Chapter 18: Chapter 18: The Edge of the Web

I didn't feel like myself anymore.

Swinging through the neon-lit streets of Manhattan, I could feel the symbiote's whispers lingering in the back of my mind, gnawing at my sanity. It wasn't just a voice now—it was a presence, lurking in the shadows of my thoughts, watching, waiting.

"Why do you fight us, Parker?"

I perched on a water tower, breathing heavily, gripping my mask like it was the only thing keeping me from falling apart.

This wasn't a fight against some thug or supervillain.

This was a fight against myself.

Earlier that day, Midtown High.

MJ caught me at my locker, her expression unreadable but definitely concerned. "Alright, Tiger, spill. You've been on another planet for the last week, and I'm getting worried."

I hesitated, rubbing the back of my neck. "It's… complicated, MJ."

She crossed her arms. "Try me."

I sighed. "It's just… things are piling up. School, home, life in general. I don't want you to worry."

MJ raised an eyebrow. "Too late for that."

I forced a smile, but inside I felt like I was cracking. "I'll be okay. Promise."

Her eyes softened. "You don't have to do everything alone, Peter."

I wanted to believe that. I really did.

Later, at Stark Tower…

Tony was in full lecture mode.

"You do realize you can't keep running on fumes, right?" he said, pacing the lab while I sat on the examination table. "You've been acting reckless. And newsflash, the bad guys are noticing."

I sighed. "I get it, Tony. I just… I don't know what's wrong with me."

Tony studied me for a moment, his usual snark absent. "You're dealing with something big, kid. But I need to know you can handle it."

I looked away. "I can."

Tony didn't believe me. And honestly? Neither did I.

Oscorp Industrial Complex – Midnight.

Daredevil and I crouched on the roof of an Oscorp storage facility, the night air thick with tension.

"This is their last major shipment," Daredevil whispered. "Osborn's moving the symbiotes somewhere off-grid."

I nodded. "Then let's shut it down."

We slipped in through a side vent, moving with practiced silence. The storage bay was massive, rows of black canisters lined up like some twisted assembly line.

And then I felt it.

The symbiote.

It was here.

The air was heavy with something… wrong. My spider-sense flared violently, but I felt the darkness inside me stir in response.

"We are close…"

I shook it off and focused.

"Karen, scan for anomalies," I whispered.

"Multiple heat signatures detected, Peter. Movement incoming."

Great. I webbed up to the ceiling as Oscorp security moved in, rifles at the ready.

Daredevil whispered from the shadows. "We take them down quietly."

"Copy that," I muttered, dropping silently behind one of the guards and webbing him to a crate.

Daredevil took down another with a precise strike to the throat. We moved like ghosts, taking them out one by one—until the room was clear.

And then the floor rumbled.

A low growl echoed through the bay.

My heart stopped.

From the darkness emerged Venom.

It was bigger, meaner, and it knew I was here. "Parker," it growled, that horrifying grin stretching across its monstrous face. "You cannot resist us."

I swallowed hard. "Well, I'm gonna try!"

Venom lunged. I flipped backward, webbing a container to throw it in his path, but he tore through it like paper. Daredevil moved in, striking fast, but Venom's tendrils lashed out, slamming him into a wall.

I gritted my teeth. "Karen, options!"

"Fire suppression system detected."

"Perfect." I fired a web at the nearest panel and triggered the sprinklers. Water rained down, causing Venom to screech in rage, his form flickering and writhing.

"Not a fan of water, huh?" I taunted, using the distraction to web him up. "You should stay hydrated!"

Venom broke free with a roar, grabbing me mid-air and slamming me into the floor. My vision blurred as the symbiote's whispers returned, stronger now.

"Let us in… we can win…"

I gasped, struggling, but its grip tightened. For a split second, I could feel it. The hunger. The rage.

Daredevil's voice cut through the haze. "Parker! Fight it!"

I clenched my jaw, forcing my mind back into focus. With a grunt, I webbed Venom's face and kicked off his chest, breaking free.

Daredevil was already back on his feet. He tossed me a baton. "Use it."

I caught it and smashed it against the nearest generator, creating an electrical surge that hit Venom head-on.

The symbiote shrieked, retreating into the shadows.

I panted, leaning against a crate. "Okay… that was close."

Daredevil gave me a look. "Too close."

I nodded. "Yeah… let's get out of here."

Back at Stark Tower…

Tony watched the footage of our fight, shaking his head. "You're pushing yourself too hard, Parker. This thing is wearing you down."

I rubbed my temples. "I can handle it."

Tony crossed his arms. "I've heard that before."

Daredevil stepped in. "You need help, Peter. Before it's too late."

I wanted to argue, but I couldn't. The truth was, I was slipping.

I sighed. "Okay. What's the plan?"

Tony smirked. "First, you get some rest. Then… we take the fight to Osborn."

I nodded. "Sounds good."

Meanwhile, at Oscorp…

Norman Osborn stood in the shadows of his penthouse office, watching the city skyline with a glass of whiskey in hand.

Dr. Octavius stood beside him, analyzing data on a tablet. "Spider-Man is resisting the symbiote's influence… but it won't last."

Osborn smirked. "No, it won't. He'll break eventually."

He turned to the containment unit, where the remaining symbiote samples pulsed ominously.

"And when he does… he'll be ours."
