The Mercenary Slayer Of Holy Knights

Chapter 11: North district

My system activated immediately after obtaining the information. A wave of energy propagated from my body, traveling every corner of the city as an invisible Sonar.

「Scan in progress…」

A data flow was displayed in my field of vision. Light points representing buildings and individuals were taking shape in real time.

"The north district ... let's find it quickly."

The environmental scan operated on a simple but terribly effective principle: it analyzed vital energy flows, physical structures and heat signatures to create a detailed map of my environment. The more I concentrated, the more the analysis became precise, capable of detecting to the heart beats of close individuals.

The precision of the scan depended on several factors:

「Maximum distance - the greater the radius, the more time analysis.」

「Energy level - a further concentration made it possible to identify specific details, such as the presence of enchanted weapons or particularly dangerous individuals.」

「Barriers and interference - Certain magic structures or enchantments could disrupt the analysis.」

「North district detected - Distance: 3.2 km」

My gaze automatically went to the area concerned. A group of fortified buildings detached from the rest of the city.

"It must be there ..."

I hugged my bag of gold coins and started, gradually accelerating the plunge.

This day, I was going to meet Darius Venmorm.

I was walking insured towards the north district, my thoughts oscillating between my mission and this little bitch of Selene.

She had me really well ...

I opened my inventory, recovering the small bag of provisions given by the villagers of the Drakmor forest. Inside, pieces of dried meat, a compact bread and some fruits kept in bamboo leaves.

I crunched in a piece of meat while walking.

"Not bad…"

The texture was hard, but the slightly spicy taste compensated. These villagers may have miserable living conditions, but they knew how to cook.

By advancing, I discreetly scanned the crowd of the gaze.

If this Selene is still in town, I will find her.

Thanks to my advanced perception capacity, I could recognize the energy signatures of the people I had encountered. If she was still in the city of pleasures, she would not escape my scan.

「Activated scan」

My interface traced the human presence around me in the form of luminous silhouettes, but no trace of Selene.

"Tss ... she had to spin at dawn."

I sighed and continued to move forward, swallowing a last bite of bread.

The north district was getting closer.

By approaching the north district, I immediately noticed a change of atmosphere.

Here, the festive agitation of the City of Pleasures gave way to a darker and methodical atmosphere. The streets were better maintained, the buildings more luxurious, and above all ... there was control.

In front of the main entrance, several heavily armed mercenaries filled the entrances. They wore black armor encrusted with gold, with a snake emblem, the mark of certain influential clans of the city.

"Interesting…"

The men who were passing by were merchants, businessmen, crime lords, and of course, high -ranking mercenaries.

The north district was the heart of the true masters of the city, those who, in the shadows, stood up to the kingdom of Solaria.

It is not surprising that Darius Venmorth lives here.

Holy Knights were not welcome in this district. These controls had a clear goal: to prevent any infiltration of the crown and protect the affairs of those who led this side of the world.

I slow down, watching the scene.

"Top in this will not be a simple formality ..."

While I got closer to the control post, one of the mercenaries immediately barred the road, my hand placed on the handle of his sword.

"Stop there. Present your entry pass."

An entry pass?

I raised an eyebrow, then observed the comings and goings of other passers -by. All those who entered presented a small metal plate, marked with a unique seal.

"Tsk..."

Another mercenary approached, arms crossed.

"This is the first time you come here, huh? The north district is not a place where anyone can walk. Either you are an affiliate of a clan, or you are an official guest. Without a pass, you release."

I folded my eyes.

The input pass was therefore used as a filter to control who had the right to tread this soil.

The City of Pleasures was a lair of crime, but the northern district was the domain of the elites. Here, influential merchants, renowned murderers, traffickers and even corrupt nobles shared power.

The passes prevented beggars, the low "level crooks and especially the kingdom's spies from entering too easily."

"Of course, I am supposed to be here ... But they don't know it yet."

I think for a moment.

Either I found a way to get around this problem, or I gave myself an entry pass in one way or another ...

I sighed slightly, then adjusted my cape.

Omni charm was not limited to a simple sexual attraction. Its main effect was to manipulate the perception of others, by subtly influencing them according to my will.

I lifted the hood slightly and left a confident smile taking shape on my lips.

"Gentlemen ... I said, crossing my arms. You know I have a pass, right?"

The mercenaries frowned, but I felt their hesitation being born instantly.

"A pass ...? said one of them, doubtful."

I nodded, as if it were obvious.

"Obviously. Have you ever seen it, right?"

One of the guards opened his mouth, then closed it, troubled. His gaze stared at the void, as if he tried to find a no existent memory.

The Omni Charme created cognitive flaws, pushing the victims to fill the whites with falsely made memories.

The second mercenary rubbed the temple, before raising your shoulders.

"Yeah ... it's true that I have the impression that he showed it to us, in fact ..."

"It's not wrong ..."

I looked at them with an annoyed air.

"So why are you wasting my time? You know that my employer does not like being delayed."

The first mercenary is immediately stiffened.

"Well! No need to make history, huh!"

They moved away, leaving me free field.

I walked without hesitation, as if everything was natural, crossing the large door that led to the northern district.

As soon as I entered the enclosure, a completely different world offered to me.

The North district had nothing to do with the rest of the City of Pleasures.

Where the lower alleys were full of noisy taverns, lupanars and black market, the North district displayed sophisticated architecture, clean cobbled streets, and luxurious buildings decorated with statues and marble fountains.

"Tsk... it stinks of arrogance and money."

Men in refined tunic, hooded nobles, and elite mercenaries patrolled everywhere.

To my right, a huge marketplace offered exotic and prohibited objects:

- Enchanted weapons sold at exorbitant prices.

- Alchemical potions prohibited by the Church of Solaria.

- Chained slaves, head down, waiting for a buyer.

I felt an unpleasant tingling at the bottom of my mind.

"This is not my problem."

I continued my walk, melting myself into the crowd.

The North district was divided into three large areas:

1. The commercial district → where illegal affairs and arms sales were negotiated.

2. The district of pleasures → where the elites came to engage in exotic entertainment.

3. The Manoirs district → where the rich lords and the chiefs of the mafia clans lived.

My goal was clearly defined.

"Darius Venmorm is somewhere in the Manoirs district."

But before that, it was necessary to collect more information ...
