chapter 96
“Do you mind waiting here for a moment?”
Outside the ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) restaurant, Kim Mi-kyung said she was going to take a call. Tae-seo told her to take her time and that he’d wait here, but she didn’t move right away.
“In-hyuk, shouldn’t you be heading back in?”
“You go ahead and make your call.”
Though she was subtly telling In-hyuk he could go, he subtly refused just the same. Kim Mi-kyung looked like she didn’t know what to do for a moment, but with time pressing, she finally walked away, phone in hand.
Left alone, Tae-seo began tapping the ground with the tip of his foot.
“You know why I joined as an intern, right?”
“You said something like you were going to shake Se-heon-hyung up.”
He remembered exactly—but didn’t show it.
“That won’t take long. But before that, how about I catch you on the day you’re shaken?”
“In-hyuk, why would I catch you? You need to find your own footing.”
Tae-seo shook his head.
“Know where you belong. You’re working in a company where your grandfather is the chairman.”
Meaning, it wasn’t a company to ruin out of jealousy or resentment. And especially not over him.
Tae-seo clicked his tongue, clearly unimpressed, and turned his body away. Whatever In-hyuk tried to pull off, that was Kang Se-heon’s business to deal with. Frankly, even if In-hyuk leaked company info, that wasn’t something Tae-seo needed to get involved in.
“Trying to shake me is where you already screwed up. I don’t even know if you can handle going against Se-heon-hyung. This is your grandfather’s company—treat it with care. If you don’t, you’ll regret it later.”
Tae-seo turned around, offering that as advice—basically telling him to mind his own business—when his arm was grabbed, making his upper body lurch back.
“If I’m capable of shaking up my grandfather’s company, then you should know better than anyone… who I’m doing all this insane shit for.”
In-hyuk’s words, spilling out between his clenched teeth, drilled straight into Tae-seo’s ears.
“If you wanted it, I’d give you my liver and gallbladder. This kind of thing? It’s nothing.”
“If I wanted it, would you give me your life too?”
“Tae-seo. How would I survive if I gave you my liver and gallbladder?”
In-hyuk’s softened voice started to creep along Tae-seo’s trembling heart, trying to coax it back toward him.
“In-hyuk, I know this is your best attempt at wooing me…”
Tae-seo was just about to say it—he wanted this tiresome conversation to finally be over.
[Do you want to see me?]
An all-too-familiar voice drifted into his ears and stole away his focus. It was Kang Se-heon’s voice, and for a second, Tae-seo thought it was a hallucination. After all, here he was, stuck in an unpleasant conversation with Kang In-hyuk, so it made sense that he’d start craving Se-heon.
But when Tae-seo looked up at In-hyuk, he realized it wasn’t just in his head. In-hyuk was frowning deeply too, as if he’d heard the same voice.
And just seeing that made Tae-seo want to laugh for some reason.
He pressed his lips together to stifle it and avoided In-hyuk’s gaze. He wanted to stay in this heightened mood a bit longer.
Then, realizing that In-hyuk had also turned away from him, Tae-seo followed his gaze.
When he saw what was playing on the giant screen, Tae-seo’s mouth slowly opened.
He was on the screen.
All those moments that Kang Se-heon had recorded of him were playing. Everyday life clips—some were shaky, some out of focus—but that only made them more vivid and real.
As he blankly stared at his own face on the screen, he remembered something Se-heon had said before.
—Anything I record with this is going to be used.
“In-hyuk.”
Tae-seo spoke with a voice that sounded almost entranced, and In-hyuk responded irritably. But right now, Tae-seo’s expression, no matter how you looked at it, was one of deep emotion. He’d thought he’d seen everything in the TF team’s files, but this… this was something he hadn’t expected.
“Let’s stop this now.”
There was no longer a single emotion directed toward In-hyuk in Tae-seo’s softened gaze.
“Yoon Tae-seo.”
“This is enough. So go live your life. I’m leaving.”
Right now, Tae-seo wanted to see Kang Se-heon.
He turned to leave, saying goodbye to In-hyuk without even a glance back, and walked toward the company. In-hyuk stared at his retreating back and finally opened his mouth.
“Yoon Tae—”
But the moment he tried to follow Tae-seo, his wrist was grabbed. He turned—and there stood Kim Mi-kyung, who he hadn’t even noticed returning.
She looked at In-hyuk and shook her head.
“This is as far as it goes, In-hyuk.”

Seo Da-rae stood quietly, watching the commercial video of Yoon Tae-seo on his phone.
[So tiny.]
Tae-seo held up a baby outfit he said was a gift, comparing it to his own T-shirt. He placed a pair of baby shoes in his palm, smiling as he looked at them.
His face filled the screen in a close-up as he arranged the gifts and the things he’d bought himself inside a room marked as the nursery, counting the days.
