Chapter 7: Luo Ling
At noon, the sun was blazing. Zombies generally didn't appear at this time. Ke Bei managed to reach Chenzhai without major incidents, though with some scares along the way.
"This isn't right."
Ke Bei hid in a dilapidated attic that was three stories high and had no roof. Frowning, he looked towards the nearly a thousand red-haired zombies surging in from the due north direction like a red cloud. A chill ran down his spine, and his eyes were filled with confusion and astonishment.
"What on earth is going on?" Ke Bei's face was serious.
"There shouldn't be so many red-haired zombies in Chenzhai Town, especially now."
"It's noon, and the sun is scorching. Generally, zombies won't move around at this time. It's already a rare thing to see a dozen or so red-haired zombies wandering around in the sun. Now, such a large number of zombies appearing all at once is definitely not normal."
Ke Bei lowered his body even more. He tightly gripped the thick simple saber in one hand. Due to excessive nervousness, a large amount of sweat oozed from his palm. In the other hand, he held a three-inch-long willow-leaf-shaped flying dagger.
"Purple... purple-haired zombie."
Ke Bei's face turned pale. He took a sharp intake of breath, his expression filled with extreme fear. Instantly, his body was soaked in cold sweat.
As the zombie horde kept approaching, he suddenly noticed a flash of purple emerge from among the red-haired zombies. The figure moved nimbly and in the blink of an eye, it appeared at the front of the zombie horde.
"That's right, it's really a purple-haired zombie..."
Ke Bei tightly bit his lips, and his body uncontrollably trembled.
The lowest-level red-haired zombies already had three times the strength of an ordinary human, and their defensive power was astonishing. If he didn't hit their vital parts, even if they stood still, Ke Bei couldn't cut through them.
One level higher than the red-haired zombies were the green-haired zombies. The green-haired zombies, covered all over with green fur, had terrifying strength, equivalent to a full nine times that of a human. Their body's defensive power was even one level stronger than that of the red-haired zombies. If Ke Bei encountered a green-haired zombie, there would be only one outcome for him: death.
Because with his current strength, even if he could hit the vital part of a green-haired zombie with a flying dagger, it wouldn't cause any harm to it. Moreover, the green-haired zombies were very fast, even not slower than a first-level gene enhancer when they unleashed their full strength. If Ke Bei encountered one, he wouldn't be able to escape.
What about the purple-haired zombies?
They were even more terrifying existences than the green-haired zombies, the most top-level existences among zombies. Not only did they have twenty-seven times the strength of an ordinary human, but their defensive power was also extremely strong. Ordinary attacks couldn't even leave a white mark on their bodies. What was even more terrifying was that the purple-haired zombies had already evolved a simple form of intelligence.
Boom boom boom.
Dust flew up, and the sky became even darker.
Led by the purple-haired zombie, nearly a thousand red-haired zombies swept in mightily. Wherever they passed, the originally dilapidated buildings were completely turned into ruins.
They were getting closer, closer and closer.
The zombie horde was less than a hundred meters away from the attic where Ke Bei was located.
Ke Bei held his breath. His heart was pounding like a drum, and it almost felt like it was going to jump out of his chest.
"What should I do? What should I do?"
At this moment, all kinds of thoughts flashed rapidly through his mind, and familiar faces appeared before his eyes. Ke Bei really couldn't think of any possibility of surviving.
Roar roar~ Ao~ Aowu.
"Am I going to die?"
Listening to the deafening roars ringing in his ears and looking at the zombie horde that was less than ten meters away from him and could engulf him in an instant, Ke Bei stared blankly at the gray sky with a bitter smile on his face. The sudden change had come so quickly that he didn't have time to make any preparations at all.
"Father..."
The image in Ke Bei's mind finally froze on the bearded man. Listening to the rumbling sounds in his ears, Ke Bei suddenly stood up.
If he had to die, he would die heroically.
Tightly gripping the simple saber left by his bearded father, Ke Bei looked down at the dense mass of zombies below.
"Let's fight."
With a low growl in his heart, Ke Bei was about to throw the flying dagger in his palm. But the next moment, Ke Bei suddenly stopped and looked up at the sky in surprise.
A strange chill suddenly enveloped the area. It was as if countless ice crystals were floating in the air. Ke Bei shivered violently. The chill seeped into his body, making his body tremble uncontrollably. His hand holding the knife shook, and the three-inch-long willow-leaf-shaped flying dagger fell to the ground with a "snap".
