Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Speedy Watch Shopping
```
"Hello, welcome to the IWC store, are you two looking for men's or women's watches?"
The store guide at the entrance enthusiastically greeted them. Zhou Wang hadn't had a chance to speak yet when a voice suddenly rang out from outside the store.
"Ranran!"
Zhou Wang turned his head in confusion and saw a man about thirty years old with a crew cut standing outside the store, frowning and waving at Ranran, who was beside Zhou Wang.
"Oh no, why did Brother Mao come straight here?"
Seeing the man, Ranran stuck out her tongue nervously, hurriedly put down the shopping bags in her hands, and said to Zhou Wang, "Brother, I'll be back in a bit!"
After saying this, she didn't wait for Zhou Wang to inquire further and rushed off.
Although Zhou Wang found it perplexing, since he had just met Ranran and time was pressing, he didn't bother too much and turned to the guide, saying, "I want to buy a watch, priced around 400,000, but it must be in stock!"
"400,000?"
The guide was slightly surprised. Of course, IWC had watches in that price range, but they didn't sell well, so it was his first time encountering a customer who specified a 400,000 watch right off the bat.
The guide quickly restored his normal expression, but his eyes showed a hint of thought.
"Certainly, sir, please follow me."
The guide led Zhou Wang to the reception area but didn't sit down. Instead, he walked to another counter and whispered a few words to a man in a suit who was looking down at something.
While Zhou Wang was wondering, the man in the suit turned his head, glanced over, then walked over with a smile.
"Hello, sir, I'm the manager of the IWC Henglong store, my last name is Cao. I heard from Little Zhou about your needs, considering your substantial budget, it might be more appropriate for me to assist you. Is that alright?"
"No problem, but you can skip the brand history and all that, just show me the watch."
Hearing that the manager himself was assisting, Zhou Wang was clearly pleased, as it might mean higher efficiency.
"It seems you're no stranger to us at IWC, so I'd like to confirm first. I just served a customer with the same intent. Are you here for the limited edition 'Ocean Timekeeper Perpetual Calendar' too?"
Manager Cao asked with a smile.
Uh...
Zhou Wang was stunned for a moment. He realized there might have been some misunderstanding but still nodded calmly, "If it's the one priced at 400,000, I suppose it is. I'd like to see the stock first. Do you have it?"
"Of course, it's in the store right now. The customer who pre-ordered it gave up on the purchase for personal reasons. In fact, it just got off the plane yesterday and was delivered to our store today. It's only been here for three hours..."
Manager Cao explained while beckoning to the guide who shared the same surname as Zhou Wang.
Little Zhou quickly brought over a white watch box and carefully placed it on the table.
Manager Cao put on gloves and personally opened the box. After opening the large white box, there was a small black leather box inside. After unfastening the clasp, a watch with a black dial, red markers, and hands was revealed.
The watch couldn't be called stunning, but it had a lot of texture. The style looked a bit like a plain electronic watch, but Zhou Wang had to admit it seemed better than the few Vacheron Constantin models he had just looked at...
Mainly due to a better age fit.
"Mr. Zhou, let me introduce you in detail to this diving watch from the IWC's Ocean Timekeeper series, the IW379405, known as a king among them..."
"It features a ceramic titanium case, automatic winding, a dial diameter of 49mm, a sapphire glass top, luminescent coating, paired with a black rubber strap..."
"As a limited edition, only 25 units were released worldwide..."
"It has a water resistance of up to 300 meters underwater..."
Manager Cao was enthusiastically showcasing and explaining everything about the watch to Zhou Wang until Zhou Wang suddenly interrupted him.
"What's the price?"
"Its official price in the mainland is 436,000."
Manager Cao was not displeased in the slightest and answered with a smile.
"Perfect!"
Upon hearing the quoted price from Manager Cao, Zhou Wang even felt for a moment that the watch seemed custom-made for him.
"Can I try it on?"
Zhou Wang couldn't wait any longer.
...
Meanwhile, outside the store in the corner.
"Do you know what mistake you made?"
Brother Mao asked Ranran grumpily, his hands stuffed into his pants pockets.
"Was it... forgetting to turn off the location app?"
Ranran said cautiously.
After all, doing this line of work involved young and pretty girls, and the quality of clients varied. There had been quite a few troublesome incidents, so Brother Mao made each of them install a location-sharing app on their phones. They turned it on when there were jobs, also for their safety.
That's how Brother Mao managed to find Ranran so quickly after she went "off the grid."
"You're still joking with me!"
Brother Mao raised his hand as if to knock Ranran, but in the end, he didn't follow through. He just shook his head helplessly and said, "So, that young boy is the reason you stood up the client?"
Though they hadn't known each other long, Brother Mao had some understanding of Ranran. She worshipped money but was a sucker for looks.
Ranran had previously refused appointments, claiming the "client was too ugly," but since she was doing this only part-time, Brother Mao couldn't say much.
This time was rather outrageous. Ranran had already agreed, but after the client waited for half an hour without seeing her, he called Brother Mao, who then realized Ranran just never showed up.
She didn't reply to messages, and calls went unanswered. Brother Mao even wondered if something really happened to her, which is why he hurried to Henglong Square.
After seeing the two holding hands from a distance, Brother Mao assumed he had the whole story.
"I've never banned you from dating, but standing up a client after accepting a job isn't right, is it?"
Thinking about it, Brother Mao got a bit angry again.
"It's not like that, Brother Mao, you've got it wrong..."
Ranran explained briefly how she and Zhou Wang met, "I was keeping him company shopping just now and didn't have time to check my phone. By the time I remembered, it was too late!"
"So you two just met?"
Brother Mao was taken aback and then shook his head, "Forget it, that's not important, let's go!"
"Where to?"
"Of course, to apologize!"
Brother Mao coldly said, "Although I've asked Qinqin to fill in temporarily, the client is still very upset. It'd be best for you to come with me and apologize face-to-face... The client is quite influential, and I can't afford to offend him either."
"Ah, but I already promised to accompany him to buy the watch. And I think he's quite influential too..."
"Buying an IWC probably means a decent family background... but that's about it."
Unlike Ranran, who was clueless about watches, Brother Mao knew quite a bit. After all, the people he dealt with were all into watches, and not understanding this was not an option!
He had his own standards for judging watch brands.
The simplest way to gauge a watch brand's tier was to look at the price range of its best-selling models.
For example, IWC, despite claiming parity with Rolex, had its best-sellers priced around 50,000, while the most popular Rolex models had real prices no lower than 100,000, revealing a gap.
Although Brother Mao himself wore a Longines watch worth more than 20,000, it didn't stop him from looking down on IWC from this perspective.
"I still think it's not good…"
"Never mind, don't worry, I'll go and talk to him."
Seeing Ranran's unease, Brother Mao waved his hand and walked directly into the store.
