18: Introducing the Members
Inside the theater.
The Troupe Leader introduced the next person.
That is, the gentleman in formal attire next to the Deceiver.
“This is also one of our troupe members. You can call him the Gentleman. He doesn’t have particularly outstanding performance skills, but is generally used to maintain order during performances, making troublemakers more polite.”
The Gentleman nodded to Ye Xing, maintaining a polite smile, indeed easily winning the audience’s favor.
Ye Xing, however, associated this with something else.
I see, like a security guard?
But this Gentleman doesn’t seem to have any intimidating presence at all. Can he really keep things under control?
“Hmm…”
And he’s smiling very friendlily, looking quite handsome. I guess it’s to teach troublemakers not to hit someone with a smile on their face?
Ye Xing suddenly understood.
He’d rather risk being beaten up to maintain order during the performance.
Gentleman, my superman!
“Hm?” The Gentleman smiled at Ye Xing, who seemed to be lost in thought, feeling that she might be thinking about something impolite.
After the Troupe Leader introduced the two, Ye Xing finally couldn’t help but ask: “Mr. Deceiver, Mr. Gentleman, I think we’ve met before, haven’t we?”
The Gentleman nodded, narrowing his eyes.
“Yes, you accidentally bumped into me, but you were very polite. It left a deep impression on me.”
Ye Xing pondered for a moment, then said: “Hmm… I didn’t expect you to be in the same troupe as the Troupe Leader.”
“Perhaps this is the arrangement of fate,” the Gentleman said while looking at the Troupe Leader, seemingly asking with his eyes why he had brought a silver-haired young girl here.
The Troupe Leader understood his meaning and began to explain: “She is a rare audience member who appreciates and respects my performance. I can feel the joy and delight in her heart, which is uncommon. So I brought her here to watch your performances as well, believing you will feel the same joy.”
The Deceiver and the Gentleman nodded, showing some interest.
“I see, so she’s a lady who enjoys watching performances?”
“I’m just a little interested, that’s all…”
Ye Xing was just a young girl who was easily satisfied.
If people thought she really understood these performances and asked her to explain anything, she wouldn’t be able to say anything at all.
At most, she’d say “Wow, awesome!” and that would be it.
The Deceiver chuckled lightly: “In that case, let me give you an impromptu performance.”
Then he took out a large black cloth from behind his back and casually threw it over the Gentleman’s head, covering his figure.
“Hmm…”
Seeing the Deceiver begin his performance, Ye Xing stared intently at the black cloth, not daring to blink.
Since this masked man is called the Deceiver, he must be very good at tricking people.
Perhaps through language, or maybe through body movements, attracting the audience’s attention, and then using some mechanism or trick to complete the performance the moment the audience is distracted.
Ye Xing believed she had seen through it completely!
No matter what the Deceiver did, she absolutely wouldn’t be distracted. She would just stare fixedly at the black cloth, and wouldn’t be tricked!
“Quite serious, indeed. As expected of an audience member chosen by the Troupe Leader.” The Deceiver smiled mysteriously and lifted the black cloth from the Gentleman.
“Stare——“
Ye Xing’s eyes widened slightly as she looked at the figure revealed under the black cloth, and she was stunned the next second.
Shocking!
The Gentleman had turned into the Troupe Leader!
“Oh my, that’s amazing!”
Ye Xing couldn’t help but applaud, her eyes shining brightly.
The impact of watching such a performance up close, without any behind-the-scenes manipulation, was indeed enormous.
After about ten seconds, Ye Xing realized something was wrong.
“Wait.”
She looked at the Troupe Leader beside her, then at the Troupe Leader next to the Deceiver, and a question mark appeared above her head.
“Why are there two Troupe Leaders?”
Logic error occurred.
Then Ye Xing found that the person next to the Deceiver had turned back into the Gentleman.
The Gentleman sighed and shook his head.
“Using someone as a prop for a performance without permission is impolite.”
“I apologize, I’ll be more mindful in the future.” The Deceiver smiled lightly, taking back the black cloth.
Then he looked at Ye Xing, who hadn’t yet reacted, revealing a pleased smile.
Indeed, a rare audience member.
“Hmm…” Ye Xing was still in a state of self-doubt.
What just happened?
Was she tricked?
Or did she fall under some illusion?
When was she tricked?
That’s incredible!
Then the Deceiver gave a slight bow to Ye Xing.
“Thank you for watching my performance. What did you think?”
“It was magical, absolutely brilliant.”
“Thank you for the compliment.”
“Can you tell me how you did it?”
“I’m sorry, that’s a trade secret. You were deceived by me.”
“Hmm, so I was tricked after all…” Ye Xing showed a disappointed expression.
She had watched so attentively, trying her best to concentrate, but still ended up being tricked.
The Deceiver is indeed a dangerous person!
Ye Xing had already raised her mental alert level for the Deceiver to the highest degree.
“Oh, right.”
At this point, Ye Xing noticed another issue.
“Troupe Leader, didn’t you say there were five members in the troupe? Where are the other two?”
“Those two are not in good condition, but I’ll still take you to meet them.”
Not in good condition?
Are they sick?
Ye Xing followed with a puzzled heart.
“That one is the Puppeteer.”
Ye Xing looked in the direction the Troupe Leader indicated and saw a small figure sitting near the corner.
Looking closely, it seemed to be a little girl about her own age, holding something in her hand, appearing to be in a daze.
“What’s wrong with her?” Ye Xing asked curiously.
“Her beloved puppet was damaged by someone. She’s in a very bad mood, and we can’t fix the puppet, so she’s been like this ever since. In the past, she could have performed a wonderful puppet show for you, but now… it’s better if you don’t get too close to her.”
“Hmm…”
Ye Xing continued to stare at the dazed Puppeteer girl, with a voice in her heart telling her to cheer up this young girl.
But could she, who didn’t know how to comfort girls, really do it?
Next, Ye Xing followed the Troupe Leader to another place.
There was something very tall here, seemingly a prop needed for stage plays. A beam of light shone on the top, revealing an ethereal, slender figure.
She sat at the top, gazing in the direction of the light source, occasionally opening her small mouth as if about to make some sound.
The Troupe Leader introduced: “This child was picked up by me from outside. You can call her the Singer. At that time, she was wandering in the city, seemingly having forgotten everything about herself. I thought her voice was beautiful, so I brought her back, wanting her to be the troupe’s singer, but from the current situation, it doesn’t seem to be going well.”
The girl sitting at the top didn’t seem to notice the Troupe Leader and Ye Xing, as if ignoring them completely.
“This person…”
Ye Xing also felt an ominous feeling from this girl, as if… she was like a phantom about to disappear.
If the Troupe Leader hadn’t told her that this was a real member, she would have almost thought it was a virtual projection.
Ye Xing increasingly felt that the members of this Rising Sun Troupe were stranger than the last.
