Chapter 431: Chapter 431: How Can You Resist
The enormous bedroom was brightly lit. Matthew leaned back on the spacious sofa, staring at the open wardrobe across from him. The wardrobe door was wide open, but no lights were on. The brightness from the bedroom made it impossible to see Eva Green inside; all he saw was darkness.
This wardrobe was vast, over a hundred square meters. Ever since Charlize Theron moved out, his clothes never filled the space.
Matthew patiently waited for the surprise Eva Green mentioned before she went inside.
Perhaps stimulated by Eva Green, Matthew suddenly remembered a joke he read online. A new fan asked an old fan, "Why is Eva Green always undressed?" The old fan replied, "Can you find a movie where she isn't?"
In his view, Eva Green didn't need to undress to be captivating.
She was a woman desired by werewolves, demons, vampires, zombies, and skeletons alike.
As Matthew was lost in these thoughts, he heard soft footsteps coming from the wardrobe. Eva Green slowly walked towards the doorway and stopped at the border between light and darkness.
The moment he saw her, Matthew felt his blood rush to his head. This was indeed a big surprise.
Eva Green's upper body was bare, with a white thin blanket wrapped around her lower body. Her arms were half-hidden in the darkness behind her, making it seem as if they had disappeared.
At that moment, she was like the armless Venus de Milo, and to Matthew, her body was even more artistic than the famous statue.
Venus de Milo was merely a statue to be viewed, while Eva Green's body was a living artwork, capable of providing higher pleasures.
After standing at the doorway for a while, Eva Green slowly walked towards Matthew. She wore long black gloves, and in the dark background, she indeed looked like the armless Venus de Milo.
Matthew stood up from the sofa as Eva Green stopped in front of him.
"I don't have hands," Eva Green calmly said. "I can't resist any of your advances!"
How could one resist such a devilishly sexy and queenly French woman?
It didn't take long for Matthew to confirm that Eva Green's open legs could indeed swallow the whole world.
That night, Eva Green stayed at the Horner Manor. They didn't go downstairs for dinner and only appeared in the dining room the next morning after Matthew's morning run.
Eva Green sat at the table, waiting for the servants to bring breakfast, suddenly remembering an incident from over a month ago, on April 1st, the first day of shooting for "300 Spartans." She recalled an exaggerated scene on set and later wondered if Matthew and the crew had deliberately stuffed something in the red briefs to create a selling point for the film.
After last night, she was certain that there was nothing extra in Matthew's red briefs. He was genuine inside and out.
As the servants brought breakfast, Matthew noticed Eva Green deep in thought and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Eva Green quickly snapped back to reality, smiled, and said, "Nothing."
Matthew pointed to her plate, "I asked the chef to make something simple during my morning run. See if you like it."
Although the hired chef was skilled in Western cuisine, he was best at the Eastern dishes Matthew enjoyed.
Eva Green cut a small piece of toast with jam, tasted it carefully, and said, "The jam is quite unique."
Matthew swallowed his soy milk and said, "I'm glad you like it."
Eva Green nibbled on her breakfast while chatting with Matthew, "When I woke up, you were already gone, out for a run?"
"Yes," Matthew nodded lightly. "It's a habit I've developed over the years."
Eva Green ate only a little before putting down her knife and fork, tilting her head to look at Matthew, "No wonder you keep such a good figure."
Matthew looked back at her, "You have a great figure too." He complimented, "An even greater masterpiece than Venus de Milo."
Eva Green laughed, her eyes, already noticeably smaller, almost entirely disappearing.
After a while, she suddenly recalled something from the day before yesterday and said, "Matthew, I remember at a premiere once, Harvey Weinstein approached you. Do you know him well?"
Matthew didn't understand why Eva Green suddenly mentioned Harvey Weinstein and shook his head, "Not well, we just know each other."
"Oh..." Eva Green hesitated, "Is that so..."
Seeing her hesitant expression, Matthew tentatively asked, "Did you encounter Harvey Weinstein? Did he trouble you?"
