! Surrender now, and I will spare your weak."
Ogunlaja steps forward.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Ajilomi kneels to no one!"
Arogun laughs.
GENERAL AROGUN
"Then you will all die."
He raises his hand.
And the battle begins.
