Chapter 122: Chapter 57: Research Results
Otogakure.
Still Kimimaro.
"Please follow me. Orochimaru-sama has been waiting for you." Kimimaro led the way, but this time, instead of heading to the underground laboratory, they walked toward a forest adjacent to Otogakure.
Crunch, crunch, crunch!
Samehada trembled excitedly on Kisame's back.
"Oh, this forest isn't ordinary."
"Looks like Orochimaru has succeeded, huh?" Kisame, through Samehada, sharply sensed the chakra emanating from the forest. This wasn't a naturally occurring phenomenon—it was clearly created by Mokuton.
The three advanced until they reached a clearing where three figures stood: Orochimaru, Uzumaki Yusuke, and Sasori.
Oh, correction—Sasori, who was controlling Hiruko, was crouched low.
"Sasori, you're finally showing yourself?"
"Long time no see." Deidara greeted him cheerfully.
"Deidara, so you're paired with Kisame now? What about Itachi? Don't tell me he's dead?" Sasori inquired.
"He's a bit under the weather and recovering," Deidara replied.
"Alright, let's skip the idle chatter," Orochimaru interjected eagerly.
"Deidara, come and witness my masterpiece."
Uzumaki Yusuke, shirtless, turned around, revealing a face growing on his chest—the unmistakable visage of Senju Hashirama. It seemed that the integration of Hashirama cells had reached an advanced stage.
Even more eye-catching were Yusuke's three-tomoe Sharingan, exuding a faint sense of oppression and the unique elegance and mystery of the Sharingan.
"Yusuke, give them a demonstration," Orochimaru commanded, licking his lips in anticipation. His voice carried an unsettling mix of softness and excitement.
"Yes, Orochimaru-sama!" Yusuke responded with unwavering respect.
Clapping his hands together, Yusuke shouted:
"Mokuton: Birth of a Small Forest!"
Though a simplified version of the legendary Mokuton: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees, it was still an impressive display.
Countless saplings burst from the ground, growing rapidly into towering trees. Within moments, the clearing was transformed into a dense forest. The canopy blocked out the sunlight, plunging the area into darkness.
"How's that?" Orochimaru asked from atop a tree trunk.
Deidara released several clay insects, which climbed the tree trunks and detonated. The resulting explosions left only superficial damage.
"The defense is impressive. B-rank jutsu and below likely won't penetrate this, and standard weaponry is almost useless," Deidara evaluated.
It was comparable to the Mokuton used by Obito back then, though Obito hadn't gone all out at the time.
Crunch, crunch, crunch!
Feeling Samehada's excited vibrations on his back, Kisame removed it and pressed it against one of the massive trees, allowing it to absorb the Mokuton chakra.
"This is the first time I've seen Samehada this thrilled. Even bijuu chakra didn't excite it like this," Kisame remarked with a grin.
Seeing the group's approval, Orochimaru allowed a rare smile to surface.
"We're not done yet. I have more to show you," he said.
"Yusuke!"
"Yes, Orochimaru-sama!"
Suddenly, four chakra chains sprouted from Yusuke's back, slicing through the Mokuton forest effortlessly, as if the massive trees were made of tofu.
"Adamantine Sealing Chains, the Uzumaki clan's signature ability—one could even call it a kekkei genkai. Only about one in ten pure-blooded Uzumaki can awaken this power. But after integrating the First Hokage's cells, Yusuke awakened it with ease."
"Incredible," Deidara muttered. It was unclear whether he was praising Yusuke or the Hashirama cells.
"And that's not all. Yusuke is only ten years old. As he grows, his Mokuton will become even stronger. While he may not reach the First Hokage's level, he'll surpass most Kage-level shinobi."
"Combine that with the Sharingan and the Uzumaki clan's sealing techniques…"
"Yusuke is practically a perfect creation—except for the Mangekyo Sharingan," Orochimaru said, his tongue darting out to lick his lips in delight.
The group collectively recoiled at his behavior, except for Yusuke, who seemed overjoyed.
"With this, I can finally become Orochimaru-sama's vessel! This is wonderful!"
Deidara nodded. Sharingan, Mokuton, and Uzumaki sealing techniques—what a terrifying combination.
And with Orochimaru's continued research, Yusuke's power would only grow. If the mysteries of the Mangekyo Sharingan were unraveled, the results would be unimaginable.
But that wasn't the priority right now.
"So, Orochimaru, have you created universally compatible Hashirama cells?"
"After all, I've been waiting for my payment for quite some time," Deidara said, clearly eager to enhance Nagato following his fallout with Obito.
"Of course." Orochimaru spat out a vial of green liquid and handed it to Deidara.
"Though I have no idea who you're planning to use this on…"
"But if it's Uchiha Itachi, it's currently impossible."
Deidara frowned. Using a clay serpent to grasp the saliva-coated vial, he hesitated for a moment. Kisame couldn't help but ask, "Why can't Itachi use it?"
"These cells are derived from the Uzumaki clan's constitution. For a true universal type, I'll need more time." Orochimaru smirked, his tone laced with amusement.
"Especially for someone like Uchiha Itachi, whose weak constitution from his kekkei disease makes him incompatible. Injecting such domineering cells would only backfire."
"Take Kimimaro, for instance. I haven't given him the cells either."
Orochimaru's sharp insight was evident. Though no one had mentioned Itachi's condition, he deduced it from subtle clues. Kisame sighed in acknowledgment of Orochimaru's reasoning.
"Hey, Deidara, what are you doing?" Kisame exclaimed, noticing Deidara pressing the last bit of sticky clay against Samehada.
"I'm just letting it taste Orochimaru's chakra," Deidara replied nonchalantly.
"Samehada doesn't seem to like it much."
Samehada: "…"
Retrieving the disgusted-looking Samehada, Kisame grumbled, "Deidara, don't do weird things to my loyal partner."
Deidara shrugged and turned to Sasori.
"Sasori, how's your research going? Don't tell me you've also got a Hashirama face on your chest?"
"Boring!" Hiruko's tail pushed Deidara aside as Sasori disappeared into the dense forest.
"I have one last thing to finish," he said.
"It won't be long, Deidara, before I show you what true art looks like—art that is eternal!"
