The Pokémon:Isekai

Chapter 29: Changes

The coin spun in the air, catching what little light remained in the cave. It felt like time had slowed, every second stretching longer than it should. Just as it began its descent, our flashlights flickered erratically, drawing our attention away from the coin and toward the upper level of the cave.

The ladder above us swayed slightly, the dim light revealing nothing but jagged rock and dripping water. Still, something felt wrong.

Skyla took a sharp breath and shut her eyes, tilting her head slightly downward. She was focusing—listening.

Then, her eyes snapped open. "Something is coming!"

The moment she spoke, our flashlights died completely.

Darkness swallowed us, leaving only the eerie glow of Rotom's screen.

"Rotom!" I called, tossing the empty bottle from earlier into the air.

Skyla and I instinctively pressed our backs against each other, bracing ourselves.

Rotom ignited itself in ghostly purple flames, setting the bottle ablaze as it arced through the air. The fire flickered wildly, illuminating nothing—just damp stone and the occasional droplet of water falling from the ceiling.

Aria leaped onto my shoulder, her weight grounding me, while Oddy crouched low, ready to release a Stun Spore at a moment's notice.

I crouched down picking a rock from the ground and then standing up tightening my grip on it. "Do you sense anything, girl?" I whispered to Aria.

The bottle's fire flickered lower.

Aria remained silent, completely focused, while Rotom strengthened its Will-O-Wisp, casting flickering shadows along the cave walls.

Our gazes locked onto Aria. She would be the one to tell us where to strike.

The bottle melted.....

The fire died.....

No lights...

Only Rotom's dim glow remained.

Then Aria suddenly shifted her focus—not toward the darkness ahead but toward Oddy.

I turned my head just in time to see Oddy trembling, staring at something unseen.

My breath hitched. I followed his gaze—

Then out of darkness ı saw a twitch in the darkness. Then out of Instincts ı yanked Skyla down by her coat without thinking, just as something shot past us . A powerful ball seared the air above us, followed by the sound of stone melting.

"ROTOM, SHADOW BALL! ODDY, STUN SPORE! ARIA, HEX!"

The cave erupted in action. Rotom fired a Shadow Ball into the darkness. Oddy released a thick cloud of golden spores. Aria's Hex followed immediately after.

A heavy THUD echoed through the cave.

[ALEX CARTER, IT MISSED!] Rotom shouted.

I grabbed my flashlight and threw it toward where the attack had come from. "WILL-O-WISP!"

Rotom ignited the flashlight midair, its flames casting long shadows along the cavern walls.

And then I saw it.

Thick, rugged skin, covered in armor-like scales. A powerful, spiked tail. Muscular limbs that looked strong enough to crush boulders.

A Nidoking.

Except—

Its skin wasn't the usual deep purple. It was yellow.

I stared in disbelief. Rotom and Skyla had the same stunned expression.

"It's an Adapted Pokémon…" I muttered.

The Nidoking's fist crackled with energy.

[HE'S USING THUNDER PUNCH! DODGE, ALEX CARTER! SKYLA!]

The beast lunged, its electrified fist aimed directly at us.

I reacted on instinct, hurling my rock at its face. It connected his eyes with a hard smack.

"It hit!" I yelled—only for Nidoking to let out a furious roar.

I barely had time to process what I had just done before he lunged again.

I ran forward, barking out orders. "Oddy, Sleep Powder! Aria, stand by for Hex! Skyla, get back!"

Oddy leaped onto Nidoking's arm, releasing a cloud of shimmering powder. The Adapted Pokémon staggered, its eyes momentarily clouding over.

"NOW, ARIA—HEX!"

But before the attack could land, Nidoking clenched its other fist, which sparked with electricity, and punched itself in the gut. The jolt snapped it out of its dazed state, but Aria's Hex still struck.

Not as strong as I had hoped, but a hit was a hit.

Nidoking's throat bulged.

I knew what was coming.

"ARIA, TELEPORT! SAVE ODDY!"

Aria vanished in a flash of energy, reappearing behind Oddy and kicking him away just in time before teleporting again.

SPLASH—

The Sludge Bomb hit the ground where Oddy had just stood. The stone beneath it melted instantly.

I winced. That could have been him.

"Skyla, anything to help?!" I yelled, barely dodging another attack as I turned to her.

She was rummaging through her luggage, frustration written all over her face.

"You said you had a plan! Where is it?!"

She snapped her head up. "I'm on it, okay?!"

Then, suddenly, she smirked.

"Here, take this and throw it at him when the time is right!"

She tossed me a strange metal ball.

I caught it, frowning. "What the hell is this?!"

