Chapter 32: Chapter 31:[The Land of Waves l ]
The sun was setting by the time Team 7 arrived at Tazuna's home. They were greeted by Tsunami, Tazuna's daughter, who quickly ushered them inside.
Kakashi was promptly taken to the guest room, where he collapsed onto the futon, finally succumbing to chakra exhaustion.
The rest of the team chose different spots around the house to keep watch, ready to protect Tazuna in case anyone else came for him.
Later that night.
Tsunami brought out tea and rice for the group, her voice warm and soothing. "You've all done so much already. Please, eat as much as you want. You need your strength."
Kakashi, leaning slightly on his crutch as he sipped his tea, nodded appreciatively. "Thank you. We'll need every bit of strength ."
After the meal, Naruto stepped outside onto the porch. He stood silently, arms crossed, staring at the fading sunlight. His brow furrowed as he replayed the fight with Zabuza in his mind, analyzing every move and weakness he'd noticed.
Hinata joined him after a moment, her presence calm and steady. "Naruto-kun, are you okay?"
Naruto glanced at her, his expression softening as he took a deep breath. "Just thinking. That fight today… it showed me how much we could get stronger . Zabuza was strong. And… I don't think we've seen the last of him."
Hinata activated her Byakugan briefly, scanning the area for any signs of danger. "The hunter-nin didn't seem right. It felt… planned. Zabuza could still be alive."
Naruto's fists tightened. "Exactly. That hunter-nin was watching us the whole time. They only stepped in when Zabuza was about to lose. It wasn't just a coincidence."
Hinata looked at him, her voice steady yet reassuring. "But we held our ground, Naruto-kun. You know we could've beaten him if we hadn't held back without even using Kurama's chakra."
" She's right. Don't work yourself up for nothing".Kurama's voice spoke into his mind.
Naruto let out a small chuckle, his shoulders relaxing slightly. "You're right, Hinata. We should just focus on improving ourselves."
Hinata smiled softly, the two of them settling into a comfortable silence as they watched the stars in the night sky.
Inside the house, Sasuke sat by the window, sharpening a kunai in the dim light. His expression was tense, his thoughts consumed by the battle earlier.
Kakashi had to save us. If I had been stronger—no, if I didn't have to carry the others—we could've ended it before it even started.
Kakashi, seated nearby, noticed the boy's scowl. Despite his exhaustion, the veteran shinobi spoke up, his tone calm yet firm. "Sasuke, you've got talent. But talent alone won't win every fight. What matters is how you work with your team."
Sasuke didn't look up from his kunai. "I don't need a team to get stronger. They will only hold me back" he muttered.
Kakashi sighed, his visible eye narrowing slightly as he spoke. "You'll learn, in time, that strength isn't everything. Battles aren't just about power—they're about strategy, trust, and timing. Without those, even the strongest shinobi falls."
Sasuke didn't respond, but his grip on the kunai tightened.
Kakashi looke at Sasuke's demeanor and couldn't help but reflect on his wayward team as he observed them.
Ever since their formation, one thing had stood out to him: the unusual closeness between Naruto and Hinata. It wasn't just their quiet understanding of each other, but the drastic change in Naruto's behavior around her.
Gone was the loud, reckless "idiot" that everyone assumed him to be. Instead, there was a calm, calculated Naruto—a sharp contrast to the image he usually projected. I
t was as if the boisterous personality was a mask, one he wore to hide something deeper.
Kakashi's sharp instincts told him there was more to Naruto than he let on. His confidence, his strategic thinking, and the way he subtly guided Hinata in battle all hinted at a side of him most people overlooked.
It was as though Naruto knew far more than he was willing to show.
The bond between Naruto and Hinata intrigued Kakashi even further.
They moved and communicated almost instinctively, a level of trust that couldn't have developed overnight. Whatever their secret was, it clearly pushed them both to excel.
As Kakashi leaned against the wall, he let out a soft sigh. I'll keep an eye on them. If they're hiding something, it might just be what sets them apart in the long run.
