Chapter 133
The first thought that crossed my mind upon receiving the proposal.
What does it even mean to “claim” me?
“I am not anyone’s possession. From the very beginning, is there anyone in this world who could truly hold me?”
No one claims the sun as their own.
Similarly, to “own” the great Villainous Noblewoman that is me is, physically speaking, an impossible notion.
“It’s not that complicated. We can just say the winner here earns the right to collaborate with Laura, for example.”
“Collaborating is something you can already do easily, isn’t it?”
“Hmm. Then how about the right to go on a trip together? Or the right to share a meal?”
Rui said lightly.
“The actual prize for winning isn’t that important.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. When it comes to planned broadcasts like these, who wins doesn’t really matter. As long as the process is fun, that’s all that counts.”
A competition among participants, with me as the reward. It’s that dynamic that’s supposed to be entertaining; what happens after the broadcast doesn’t really matter.
“It’s like those romance comics where the most exciting part is before they start dating.”
In that case, perhaps the winner of the “Aurora Contest” should just be invited to my home for a meal or something.
That wouldn’t be too hard. I could leave the cooking to Rion; she’d handle it perfectly.
However…
“What exactly are we gaining from this plan?”
“Publicity, experience in hosting planned broadcasts, an increase in subscribers, and showcasing what kind of VTuber Aurora is. ──Most importantly, it’s about my connections.”
Rui explained.
“I joined the Fantasy League because I wanted popularity. And Laura, you had your reasons for joining too, right?”
“That’s right.”
“I won’t ask what those reasons are. But if you use me, you might achieve them more easily.”
So this is about testing out this kind of broadcast using me first.
Rui’s choice of words might be aggressive, but they weren’t wrong.
Whether it’s family, friends, or lovers, isn’t every relationship about mutual utility at its core?
What varies is how much emotion, dedication, and consideration you pour into that relationship. That’s the only difference.
“Of course, if Laura doesn’t like it, we can scrap this whole idea. Since this plan absolutely requires your cooperation, your feelings matter the most.”
And while Hanabane Rui might be calculating, she never crosses the line.
She’s just an ambitious person—not a villain.
So, while there’s no harm in accepting Rui’s proposal…
“Do I have to answer right now?”
I hinted at wanting more time to think about it.
Rui’s plan sounded like it could be fun. And it wouldn’t even be much trouble for me.
There’s just one thing.
‘Personally, I’d rather support Inagika.’
Our current goal was the AoiS one-man live.
For that, all of us 6th Gen members needed to have our 3D modeling completed. While Sora and I were in the production stage, Inagika and Chel hadn’t even started discussions yet.
To gain recognition, we’d have to do something that could spark conversations in various communities or participate in tournaments.
But neither Chel nor Inagika had the personality for that.
Which left external collaborations as the only way to get their faces out there. But both of them weren’t particularly proactive about those either. Though recently, they seemed to have tried something like a TRPG collaboration.
In that sense, getting help from Rui, who specialized in large-scale projects, would definitely be beneficial.
“You don’t have to answer right now. This plan would take about one to two months to prepare anyway.”
“That long? Why?”
“For starters, we haven’t even finalized the participants. Once we do, we’ll need to coordinate schedules.”
Currently, the confirmed participants were Rui and me—just the two of us.
The mandatory guests to invite were Sora, Anna, Shina, and Mero—four more.
At least six people, potentially more, would have to gather on the same day at the same time, so it was bound to take time to coordinate.
“Besides, everything has to be done in the right order.”
“Order?”
“First, the Leviathan collaboration has to come first.”
Tap, tap.
Rui tapped on the chalkboard as she spoke.
***
For example, let’s say the Aurora Contest was to be held tomorrow.
What kind of reactions would we get from the viewers?
-“Why is she helping someone from another team? What about her own team?”
-“You’d probably get responses like that.”
So Rui explained that taking care of the Leviathan team members first had to be the priority.
The world is vast, and this world is full of all kinds of people.
Some viewers might not think much of it, but there are always others who overanalyze things. Especially among VTuber fans, Rui said, such tendencies seemed more common.
