— It's ready! — Bianca announced, taking the huge roast chicken out of the oven with Ethan's help.
A rich aroma filled the bunker's kitchen, making everyone's mouth water. The chicken's skin was glowing golden, and the white meat underneath was soft and moist from the orange juice. Once on the table, Bianca proceeded to cut it into slices to distribute among them.
Sete was the first to taste the food, in order to test whether it was really possible to eat it without poisoning herself with corruption. The four of them leaned close to her, waiting for some reaction when the young woman put a piece of meat in her mouth.
Spring lowered her head and closed her eyes, part of her light brown hair covering her face. A very pleasant sweet and sour taste greeted her at first, the chicken was salty and tender in just the right way, the fine herbs and the smoky taste left by the orange wood added extra juiciness to the food.
Delicious. Simply delicious.
— It's the best thing I've ever eaten! — Sete exclaimed after a moment's silence, before the four heirs became worried by her lack of reaction. — And it's safe for you! — She said as she checked that there wasn't even a trace of corruption in the food.

They ended up devouring almost half of the overgrown roast chicken, after all, it had been a long time since they had eaten real meat.
Agricultural activities are very restricted in this corruption-plagued world, so ingredients like vegetables, eggs, meat and fruit are only for those who can afford them. The costs of growing healthy plants and keeping so many animals are exorbitant, high enough to cover the basic expenses of an entire small state, which multiplies the value of the end product several times over.
So, with their bellies full of something they couldn't even imagine tasting, the group finally began to develop a strategy to save the imprisoned heirs.
— I think the simplest way to ambush the E.G.O. convoy is to set up some kind of roadblock. — Thomas suggested. — Perhaps thorny vines to puncture the tires, or we could gather scrap metal and debris from the buildings to erect a barricade.
— That's a good idea, but we'll have to be discreet. — Ethan said, crossing his arms over his chest. — These high-risk shipments are always surrounded by military drones, which patrol the road ahead with their cameras. They warn the center of any obstacles or suspicious movements and, depending on what it is, they can even eliminate the threats with their heavy weaponry.
— In this case, we can eliminate the drones discreetly and block the passage of the vans. I can deal with targets from a distance and, with some training, Bianca will be able to help me. — Sete spoke, seriousness in her green eyes. Bianca nodded in agreement. — Of course, I can position thorny vines at certain points along the way to puncture the tires. And we can also distribute rubble along the way, so that they have to slow down to pass us, without the drones having to act effectively.
— That sounds good. — Thomas agreed, nodding. — But what about the E.G.O. agents? There will be at least half a dozen of them in the cars, not counting the driver.
— I-I can help you deal with them. — Ethan offered. — If that's what it takes.
— Hm. We'll train hard until the day of the ambush, everything will be fine. — Sete promised with a dangerous glint in her eye, her delicate smile had a voracious and chilling air.
