Chapter 211: Chapter 222 It's Your Turn
"How many prisoners are there in total?" Carl asked.
Sean thought for a moment and replied, "If you count the governor, there should be six."
"Where are their cells?"
"It's just a little bit ahead. It's separated, but the cells are quite close." Sean pointed to the sign for area C.
"They probably haven't counted the number of people yet, right?" Carl continued to ask.
"Indeed not yet." Just at this moment, Sean stopped, turned to the left, and looked at the cell in front of him.
Except for a small open space where Oscar and Thomas were, there was no electricity in other places in the cell area, including the cells here.
It was dark, so Sean and Rick each had a flashlight.
Sean shone the flashlight into the room in front of him, and Carl followed his gaze.
"Hello, Shumpert."
Sitting on the edge of the bed with his hands on his knees and his head lowered, Shumpert raised his head and took a look. The dazzling light made it difficult for him to see clearly.
But the voice is very recognizable. After all, there are not many teenagers in the voice change period these days.
Shumpert knew who it was. His expression froze slightly. He shook his head randomly, then lowered his head again, looking at the ground.
"I thought you were going to scold me." Carl took Beth's hand and walked to the iron railing.
"Does it make sense?" Shumpert didn't look up or say a word, and continued to stare at the ground in a daze.
"Carl, do you know him? Why is he locked up here?" Beth pulled Carl's hand and asked softly.
"I guess I know him. He is one of the people who are going to occupy the prison today, but he is not a bad person."
After Carl explained for Beth, he looked at Sean and said, "He can be absorbed into our prison. You can find a suitable person to talk to him. He will figure it out."
"For this job, I will consider the manpower." Sean nodded.
Carl continued to walk forward, passing by several cells with people inside, but Carl did not stop.
"The Governor's cell is far away. I separated them," Sean said.
Karl nodded, "I'm not looking for the Governor." After a pause, he added, "Not now."
"Who are you looking for?" Sean asked.
"Someone who can help us take over Woodbury smoothly." Carl stopped and pointed to the cell in front of him.
Martinez noticed the person coming and looked outside the iron bars. Even though he was backlit and the flashlight was blinding, Martinez did not avoid the person but just narrowed his eyes slightly.
Carl called softly, "Martinez."
Suddenly, like Shumpert, Martinez knew who was coming, and he fought excitedly. He took two steps to the iron railing and held it with both hands.
"Carl! Do you know what you did?"
"Hey, man, back off." Sean warned with a threatening tone.
"It's okay." Carl shook his head, released Beth's hand, and patted it gently, "I'm here."
Then he walked to the iron bars and looked at Martinez who was in the darkness.
"Carl, you can't get so close to him!" Rick stepped forward and tried to pull Carl away.
"It's okay. I told you it's okay." He said confidently, then looked at Martinez in front of him.
Martinez's eyes were staring at Carl, and the emotion in his eyes was hard to describe. There was anger, extreme anger, but there was something else besides anger.
"Sir, what do you think I did?" Carl asked softly.
"You've ruined everything. You've betrayed the Governor's trust in you, Carl! How could you do this? Anyone can betray the Governor, but you can't!
Carl, I don't believe you can't feel it! You know, I have never seen such tenderness in the Governor towards you. He really loves you and he has devoted his heart to you, but you repay him with betrayal!"
Martinez looked very excited, and was almost roaring. Carl couldn't help but frown slightly and took two steps back to avoid the saliva spraying on himself.
Carl said quietly and calmly:
"Martinez, the facts are very different from what you think, but I don't want to explain too much now. It's over, everything is over. No matter how you mention the past, it is a foregone conclusion."
Martinez was slightly stunned when he saw Carl's expression, and then, a little bit unbelievable, "Carl! Don't you have any feelings?"
"I do, I'm sure, but my feelings can only be given to one person." Karl nodded indifferently, and then continued in a very calm voice:
"Sir, it is useless for you to talk about the past and about me now. We should talk about some practical topics."
Martinez said nothing, just stared at Carl.
Karl took a few steps forward, stood in front of the iron bars, and continued, "For example, your current situation, um, prison, iron cage, in fact, I never think that the iron cage in the prison has any meaning.
Especially in this time, so, Martinez, do you want to come out? Do you want to come out? "
"Come out to work for you?" Martinez sneered and walked back to the bed and sat down.
Karl's mouth twitched slightly, "Sir, the right choice is always difficult to make, I can understand that, but in fact I shouldn't come to talk to you at this time.
I have the confidence that I can tame you, it just takes time. In many cases, people's persistence is not as strong as they think.
Martinez, do you know how to train eagles? Eagles are very proud animals. They are conquerors of the sky. The vast sky, the sky that humans yearn for, allows them to soar. But such an animal, in the hands of an excellent hunter, only needs time and it will become as obedient as a domestic dog.
Humans are also animals, a more advanced type of animals, who are guided by emotions rather than instincts.
But as long as they are animals, they cannot escape the control of instinct. They just need to erase their emotions or find substitutes.
Trust me, Martinez, it's not that hard, really.
Maybe you think I'm talking nonsense, or just the bragging of a child.
But Martinez, you know, I'm different, and that's what I just said.
This is exactly what I experienced. Otherwise, do you think the Governor would trust me so easily? You know the Governor. He is not someone who will give his heart away easily.
Because I've been there, I know, Martinez, and I could apply the same approach to you if I wanted to, and really, your outcome wouldn't change.
Why not make the smart choice?
Martinez, you are a warrior. I know that you may choose to die rather than surrender. I can understand that warriors always have their own persistence.
So why do you think I am so eager to communicate with you now? This is not a good choice.
The better option is for me to wear down your arrogance first.
It just takes time, and the time I lack is not because of you or me.
It's Woodbury. I need you to help me take over Woodbury as soon as possible and move everything here. With your help, there will most likely be no casualties in Woodbury.
This is exactly what I want to see.
But if you refuse, you won't change anything, some people will just die, the outcome will be the same.
Now, it's your turn to choose."