"It's a containment foam bomb! The liquid inside hardens on contact, trapping whatever it touches!"

I looked at the ball, then at her, then back at the rampaging Nidoking.

Rotom hovered beside us, its body crackling.

[ALEX CARTER! I FOUND IT'S TYPING. IT'S A ELECTRIC AND POISON TYPE!]

I looked at Rotom. "That means… Electric moves won't work on it."

[EXACTLY. BUT THIS DOES.]

Rotom focused his power then fired a Shadow Ball straight at Nidoking, slamming him into the cave wall.

I gritted my teeth, gripping the containment bomb tightly.

"Then let's finish this."

"Let's go!" Skyla rushed forward, determination in her eyes.

But just as she moved, Nidoking ripped itself free from the crater in the wall, its glowing yellow eyes locking onto her with a predatory intensity.

Skyla skidded to a halt. A nervous chuckle escaped her lips. "Haha… Alex, maybe you should go first?" She glanced at me apologetically.

I couldn't help but laugh, despite the situation. "Coward."

Before I could say anything else, Nidoking let out a deafening roar, shaking the entire cave. Dust and loose rocks fell from the ceiling as the monstrous Pokémon charged—straight for Oddy!

"Oddy, dodge!—No, Aria, teleport him!"

Rotom zipped forward, its body crackling with anticipation, ready to assist.

Aria reacted instantly, vanishing in a flicker of light, appearing right behind Oddy to kick him out of harm's way—

—but looks like that was His plan all along.

The moment Aria teleported, Nidoking's eyes tracked her, not Oddy.

With a savage swing of its muscular thunderus arm, it struck Aria mid-air.

"ARIA!"

She flew across the cave, her small body colliding with the rocky wall with a sickening thud.

I barely had time to process the hit before Nidoking spun back and drove a Poison Jab straight into Oddy's gut.

Oddy let out a pained screech as he was sent flying backward, crashing to the ground.

Both of them…

Aria's form flickered, her body too weak to stay solid. She was out cold.

Oddy was struggling, pushing himself up despite his injuries.

Skyla stood frozen, watching in horror.

I didn't hesitate. "Rotom, distract!"

Rotom immediately surged forward, unleashing a flurry of Will-O-Wisps to keep Nidoking occupied but all of them missed. The cave flickered with eerie blue light as the ghostly flames swirled around the massive Adapted Pokémon.

I slid on my knees toward Aria, scooping up her fainted body checking her condition. "You did good, girl," I whispered before returning her to her Pokéball.

Then, I bolted toward Oddy, dodging between Rotom and Nidoking's chaotic battle.

The moment I reached Oddy, I saw him trembling, his legs wobbling as he tried—desperately—to stand. His body was covered in bruises and gashes, his breathing ragged.

"Damn it… hang in there, buddy."

I dug through my Inventory, pulling out a handful of Potions, spraying them over his wounds one by one.

Nothing.

They weren healing but it was slow.

But even as the pain wracked his body, he refused to stay down.

"Oddy, that's enough! Return!"

I pulled out his Pokéball and activated it—but the red light didn't absorb him.

Oddy stood firm, his battered body trembling, but his eyes… his eyes burned with determination.

Looks like he wasn't done.

I stared at him, feeling my heart pound next to him, then… I smirked.

"Alright, buddy… lets see how it is."

I stood up beside him as he leaped onto a nearby rock, his legs no longer shaking. He let out a battle cry, planting his feet.

Nidoking roared again, still locked in a fight with Rotom.

"Rotom, hit it with Will-O-Wisp one more time, then fall back to Skyla!"

Rotom's flames flared brighter as it dove forward, setting Nidoking's chest ablaze. The fire clung to the beast's armor-like skin, making it snarl in frustration.

Then, Rotom retreated, floating next to me.

["Are you sure about this, Alex Carter?"] Rotom asked, concern evident in its voice.

I didn't answer immediately. I just turned to Oddy, watching the way he stood strong despite his Injuries.

"I might not be sure," I said, "but he is."

Rotom hesitated, then let out a small hum before grinning. It floated back, standing guard over Skyla.

I turned back to Nidoking.

"Oddy, let's end this!"

Oddy let out another battle cry, but his body started glowing.

Light began to swirl around him—

Shimmering, shifting, changing.

The entire cave was bathed in a warm, radiant glow as Oddy's silhouette grew larger. His small form expanded, his stubby legs elongating, his leaves gathering like blades.

A powerful gust of energy surged from his evolving form.

Skyla gasped. "He's—!"

I clenched my fists, eyes locked onto him.

With a final, brilliant flash that covered the cave—

Oddy evolvedd.