Eva Green thought for a moment and directly said, "The day before yesterday afternoon, I attended a party hosted by Edward Norton. I met Harvey Weinstein there. He said he had a lead role that was perfect for me and wanted to meet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel over the weekend to discuss the script and my role."
Matthew finished eating, put down his knife and fork, and wiped his mouth with a napkin. Eva Green asked, "I'm not sure if I should go."
"What do you think?" Matthew didn't answer but asked back, "Eva, do you want to go?"
"No!" Eva Green replied decisively. "I don't want to go at all. Harvey Weinstein harassed me at the party. I don't think he is trustworthy."
Matthew spread his hands, "Isn't the problem simple? If you don't want to go, then don't go."
Eva Green frowned slightly, "I'm a bit worried about Harvey Weinstein..."
"Harvey Weinstein is indeed influential and domineering," Matthew said bluntly, "but he can't rule Hollywood with an iron fist. If you don't want to be in the indie film scene, there's no need to worry too much."
He added, "Of course, it's best to avoid Harvey Weinstein as much as possible in the future. Don't underestimate his power."
Just like the distribution rights of "300 Spartans," he wasn't afraid of Harvey Weinstein but saw no need to provoke such a domineering producer and film company mogul without reason.
After all, Harvey Weinstein hadn't crossed his bottom line.
Eva Green then asked, "Does Harvey Weinstein have a bad reputation?"
"Very bad," Matthew didn't mince words, "He likes to call actresses to his hotel room for auditions and then make advances. It's no secret in the industry."
Eva Green sighed, "Just as chaotic as the European film industry."
Matthew shook his head, "Probably not much different worldwide. Most of Hollywood operates on mutual consent, but Harvey Weinstein is different; he forces himself on actresses."
"Hasn't anyone reported him or exposed him?" Eva Green asked.
"No, at least I haven't heard of it," Matthew replied. "Most people think of their careers and choose to endure."
From what he had heard, Harvey Weinstein mainly targeted actresses without power or fame. If he did something to someone like Gwyneth Paltrow, there would be significant repercussions unless he compensated accordingly, as she could cause huge trouble if she made a fuss.
Treating powerful actresses with rewards and the powerless with empty promises and coercion was Harvey Weinstein's usual tactic, according to Matthew.
Many people in the industry knew about it, including Harvey Weinstein's friends like Quentin Tarantino, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon, but no one leaked it out of their own accord. No one wanted to start a war with such a Hollywood mogul without sufficient benefits.
Those who endured the abuse seemed unworthy of sympathy.
But in this society, many things don't gain attention just by speaking out loudly. The influence of a call from a powerful person can outweigh the impact of a victim's drastic actions.
Such coercion was not unique to Hollywood; it was widespread across North America, from business to politics to the media. How many such cases ever come to light?
Matthew wasn't a good person and despised such lowly actions, but as long as they didn't touch his interests, he would treat them as rumors. Without sufficient benefits, who would want to confront Harvey Weinstein head-on?
He wasn't a saint. In the USA, self-preservation came first.
As for saving actresses from harassment? Such a noble mission should be left to God.
After all, he was destined for hell and wouldn't likely meet the merciful God.
After breakfast, Matthew drove Eva Green out of the estate, asking, "Where are you going? Home?"
Eva Green tilted her head, looking at Matthew, and after thinking for a moment, said, "I have nothing to do at home. I'm joining the crew next week. How about I go to the set with you and get used to the working environment?" She added, "You don't mind, do you?"
Matthew smiled, "How could I mind? I'd be delighted."
The Mercedes SUV left Beverly Hills, and Eva Green asked, "Do you have time this weekend?"
"Yes," Matthew turned the wheel, merging onto the road to Burbank. He glanced at Eva Green and asked, "Do you have plans?"
"I want to spend the weekend with you," Eva Green said directly. "I called Edward Norton yesterday. Harvey Weinstein got my number from him, and I'm worried he might continue to harass me."
Matthew nodded, "As long as you want, I can be with you anytime."
