The Regressed Mercenary’s Machinations

Chapter 626

Chapter 626: Come Find Me. (1)

Arterion was taken aback. A mere rookie human had single-handedly released his magic.

“What the…?”

This wasn’t something anyone could just do. If it were something anyone could do, there wouldn’t be any need to hide the positions of the Controllers.

With just a few more people, they could have dispersed to several fortresses to prepare.

Controlling this much magic required a high realm. Such a person wouldn’t be common, would they?

Arterion glared at Alfoy.

“That guy is just…”

No matter how he looked at it, he didn’t seem like a High Circle mage. Perhaps he was only at the 5th Circle?

The Controllers who had fallen at first had worked together to manage their magic.

Even High Circle wizards were like that, yet how could someone like him succeed in controlling the magic alone? It was almost unbelievable.

“How did that bug manage to release magic?!”

Arterion’s eyes gleamed with a thicker killing intent than ever.

The enormous magic he had poured out was dispelled. With depleted magic, it was hard to wield powerful spells.

That side had used an incredible amount of magic as well. Most of the assembled wizards must have collapsed.

However, with the remaining wizards, he should still be able to dispel his magic. He also had very little magic left.

“You bastard! How dare you!”

Consumed by rage, Arterion attempted to attack Alfoy immediately.

At that moment, Ghislaine blocked his path. He leaped towards Arterion, shouting.

“Well done! Alfoy!”

An aura blade shone more vividly than ever from Ghislaine’s sword.

“You really are…”

Ghislaine laughed heartily, swinging the aura blade fiercely.

“I am the Dragon Slayer!”

Slash!

“Ugh!”

Arterion staggered back, his chest deeply slashed. At the same time, Alfoy could no longer hold on and collapsed.

The magic that had been pressuring Arterion now dissipated. But he also didn’t have the magic left to use powerful spells.

Now he had to fight using only his body. Having even used Breath, he was becoming more exhausted.

He had found a way to create a chance for a comeback, but it had been ruined by that absurd guy interfering.

Roar!

Arterion howled, swinging his tail and claws wildly. Attacking in a fit of rage in all directions.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The power emanating from his massive body was still formidable. The superhumans confronting him were also quite worn out, forcing them to be cautious in their attacks.

Arterion was now firmly on the ground. He lacked the strength to lift his gigantic body.

Thanks to that, Belinda could rejoin the attack.

Slash!

Belinda’s dagger sliced through the air, striking Arterion.

Though the wound wasn’t deep, any attack flying toward his eyes or near the Dragon Heart was bound to be troublesome for Arterion.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Growl!

Arterion tried to use even simple spells to hold his ground. But the remaining wizards continued to unfold magic barriers, dispelling his spells.

Swish!

With the opposing wizards also fatigued, a few Lower Circle spells were cast. However, that was something the superhumans could easily dispel.

Boom!

Even though the opponent was tired, he was still a dragon. Just brushing against Arterion’s tail or claws would injure the superhumans severely.

In fact, Ghislaine had almost lost an arm when he recklessly approached.

Yet the Saint and two saint-level figures continued to pour forth their divine power.

Adding Ghislaine’s recovery factor into the mix, his arm quickly reattached and healed.

Boom! Clash! Boom!

As time passed, Arterion’s attacks began to weaken gradually.

He was tiring rapidly. His attacks grew sluggish, and his movements increasingly slower.

Still, they couldn’t let their guard down. Even if he had weakened, he was still not someone a mere human could easily withstand.

Roar!

Despite the wounds that would have killed another creature long ago, Arterion stood upright.

His eyes, filled with rage, still shone brightly, and the roar aimed at his foes was still intensely unnerving.

“Adversaries!”

Arterion now targeted only Yulien with relentless intent. He thought there was no other way.

Even if he had to die, he had to take Yulien with him.

Even the mighty Yulien could not deal with Arterion, who was throwing himself forward disregarding his own life.

He continued to avoid and slash with his sword.

Slash! Slash! Slash!

Arterion’s body was rapidly sliced in multiple places. His massive frame made it impossible to evade.

As his energy faded, his wounds deepened. Arterion grimaced in pain.

Yulien, who had been attacking continuously, stiffened his expression.

‘Why is my power…?’

Having fought for so long, fatigue was to be expected. In reality, his mana was dwindling.

Yet his physical state was the opposite. His mind was clear, and his body was brimming with vigor.

He was becoming stronger even in battle against a dragon.

‘Why?’

He had known since childhood that his growth rate was faster than that of ordinary people. However, even he had gone through his own stages of growth.

He would gain realization through training or combat, or reflecting on those processes. Based on that, he would move forward to the next stage.

But right now, there was no realization. He wasn’t learning anything, merely gaining experiences from fighting the strong. While skills could increase, gaining vitality was something entirely different.

‘This is an abnormal situation. I need to know the reason.’

Avoiding Arterion’s attacks, Yulien began to observe his surroundings and himself.

Only by concentrating his mind could he grasp the reason.

‘What is this?’

Something thread-like was seeping into his body. It was making him stronger and stronger.

He couldn’t pinpoint its exact nature yet.

‘If I observe just a bit longer, I might figure it out.’

“Adversary!”

Boom!

Arterion had somehow closed in on Yulien, swinging his claws.

