The System Awakens: Rise of the Champion

"My dear boy, it's in your best interest to choose us and not the others," said the god of creation, Brahma.

"They are anything but good..."

"And I suppose you guys are the good guys," Damian said with a snort. His earlier concern vanished as if it had never been there.

After learning about the gods from the memories of the beings he had devoured, he now knew everything about most of them.

He also understood that gods held no real authority within the Tower Realms.

Even the charm they had tried using on him, an attempt to put him under their compulsion, was only permitted because gods were allowed to test mortals if they were considering offering discipleship.

However, even during such tests, they weren't allowed to use excessive power or they would be punished by the system.

That, along with the fact that this particular group of gods seemed rather outgoing, meant Damian no longer felt intimidated by them.

There was also a feeling in the back of his mind, a certainty, that he never needed to be concerned about the gods or what they represented.

In fact, the gods were of little or no concern to him at all.

He didn't know why he felt this way, but the feeling was strong, and he had always trusted his instincts.

He was willing to trust them again.

"Believe it or not, we are not like other gods… We are some of the few who truly believe in maintaining peace, at least from time to time," said Brahma, the Hindu god of creation.

"Forgive me for asking again, but why are you here? What do you want from me? And if you're really here to offer me discipleship, I'm not interested in accepting," Damian said, taking his seat again at the dining table beside Elfie.

"You're seriously rejecting an offer from the gods?" Freya asked, not seeming to mind that Damian was treating them with far less reverence than one would expect.

"Yeah… I have the memories of hundreds of demons and even an ancient fallen angel. From their memories, I know that every time a mortal gets involved with a god, nothing good ever comes of it. I don't intend to be a part of that," Damian snorted.

The gods looked at one another, seemingly unsure of what to do next.

Before they could even speak, Damian had already rejected them outright.

"Why don't you just hear us out before rejecting our offer?" the goddess Nike said.

"Fine then," Damian agreed, sighing.

"It's not like I have anything better to do, like planning to conquer my world and biblical Hell, right? Sure, let's talk."

"There are two reasons why we're seeking you," Freya explained calmly.

"First, we want to make you our disciple, because that would prevent the more malevolent gods from seeking you out. And second, we want to put an end to the war that's been brewing in the shadows between the godly pantheons of the lower worlds. By making you our disciple, we hope you'll help us in the Tower Realms."

"That just sounds like a drag. I don't want to get involved in some divine conflict. I don't want to waste my time working for you gods. Why are you even coming to me with this? Can't you find some other mortal, someone more powerful than me in the higher Tower Realms?" Damian asked, clearly annoyed.

"We would have, but none displayed such overwhelming potential as you did. To be frank, I don't think even gods have grown as much as you have in such a short time," said Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, noticing the unconcerned expression on Damian's face.

"You're new to the world inside the Tower, so I guess it's understandable that you don't recognize your own strength since you haven't met anyone capable of pushing you to your limits," said Hathor, the Egyptian goddess.

"I do understand my strength. Yes, it's true I haven't met anyone able to push me to my limits, actually not even close. Even that noble vampire I fought in the war—I didn't need to use more than a fourth of my power to defeat her," Damian replied.

"To put your power into perspective, let me tell you something," Nike, the goddess of victory, continued.

"The one you killed was one of the five Vampire Countesses. While she was the weakest among them, she was still powerful. The Vampire Countesses all possess the power to destroy nations. Their power levels easily rival that of high-level demigods. And the noble vampire class among them? Their strength can rival that of low-level gods. You might be even stronger than her. Now do you understand why we came seeking you?"

"Is this a joke or something? I'm at the level of a god? That sounds ridiculous," Damian snorted, unable to believe her words.

"It's true... and trust me, we didn't think your power level would be that high either. But as gods, our divine vision can reveal the truth of the worlds. We can see the aura inside your vessel, and believe me when I say—you have already achieved the power level of a god," Nike, the Doeress of Victory, replied.

Damian still didn't believe them. In fact, from the beginning, he had never believed anything the gods told him.

He had seen enough about them through the memories of the beings he had devoured.

Unwilling to accept their words, Damian chose instead to delve into the memories of the demons and fallen angels he had consumed.

His consciousness quickly slipped into a white void located within his inner world—a space of endless white, save for the dozens of shelves stacked beside and atop one another.

Damian willed for the memories related to the gods and higher-realm beings.

Instantly, a book flew out from a random row and shelf, landing in his hand.

It opened on its own, and in the next moment, knowledge of their power, abilities, and true strength flooded into his mind.

All of it happened in an instant.

And in the next instant, Damian's eyes snapped open, shock written across his face.

He looked at the gods with wide eyes and thought, "These gods… they're telling the truth… I really do have the power level of a god."

His power truly was in the realm of the divine.

Without hesitation, Damian opened his status screen to confirm it for himself.