I needed time anyway.
Time to organize my thoughts.
Time to talk with Inagika and Chel.
It would also be nice to have time to consult with Sora and Rion.
So I had no major objections to doing the Leviathan collaboration first.
Inui Kirin
[So, what game are we playing?]
That’s what Inui Kirin, the 4th-tier pick from our Leviathan team, asked.
And that was the crux of the problem.
What game are we even going to play?
Hanabane Rui
[Anyone have any game suggestions?]
[Last time, Laura suggested Aseosal.]
Kaga Mero
[Heck.]
Inui Kirin
[Isn’t that the one with zombies?]
[I don’t like scary things.]
Barubara Rian
[What about “Ghosts ‘n Goblins”?]
[It’d be fun if we all played together in the living room.]
Inui Kirin
[Isn’t that a single-player game?]
Barubara Rian
[We can just take turns playing.]
Hanabane Rui
[“Ghosts ‘n Goblins” seems a bit too difficult.]
[Plus, for the first game, something we can all play together would be better.]
Aurora
[I’m against “Ghosts ‘n Goblins” too.]
[If I clear the whole game in one coin, no one else will have anything to do.]
Barubara Rian
[Can you really clear it in one coin, Lady Aurora?]
Aurora
[I’ve never played it, so I can’t say for sure.]
[Do you want to find out?]
Barubara Rian
[Hmm…]
Kaga Mero
[If we’re looking for a group game, how about “Among Us”?]
[I’m fine with Mafia games too.]
Aurora
[The player count is awkward for that.]
[There are six of us, remember?]
[If we have two impostors, a double kill would mean the impostors win as soon as the game starts.]
Kaga Mero
[What if we reduced it to one impostor?]
[But then wouldn’t the impostor be at a huge disadvantage?]
Inui Kirin
[“Overcooked.”]
[Wait, was that a 4-player game?]
Barubara Rian
[Yeah, it’s 4-player.]
Deciding on a game to play together was proving to be more challenging than expected.
Finding games that allowed six players to play simultaneously was harder than anticipated. Most party games were designed for four players.
On top of that, I wanted to avoid games that relied heavily on physical skill.
‘The ideal game would be one where everyone gets a chance to shine.’
For those who might misunderstand, I don’t particularly crave carrying the team.
I simply have a strong desire to win, and from experience, I’ve found that taking the lead myself tends to yield better results.
But if there’s a guarantee of victory, I’m perfectly fine letting someone else take the wheel.
Driving the team is exhausting, after all. It’s best to leave the minor things to others and only step in as the emergency savior when needed.
Eliminating games with heavy physical elements made the search even harder.
As I mentioned earlier, playing something like “Ghosts ‘n Goblins” might result in others just sitting idle while the stream ends.
Similarly, team battles like “Gang Beasts” or “Bomber Girl” would likely end up in a 3v3 scenario where my team would inevitably win. That kind of one-sidedness wouldn’t make for entertaining content.
Inui Kirin
[Then how about something like “Arkham Horror”?]
[What about board games?]
Aurora
[I personally don’t like games with a heavy luck factor.]
Ayanokouji Sora
[What about “Minecraft”?]
[Or games like “Fanworld,” “Moon Valley,” or “Don’t Starve”?]
Kaga Mero
[Sandbox games?]
[We’ve all played those.]
Hanabane Rui
[I’ve tried them a few times with our office juniors.]
Barubara Rian
[I wouldn’t mind sandbox games.]
[But actually, there’s a server where individual VTubers play together.]
[Viewers might find it a bit boring since they’re already used to it.]
Kaga Mero
[What about something like a GTA streamer server?]
Barubara Rian
[We’ve got rookies, so that’s a no-go.]
Inui Kirin
[Yeah.]
Ayanokouji Sora
[?]
Various suggestions were tossed around, but we eventually leaned toward the conclusion that “sandbox games are the safest choice.”
As some mentioned in the chat, the downside was that viewers were already familiar with the genre.
But there weren’t many alternatives.
In the end, we didn’t decide on a sandbox game.