The short video ended with Tae-seo suddenly saying he was hungry while counting on his fingers—and then photos began appearing one by one.
Him eating cake. The moment he opened his mouth wide to fit an entire dumpling in one bite wasn’t silly—it was adorable.
A shot of him dozing off while reading a book even gave off a sense of peace—you could feel exactly how the person taking the photo must have felt.
You didn’t see who was holding the camera, but it was obvious. It had to be Kang Se-heon.
“This was doomed from the start.”
Thinking he could change Kang Se-heon’s heart—that had been Seo Da-rae’s fatal misjudgment. No wonder everything he tried had been for nothing.
“Yoon Tae-seo’s… something else.”
Seo Da-rae muttered to himself, but his expression barely changed. Well, the conviction he’d solidified the day he met Kang In-hyuk was finally showing results.
“Is it confirmed?”
“Just tell them it’s from Seo Da-rae.”
He turned off the commercial and put his phone away in his bag.

Back at the company, Tae-seo looked around, not even noticing the increased number of stares directed his way. He had called on the way over, but the secretary had answered and said Se-heon was in a meeting. She also said he’d be heading out right after it ended, which made Tae-seo head straight to the reception desk.
“Did the Executive VP leave already?”
“Not yet.”
At the receptionist’s kind response, Tae-seo let out a deep sigh and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Just knowing he hadn’t missed him was enough of a relief.
He turned his head without thinking—and spotted a familiar silhouette leaving the building.
As he quickly walked over, shortening the distance between them, he realized the person he’d been looking for was exactly who he thought.
That broad back, that straight spine—Kang Se-heon’s back, the one Tae-seo hadn’t been able to forget since the moment they met.
The one who had taken him in, cared for him, and eventually became someone he was tied to—body and soul. The one who acted like he wasn’t interested, yet constantly gave and comforted him.
Kang Se-heon was the one who calmed him when he was disoriented, possessed by the person named Yoon Tae-seo. Because he existed, Tae-seo had been able to endure. When he believed he was doomed to die, trapped in a pit he couldn’t climb out of—Kang Se-heon had been the one to pull him out. When he collapsed after taking the drug, it was Kang Se-heon who saved him.
At some point, he’d begun carrying him in his heart. And at some point after that, Kang Se-heon had become his entire world. With him, the world ran properly. With him, it didn’t collapse—it stayed balanced.
When he opened his eyes after taking the drug, it had felt like he’d fully become Yoon Tae-seo. But now… now, it felt like this world was truly his.
Instead of shouting Kang Se-heon’s name, Tae-seo picked up his pace. And when he grabbed Se-heon’s arm just as he was about to get in the car, Se-heon turned and met his gaze.
“Are you busy?”
“I was about to go see you.”
Then why was he here?
The way he spoke—it was as if he already knew exactly where Tae-seo had been.
Still catching his breath, unable to calm the rough pounding in his chest, Tae-seo looked up at him.
“Anywhere’s fine. I just want to be with you.”
Kang Se-heon pulled Tae-seo’s hand and got into the car with him. Someone else seemed to be sitting in the driver’s seat, but Tae-seo couldn’t register anything—his entire mind was focused solely on Se-heon.
All he could vaguely sense was that they were in motion, going somewhere dimly lit—and that a shadow had fallen over Se-heon’s face.
Once the vibrations of the car had stopped and they were alone, Tae-seo’s expression visibly softened. He let out a long breath, and Se-heon gently lifted his chin so their eyes would meet.
“How was it?”
“I was surprised.”
“That’s all?”
At Se-heon’s question, Tae-seo paused for a moment, then gave the honest answer that had come after the surprise.
“I liked it.”
It was one of those moments where he felt truly grateful to have become Yoon Tae-seo.
“That’s good.”
Satisfied with the answer, Kang Se-heon pulled him into a hug.
“I only had today to put it up, so I wanted to show it as big as I could.”
When Tae-seo looked up at him silently, Se-heon explained further.
“Tomorrow, another team member’s video will go up. The one of you—it was just a one-time event. It won’t be uploaded anywhere else or kept.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t want it circulating on the internet.”
Chairman Kang Hak-jung had released their photo to the public to announce their relationship, but Se-heon had no intention of letting the video he made remain out in the open.
“Can you even do that?”
Without answering, Kang Se-heon pulled him into a tighter embrace. Held firm in that solid chest, Tae-seo slowly closed his eyes. Maybe it was from the tension of running here just to see Se-heon, but his breathing had grown ragged. He inhaled deeply, as much as he had exhaled.
The air filling his lungs and Se-heon’s scent surrounding him gradually loosened his body. Tae-seo remained like that for a while, buried in Se-heon’s arms, breathing in his pheromones.
The scent of the one he loved. Kang Se-heon’s pheromones—one of a kind in this world.
His Alpha. His Alpha alone. The Alpha he loved most in this world.
