Chapter 1
‘Huh? Where am I?’
As Kang Hyunsoo opened his eyes, the scenery of a sunlit room came into view.
The first thing that caught his attention was the medieval-style furniture and household items.
Against one wall stood a full-plate suit of armor, gleaming under the sunlight.
‘That looks like an early Renaissance-style full-plate mail… No, wait! Something’s off! Why am I here instead of a detention center?’
Kang Hyunsoo, a 24-year-old young man.
A well-known military and history YouTuber, he had recently gotten into trouble due to one of his uploaded videos, which led to an investigation by the police.
‘Should’ve known better…’
Blinded by the flood of hefty donations from wealthy viewers, he had crossed the line—and as a result, ended up in a holding cell.
He hadn’t harmed anyone or caused financial damage, but the police had received a report and taken him in for questioning.
Yet, after spending just one night there, he woke up in this bizarre place.
“This is definitely not a holding cell… Could it be a drama or movie set?”
Muttering to himself as he got up, Hyunsoo froze in shock.
First, he found himself speaking a language he didn’t recognize.
Second, the reflection in the mirror showed a young man with black hair, one he had never seen before.
“…W-What the hell? Is this really me?”
Even though the language was unfamiliar, he understood and spoke it fluently—as if it were his native tongue.
And the handsome young man in the mirror… mimicked his every move and expression perfectly.
‘What the hell is going on?!’
As confusion overtook him, a burst of light filled the room—and suddenly, a white, winged cat appeared before his eyes.
“…What? Apostle? Possession?”
Just as Hyunsoo’s expression twisted in shock, a flood of memories rushed through his mind like a flashback.
Philip de Brandel.
The 16th-generation descendant of the Baron Brandel family, a noble house of sword-bearers.
At 20 years old, he had recently inherited the barony following his father’s passing last year.
At the age of 9, he received the blessing of Eldir, the god of blacksmiths.
At 14, he had enrolled in the Arteria Royal Academy.
However, despite these credentials, Philip had always struggled with ruling his domain, as he lacked the natural talent for governance.
“…So, you’re the one who put me in Philip’s body?”
Apparently, without getting hit by a truck, he had somehow ended up in this fantasy world—all because of this so-called guardian angel cat.
Hyunsoo was reminded of the isekai novels his friends used to read in high school.
Protagonists who got reincarnated after being hit by a truck or summoned by a saintess…
Could it be that those stories were actually based on real-life events?!
“…But why me?”
“…And what happened to the original owner?”
As Mau explained, Hyunsoo spotted a strange book with a magical circle on the cover lying on the bed.
“The Secret Art of Soul Reincarnation”
At first glance, it looked completely sketchy, but Philip had apparently believed this book was his escape from an unfair fate.
Even though Mau had repeatedly warned him against it, Philip refused to listen.
‘So that idiot abandoned his own body and ran away… and this mangy furball decided to drag my soul here instead?’
Hyunsoo let out a hollow laugh.
All he ever wanted was to make money while indulging in his military history hobby on YouTube—never did he expect to get “scouted” into another world like this.
“…Then why did the original owner run away if this was so great? Put me back! I may be a history and military geek, but that doesn’t mean I actually want to live in medieval times!”
Mau flatly refused, and Hyunsoo glared at him in disbelief.
“…You’re actually a demon, aren’t you?”
“When did I ever ask you to change my fate?! And besides, what kind of magical girl anime nonsense is a cat angel, huh?”
“Enough of that. Call Eldir. Get your so-called god here and tell him to send me back!”
As Hyunsoo argued back and forth with Mau, a knock on the door interrupted their heated exchange.
*****
“My lord, are you awake? I have brought your wash water.”
At the sound of Helen’s cautious voice, Hyunsoo felt a headache brewing.
“Shut it, you mangy furball! Stay out of my business!”
“Whatever. Just shut up and disappear!”
Guardian angels are invisible to those who haven’t received their blessing.
But since Mau had dragged him into this world without his consent, Hyunsoo had no desire to see his smug little face.
Likewise, Mau seemed to sulk at Hyunsoo’s hostility and vanished in a flash of light.
Sighing, Hyunsoo quickly shoved the suspicious spellbook and ritual materials under the bed, then addressed the waiting maid outside.
“Come in.”
For now, he decided to play along as Philip.
After all, wearing this guy’s face meant denying it would just make him look insane.
The door opened, and in stepped Helen, dressed in the classic attire of a maid.
She was a cute girl with red hair, fair skin, and a few freckles on her cheeks.
“My lord, you look quite tired.”
“Yeah. It’s been a tiring day.”
After all, my entire body changed overnight.
Who the hell wouldn’t be exhausted after something like this?
Letting out a short sigh, Hyunsoo leaned forward to wash his face—
But Helen immediately stopped him.
“My lord, that is improper.”
“Ah, right.”
Nobles do not lower their heads to wash their faces.