“…”

Yulien barely dodged and refocused his mind on Arterion.

Now was not the time to concentrate on personal doubts. Arterion was attacking him too persistently.

‘This is actually a good thing.’

If he was growing stronger and stronger, he could fight longer.

For now, Yulien decided to focus only on attacking Arterion.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

All the superhumans had been hit by Arterion several times and fell. Each time, they had suffered severe injuries, such as their bones shattering, but thanks to divine power, they quickly recovered and survived.

With this, Parniel and Piote’s faces turned pale.

“Ugh….”

Piote was trembling, blood streaming from his nose. Parniel did not seem to be in a good state either.

The once abundant divine power was now running low. The two, possessing the most divine power on the continent, had nearly exhausted it all.

The opponent could not use magic and was already in a fatigued state, affirming his title as the strongest existence.

Roar!

Arterion roared as if he could still fight more. Everyone tensed at his formidable presence.

They too could feel the divine power’s aura decreasing. It was clear that one or two more hits could put them in danger.

“Just hold on a little longer!”

Ghislaine shouted loudly, swinging his sword.

Just a bit further, and they would manage. Though Arterion still looked intimidating, that was not the reality.

Boom!

As Ghislaine boldly approached first, Arterion’s tail struck him.

However, Ghislaine held out. He was hit hard, enough to make him cough blood, but his body didn’t shatter like before.

Even though the divine power’s support was weakening and Ghislaine’s recovery factor was dwindling, he still held on.

Arterion was clearly losing strength. It was time to execute the next plan.

Whoosh!

Ghislaine summoned several mana spears and launched them high into the sky. They did not target Arterion.

Soon after, fireworks exploded from the fortress where the remaining wizards were, lighting up the sky.

However, Arterion paid no heed to what Ghislaine was doing or what was happening around him. He was solely focused on attacking Yulien obsessively in an attempt to kill him.

Amid all the chaos, the other superhumans were diligently slicing Arterion’s body. They felt fear as they attacked, watching the scales fall off.

Amidst this frantic fighting.

Thud thud thud thud thud!

Suddenly, the sound of horse hooves echoed from all directions. Arterion finally noticed a group approaching and turned his head.

“Save the Saint!”

The ones that appeared were the priests led by Parniel and the Ruthania Army’s priests.

Other troops wouldn’t be of help in the fight against the dragon. It was difficult to successfully strike an attack from the outset.

The priests might at least be of some assistance, but they couldn’t stand too close. One wrong step could lead to their total annihilation.

Thus, the priests had been waiting from a distance until they received the signal and rushed in.

“Oh Goddess!”

Hundreds of priests released their divine power.

Suddenly, everyone’s bodies began to heal. Piote stepped back a bit, looking as if he had survived.

Their arrival meant the dragon was utterly exhausted. There was no time to attack elsewhere.

And it also meant they could entrust the role of protecting their allies to the priests.

Someone who had been suppressing their anger until now finally moved.

“Oh Goddess, today I shall send one big fellow packing.”

Boom!

Parniel, with fierce killing intent in her eyes, gripped her mace tightly.

She had held back for the success of their operation, but now there was no need to hold back.

Hitting such a massive, sturdy creature was her specialty.

Parniel dashed forward, swinging the enormous mace. Though it seemed like a toy next to the dragon’s size, it was still the most powerful weapon among their group.

Boom!

With a thunderous explosion that shook the heavens, Arterion’s body momentarily swayed.

Growl…

From the tremendous impact, Arterion let out a groan. Normally, he would have withstood it, but now he was without any scales.

As the powerful shock was inflicted upon his battered body, there was no avoiding the pain.

Clenching his teeth, Arterion whipped his tail.

Boom!

Parniel, who had rushed in too recklessly, was hit directly by the tail and knocked out cold.

No matter how sturdy she was, she wasn’t as tough as a dragon. Failing to evade, she got hit dead-on, and the fatigue-diminished Arterion’s attack shattered her bones.

Boom! Bang! Crash!

Divine power surged towards Parniel’s body as she tumbled and rolled several times. The priests poured all their divine power into Parniel while leaving everyone else behind.

After all, the most crucial person for them was the Saint.

“Ugh!”

Parniel spat blood but quickly got back onto her feet. She had nearly died but showed no fear, charging once more.

For a Saint, she was unreasonably violent.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Thanks to Parniel unleashing an intense aura, everyone regained their confidence. With her leading the charge, Arterion had no choice but to focus on Parniel.

With Parniel drawing attention and the priests pouring in divine power, everyone felt encouraged to launch bold attacks.

Despite their mana levels plummeting, Arterion’s situation was far more dire.

Ghislaine finally understood that the last moment had arrived.

“Arterion!”

As he caught Arterion’s attention, Ghislaine exploded all of his remaining mana.

Amplifying using Dark. The power re-emerged into the world.

Boom!

Ghislaine’s body enveloped in dark shadows. Only his eyes emitted a fierce red light.

He unleashed an overwhelming presence in all directions.

This was a power even Ghislaine could barely withstand. Despite using up all his mana and amplifying what little remained, it was difficult to hold on.

Seeing Ghislaine’s appearance, Arterion was thrown into confusion.

“You, you are…?”

That form… wasn’t it someone he hated so much!

“Adversaries…?”

There were now two adversaries standing before him.