A black figure suddenly appeared above the zombie horde like a celestial being. The person wasn't too far away from Ke Bei, so Ke Bei clearly saw that the person was a woman.
She was wearing a black tight-fitting battle robe. Her long purple hair danced in the wind. She had a slender figure and held a thin, translucent long sword that was as thin as a cicada's wing in her hand.
The woman stood calmly in the sky. Her indifferent face revealed a solemn killing intent.
Woo woo~~
The bloodthirsty and crazy red-haired zombies felt that strange chill and let out uneasy whines.
The woman's graceful figure suddenly moved. The translucent long sword in her fair palm was suddenly covered with a layer of fine ice crystals. With a gentle wave of her delicate hand, the long sword drew an arc, and dozens of red-haired zombies around her were instantly sent flying. Their ferocious heads flew up as well, and fine ice shards remained at their necks.
With a simple gesture, dozens of zombies completely lost their lives.
"This is too terrifying."
Ke Bei suddenly took a sharp intake of breath. The mysterious woman who had suddenly appeared was extremely powerful.
"Roar."
The purple-haired zombie at the front of the zombie horde let out a shrill roar. Its body covered with purple fur suddenly shot up. After a few leaps, it jumped in front of the woman.
Its claws glowing with a faint light tore through the air and frantically attacked the woman all around.
"Pu pu pu~~~"
The woman looked coldly at the purple-haired zombie. The long sword in her hand danced rapidly and collided fiercely with the zombie's claws.
The long sword moved vertically and horizontally, and the chill filled the air. Every time they clashed, a large number of red-haired zombies around them would fall.
"Aowu."
The purple-haired zombie stared fixedly at the woman with its eyes that were blood-red and had a strange purple glow. Its fangs suddenly grew a foot longer, and its palm covered with purple fur slammed heavily onto the woman's long sword.
"Peng."
A huge force was transmitted through the long sword to the woman's delicate body.
With a tap of her toes on the ground, the woman's body involuntarily slid backward more than ten meters. A trace of bright red blood oozed from her thin lips.
The woman's body didn't stop until it hit the attic where Ke Bei was located. Ke Bei was completely stunned when he saw the several deep and shocking wounds on the woman's back.
"She, she is actually already so seriously injured." Ke Bei's eyes widened.
"With such serious injuries on her body, she still dares to fight with the purple-haired zombie. This... this woman is too tough."
Ke Bei couldn't find any words to describe the shock in his heart.
The woman turned around and expressionlessly glanced at Ke Bei, then charged towards the purple-haired zombie again with an indifferent look.
Boom boom boom boom boom.
The woman's long sword covered with ice crystals clashed violently with the purple-haired zombie.
The purple-haired zombie and the woman fought from the front of the zombie horde to the back, and then from the back to the front. Wherever the battle passed, it was as if a road roller had swept through, and countless red-haired zombies lost their lives under the woman's sword.
Her purple hair fluttered wildly. The woman's face was as pale as gold paper. The fierce clashes made her already seriously injured body even more haggard. Her delicate figure was like a catkin in the wind, as if it could fall at any moment, but she still didn't fall. Instead, as the long sword danced, she continuously reaped the lives of a large number of red-haired zombies.
Half an hour passed. Although neither the purple-haired zombie nor the woman could defeat the other, more than half of the nearly a thousand red-haired zombies had already died under the woman's sword.
The woman's sword moves were sharp and fierce, and they carried a cold chill. The purple-haired zombie, on the other hand, had immense strength and a body as hard as iron. Although it seemed that they were evenly matched, Ke Bei was still worried about the woman.
He knew that the woman was seriously injured. If she didn't have any more powerful trump cards and things continued like this, would this extraordinary and brave woman ultimately not be able to escape disaster?
Sure enough, as Ke Bei had expected, after the woman in the black battle robe clashed head-on with the purple-haired zombie again, her body staggered back a few steps, almost falling. A mouthful of blood suddenly spurted out from her mouth.
"Ao~"
Seeing the woman suddenly spitting out blood, the purple-haired zombie let out an excited roar. Its huge body suddenly leaped up, and its dark claws swiped towards the woman's neck.
"Humph."
The woman in black let out a disdainful cold snort. The temperature around suddenly dropped, and the chilling aura became even stronger. The woman's eyes turned a translucent white.
