The Rebirth of Harry Potter

Chapter 29: Chapter 28: Riding a Broomstick

Today, the sky was clear, with white clouds drifting across the blue expanse.

During breakfast, Harry found himself surrounded by a group of girls. Since Hermione wasn't by his side today, some of them seemed to think they had a chance.

With so many girls gathered around him, Harry felt an overwhelming pressure. Even when he had first entered the Great Hall at the start of the term, it hadn't been this awkward.

Every movement he made was observed, and from time to time, he was gently asked questions. Their heated gazes felt like they were about to melt him.

Of course, they didn't do anything inappropriate—after all, it would be terrible if they ended up annoying Harry. Instead, they behaved like proper ladies—backs straight, smiles reserved, eating gracefully and delicately. Some looked at him with warmth, others with bold curiosity, and some with a probing gaze.

Being surrounded by girls was both a luxury and a torment!

That morning, Neville received a Remembrall from his grandmother.

When touched, a Remembrall would turn red if its owner had forgotten something. This fascinating item immediately sparked curiosity among those around Neville.

However, in typical Neville fashion, as soon as he touched the Remembrall, it turned red—but he had no idea what he had forgotten!

While Neville and the others were messing around, Malfoy seemed to have the intention of snatching the Remembrall. However, just as he was about to make his move, his eyes instinctively flicked toward Harry.

Harry, as if he had already guessed Malfoy's intentions, simply smiled at him. That single glance shattered Malfoy's plans completely!

Feeling a slight shiver in his heart, Malfoy walked over to Harry's table, putting on a smug and arrogant expression.

"During today's flying lesson, I hope you don't fall off your broomstick, Harry Potter..." he sneered.

Harry chuckled. "Since when does Malfoy from Slytherin care about others? Just a friendly reminder—Gryffindor seems to have more House points than Slytherin right now. You haven't forgotten what happens to the losers, have you?"

Harry's words were like an arrow piercing through Malfoy's pride. His whole body trembled slightly, and after letting out a scornful snort—like a typical villain after getting humiliated—he turned and left.

Finishing his meal quickly, Harry left the Great Hall. Meanwhile, a girl from Hermione's dormitory, after finishing her breakfast, returned to wake Hermione up.

Thanks to an extra hour of sleep, Hermione finally felt somewhat refreshed.

The first class of the day was Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration lesson. However, it was clear that this was the least focused class since the start of the term—because next was their first flying lesson.

Before class…

"Why isn't there a spell to instantly make someone feel refreshed?" Hermione complained to Harry, her slightly flushed face still dotted with tiny water droplets—it seemed like she had rushed straight to class after washing her face.

"Spells aren't omnipotent. Though, I suppose Snape's potions could have that effect… but they'd definitely come with nasty side effects."

"I saved you some breakfast. Hurry up and eat before Professor McGonagall arrives."

Harry took out three slices of toast and a plump, juicy chicken leg he had set aside for her earlier.

"Wow…" Hermione gasped in delight. She had already resigned herself to going hungry all morning, but Harry had actually thought to bring her food.

Lowering her head, she quietly nibbled on the bread. Fortunately, since they were sitting in the front row, no one noticed.

As she ate in secret, shielded by Harry, a strange warmth surged through her chest.

The chicken leg was still warm, and as Hermione took a bite, the rich, savory aroma of the meat spread through the classroom, making everyone's stomachs growl. Students began looking around, trying to find out who was so cruel as to eat something so delicious in class—but to no avail.

When Professor McGonagall entered the classroom, she twitched her nose slightly before stepping up to the podium. She swept her gaze across the room, finally stopping on Hermione.

Hermione sat up straight, staring ahead with a composed expression, showing no trace of guilt.

"Miss Granger," Professor McGonagall said without hesitation, "next time, remember to wipe the grease off your mouth after eating in class."

The students below couldn't help but laugh, and Malfoy deliberately laughed extra loudly.

Hermione's face, already naturally rosy, instantly started steaming with embarrassment…

And so, because she had eaten in class, Professor McGonagall deducted five points from Gryffindor.

After class, the students rushed out of the classroom and charged toward the castle grounds, cheering excitedly.

There was a gentle breeze today. As they stepped onto the grass, the blades swayed like waves, spreading out into the distance. From the castle entrance, Hagrid's wooden hut and the dark treetops at the edge of the Forbidden Forest were visible.

Their flying instructor, Madam Hooch, had short gray hair and sharp yellow eyes, resembling those of an eagle.

She spoke fast and sharply, somewhat like Snape, though her voice was far more pleasant to listen to than his dramatic pauses and sneering tone.

On the ground, a row of somewhat worn broomsticks was lined up in two rows. Gryffindor and Slytherin students stood facing each other.

After demonstrating how to command the broom, Madam Hooch blew her whistle, and soon, the air was filled with a chorus of "Up! Up!" as the students attempted to summon their brooms.

Harry only had to say it once, and his broom obediently leaped into his hand. Gripping it, he felt a surge of excitement—he couldn't wait to try flying.

But not everyone was as lucky as Harry.

Opposite him, Malfoy watched Harry's effortless success and felt irritation welling up inside him.

This doesn't mean anything. He'll definitely embarrass himself later. Definitely…

Hermione and Neville, however, did better than they had in the original story. On their third attempt, their brooms finally responded and jumped into their hands.

Ron, on the other hand, had been shouting for ages—his voice was the loudest of all. But… well… hehe…

Next, Madam Hooch began teaching them the proper way to fly.

"Listen up! Don't grip your broom too tightly out of nervousness, or it might keep flying higher and higher. But don't hold it too loosely either, or you won't have enough control to steer properly. Now, just try lifting off—not too high, not too fast. Take it slow!"

After hearing her instructions, the students hesitated. Instead of eagerly jumping onto their brooms, they glanced at each other, waiting for someone else to go first.

Harry held his broom, feeling an odd sense of familiarity with it, as if controlling it would be the easiest thing in the world. He casually spun the broom in his hands while whistling—but didn't mount it just yet.

Seeing this, Malfoy assumed Harry lacked confidence or perhaps even had a fear of heights…

Feeling triumphant, Malfoy hopped onto his broom and pushed off hard with his feet.

His body lifted into the air, legs leaving the ground—he was flying!

However, judging by the tension on his face and his rather slow ascent, it was easy to tell that all his boasting about "dodging helicopters" was likely just talk.