As Hyunsoo sat in a chair, Helen carefully soaked a cloth in water and gently wiped his face and neck.
‘…Huh. This isn’t so bad.’
For the first time since childhood, someone was actually tending to him.
Maybe… living as a noble wouldn’t be so terrible after all.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, Mau’s sharp voice echoed in his ear.
‘Shut it, mangy furball. Go write an apology letter or something.’
At the mention of an apology letter, Mau instantly deflated.
It seemed he had already gotten an earful from his superiors over this whole mess.
After finishing his wash, Hyunsoo sat down for a simple breakfast of bread and soup.
As he ate, Helen spoke up.
“Pardon me, my lord, but please make haste. There is a meeting scheduled in the office at 9 AM, and your retainers are already waiting.”
“I got it.”
“Also, for your attire, a modest and subdued style would be advisable. Given the current circumstances, a flashy outfit may harm your reputation.”
Helen was meticulously attentive, almost more like a personal secretary than a maid.
In fact, that’s exactly why she had been chosen as Philip’s exclusive handmaid.
“Additionally, the chief administrator seems to be quite displeased, so please mind your words and actions.”
‘Robert, the viscount?’
A distant relative of the Brandel family and head of the retainers, he had served since the previous lord’s time.
From what Hyunsoo could recall, Robert was competent but also incredibly arrogant—probably because he had attended one of the most prestigious colleges on the continent.
Since there was no avoiding the meeting, Hyunsoo finished his meal, changed into more appropriate attire, and headed to the office.
*****
Inside the lord’s office, Robert and the gathered retainers were already waiting.
As Hyunsoo stepped into the office, his gaze locked onto a stern-looking man wearing a monocle.
This was Viscount Robert, the chief administrator.
“My lord, do you realize you are two minutes late?!”
“Is this really the time to be sleeping in?! We’ve received a final notice from the Callisto Trading Company—they’re coming to collect their debt!”
‘It’s just one or two minutes late, seriously?’
Even Philip’s original memories were filled with resentment toward Robert, and Hyunsoo wasn’t liking him much either.
That said, he had no intention of getting involved in business that wasn’t originally his.
“I warned you, did I not?”
“I told you not to invest in trade ships, yet you insisted. And now—”
While Robert continued his nagging, Hyunsoo half-listened, letting the words go in one ear and out the other.
That was when Mau reappeared, his fur bristling with anger.
‘So he was really hard on Philip?’
Apparently, Mau had once been a prestigious angel, known as the “Celestial Prince”.
But due to Philip’s escape, Eldir had punished him, trapping him in this cat-like form.
‘So, if I really think about it, this whole possession thing is that old man’s fault.’
But whether Hyunsoo glared at him or not, Robert continued his tirade, even pointing a finger in his face.
“You are as foolish as your late father, stubborn despite your incompetence!”
That crossed the line.
The room fell silent, and the retainers visibly tensed.
Hyunsoo himself was about to say something when Carpenter, the knight commander, raised his voice first.
“Chief Administrator! That was too much!”
“And how exactly was I wrong?”
“The former baron wasted a fortune on some third-rate magician who claimed he could ‘harness the wind to fertilize the land.’ Was that not sheer stupidity?”
“You damn old bastard…!”
As the heated argument continued, a semi-transparent screen suddenly appeared before Hyunsoo.
[Mission: Put the Overstepping Chief Administrator in His Place]
Reward: 200 points
Deadline: 7 days
Hyunsoo blinked.
‘…Did you do this?’
Mau puffed up proudly.
‘Yeah, I know. Philip’s memories are still in here.’
At first, Hyunsoo wasn’t planning to get involved.
But now… he couldn’t just ignore it.
After all, he had no intention of becoming a beggar the moment he arrived in this fantasy world.
And besides—
‘I was already looking for an excuse to put this insufferable old man in his place.’
A slow grin spread across Hyunsoo’s face.
Turning to Robert, he spoke in a chilling tone.
“Chief Administrator, what if this ‘foolish’ lord of yours pays off all the debt?”
“Ha! You? Paying off a million Dalants in just three days?!”
“That’s more ridiculous than claiming a dragon is scared of a kobold!”
Robert scoffed, his expression dripping with disdain.
That was when Hyunsoo threw out the bait.
“Then how about we make a bet?”
“…A bet?”
Robert narrowed his eyes.
“If I fail to repay the debt, I will relinquish my power and retire. But if I succeed, you will resign and leave the territory.”
“Because no matter how competent you are, I have no use for a vassal who disrespects his lord.”
The unexpected proposal made Robert hesitate.
This wasn’t the cowardly Philip he was used to.
“What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
“If you’re too scared, just say so and back off.”
Hyunsoo’s mocking tone made a vein pop on Robert’s forehead.
“Fine! If that happens, I will resign. But you better keep your word as well!”
“I swear on the name of House Brandel.”
And just like that—
On his very first day of possession, Kang Hyunsoo had caused a massive incident.