"How can a mere purple-haired zombie do anything to me?"
The woman's eyes turned a pure white. The long sword in her hand stabbed out rapidly. A circle of white mist formed on the tip of the thin sword that was as thin as a wing. The extremely cold aura seemed to have frozen the air.
"Die."
The woman's delicate eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and her face became even paler. The long sword in her hand whipped out a whirlwind and flew out.
The long sword covered with ice crystals carried a crazy howling sound and swept towards the purple-haired zombie violently.
Wherever the long sword with a circle of white mist passed, all the red-haired zombies were completely cut down by the cold long sword. There were fine ice crystals at the wounds, and they lost their lives completely without leaving a single drop of blood.
The purple-haired zombie stared fixedly at the long sword hidden in the white mist with its scarlet eyes. It let out a deafening roar. All the purple fur on its body stood up one by one like steel needles. The muscles all over its body instantly tensed up, and its defensive power reached its limit. Then it charged towards the long sword frantically.
"Boom."
A harsh sound of metal clashing resounded through the sky. The woman's long sword, which was sharp enough to easily break metal and stone, was actually stuck in the purple-haired zombie's muscles.
"Roar~"
The purple-haired zombie ignored the long sword stuck in its body. With a roar, it pounced towards the woman ferociously.
Its white fangs protruded, and its claws with a dark luster also extended.
The woman's face was deathly pale. Her body swayed a few times, as if she could fall at any moment. But in the face of the purple-haired zombie that was pouncing towards her with a ferocious expression, she didn't show the slightest fear. Her expression remained calm.
"Explode."
Just as the purple-haired zombie's fangs were about to touch her body, the woman stared at the long sword stuck in the zombie's chest and shouted in a deep voice.
"Boom."
With the woman's cold shout, the purple-haired zombie suddenly stopped moving. A thick white mist suddenly exploded at the place where the long sword was stuck in its chest. The white mist exuding a cold and icy aura enveloped the purple-haired zombie. In an instant, the purple-haired zombie was frozen into an ice sculpture.
"Ka ka~~"
A rustling sound was heard. The purple-haired zombie covered with a layer of ice crystals shattered into countless pieces like glass, glistening all over the ground.
"Pu~"
Just as the purple-haired zombie shattered into ice cubes, the woman finally couldn't hold back her injuries anymore. She suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood. The scarlet and dazzling bloodstains dyed the black battle robe a dark red.
"Am I, Luo Ling, going to die at the hands of these red-haired zombies today?"
The woman's face was deathly pale, without a trace of blood. Her white teeth tightly bit her dry and chapped lips. There was a hint of self-mockery and helplessness on her delicate face. She was very clear about her injuries. Her body, which was already on the verge of exhaustion, had now reached its limit.
Luo Ling felt that her vision suddenly became blurred, and her hands and feet gradually became uncontrollable. Suddenly, everything seemed to spin around her. Luo Ling staggered a few steps and fell heavily to the ground.
"Roar~ Aowu~"
Affected by the battle between Luo Ling and the purple-haired zombie, the zombie horde had now shrunk significantly. Originally, there were about a thousand zombies, but now there were only two or three hundred left.
The red-haired zombies seemed to be very afraid of Luo Ling. Although Luo Ling had fainted to the ground at this moment, the red-haired zombies still didn't dare to approach. But they were reluctant to just leave like this. So one by one, the zombies kept roaring, moving slowly, and gradually getting closer to the unconscious Luo Ling.
"This is bad."
Ke Bei, who was lying on the roof of the attic, looked at the zombies getting closer to Luo Ling and secretly exclaimed.
"Should I save her or not?"
Ke Bei was very torn. If it weren't for the woman's sudden appearance, he might already be dead by now. Now that the woman was in danger, if he didn't save her, he would feel guilty for the rest of his life. But if he saved her, both of them might die.
"Anyway, you saved my life. I can't just turn around and run away. I, Ke Bei, can't do that."
A determined look suddenly flashed in Ke Bei's eyes. He slowly stood up. Although his reason told him to turn around and leave, his emotions couldn't accept it.
"A man should live his life without regrets. Running away in a cowardly way is not what I, Ke Bei, want."
"If I die here today, it's my fate, and I will have no regrets."
Whoosh.
A flying dagger suddenly shot out, and the red-haired zombie closest to Luo Ling fell to the ground with a thud. Ke Bei had made his move.
