A dungeon emerged in Delphine.
We stood before it along with the other adventurers.
To roughly sum up dungeons that appeared in the game:
Monsters appear.
Go kill them.
Get rewards.
Rinse and repeat endlessly.
From what I had gathered, things weren't much different here. You could make money by going into the dungeon and selling magic stones or byproducts dropped by monsters.
There was a profession called Adventurer who made a living by killing monsters, and you had to join the Adventurer's Guild to be able to sell items.
I had already joined, of course.
Needless to say, I couldn't use magic and didn't know how to wield a sword. I might barely win in a battle to the death against a single baby goblin.
The reason I signed up to become an adventurer despite this was to enter the dungeon. Unlike my gaming days, to enter a dungeon now, you needed to qualify as one of four: a knight, mage, adventurer, or clergy.
Moreover, this wasn't a game where I could just leave everything to auto-battle for the slaves.
If we aren't careful, we could get seriously injured or die.
Unlike in the past where injuries healed over time or with treatment, we could suffer irreversible damage here. In severe cases, we could even die. How could I send my cute slaves into such a place alone?
I had to join them and utilize all means available, including information and item shops.
"The danger level of this dungeon is F to G. Everyone is allowed to enter."
A guild employee measured the dungeon's danger level with a magic tool and assigned it a grade. As expected of the first story dungeon, the difficulty was as low as possible.
Lower difficulty meant weaker monsters appeared. This also meant it wasn't easy to make money. Perhaps because of this, adventurers looking for a big score had dropped out, leaving only newbies.
That's a relief.
It would have been a headache if we had to compete. If someone snatched away the reward we were aiming for, we'd have to buy it at a premium.
Of course, it was too early to relax completely. There were still some adventurers remaining.
"Miss Mirabelle, let's hurry in."
"Yes."
We stepped beyond the dungeon entrance, and instantly a feeling of weightlessness enveloped our entire bodies.
When I came to my senses, we were no longer in the field where we could see the city, but in a pitch-black cave without a single ray of light. The way behind us was blocked by a wall.
To escape, we'd need to find a teleportation stone somewhere in the dungeon or use the one that appeared after defeating the boss.
I turned on the portable magic stone lantern I had bought earlier to light our way.
"I can do it with magic."
"No, I'll handle this. Miss Mirabelle, please focus on solely combat."
I should be considered completely outside of our combat strength. Mirabelle was the only one capable of real fighting, so I needed to create an environment where she could fully concentrate on battle.
If I wanted to be carried, I had to do at least this much.
"Let's go."
We began to advance through the dark cave.
The dungeon's structure was a maze.
Since it had just appeared today, it was completely unknown territory.
For reference, I didn't know it either. After all, this wasn't an RPG, and a tycoon game wouldn't describe dungeon geography in detail.
The exploration had been a turn-based 2D side-scroller. The thousands of times I had run auto-battles were now completely useless.
If there was one fortunate thing…
"Let's turn right."
Apart from the characters being realistic, there was one truly useful feature: the item shop.
A shop that sold items useful not just for slave raising but for all sorts of situations. Before entering the dungeon, I had purchased one item.
[Dungeon Map]This is a dungeon map.
A very simple description.
Upon entering the dungeon, the structure and geography of the dungeon would be recorded on parchment.
Though it was just a 500-point item, it was very useful in this situation. Only I could know the path through the dungeon.
I should note that I couldn't sell it. Shop items were usually one-time use.
"That's amazing, Master."
"Haha, thank you."
Mirabelle sent me a rare look of admiration. Such gazes were always welcome. She should do it more often.
With the help of the map, we advanced steadily without ever encountering a dead end. Then Mirabelle signaled me to stop.
"Wait a moment. There's a demonic beast ahead."
Our first encounter with a monster since entering the dungeon.
Growl.
It was a green short and stubby monster—a goblin. In fantasy settings like games or web novels, they often appeared as starter monsters alongside slimes.
"Can you handle it?"
"Of course."
Mirabelle confidently aimed the Heavenly Covenant. An indigo magic arrow imbued with her mana blasted the goblin's head apart.
Ugh.
A grotesque sight of blood and flesh splattering everywhere.
Thankfully, although it was disgusting, I didn't throw up. At times like these, I felt grateful for being synchronized with Karami's soul.
We encountered goblins a few more times after that, and each time Mirabelle disintegrated them with magic.
But we couldn't collect the magic stones.
Mirabelle still struggled with fine control, so she ended up destroying the magic stones as well.
Well, it wasn't a big deal. We weren't in urgent need of money, and goblin magic stones wouldn't sell for much anyway. It would be better to raise and liberate a slave instead.
This is going smoothly.
Well, naturally. It was like using an SSR character for the first stage. It would be strange if it were difficult.
As we walked, we came across a small cavern.
It was a rest point.
"Miss Mirabelle, do you need to rest?"
"I'm fine, don't worry about me, Master. Let's keep going."
"No, I'm tired. Let's rest a bit."
"…"
Why, what's with that look?
Do you think it's easy for this frail body to walk through a cave with a lack of oxygen?
In the end, we decided to rest.
At times like these, I was glad to be the master.
If I were the slave, I might have been beaten with a staff.
Though there was clean-looking stream water trickling by, there was no need to drink it. We had a mage in our party, after all.
I quenched my thirst with water made from Mirabelle's essence and washed my grimy hands.
Before we set out again after a short rest, I shared some information with Mirabelle.
"From what I can tell, this dungeon seems to only have goblins. It's probably a goblin's lair."
Mirabelle nodded as if she already knew that.
But she probably didn't know this. Just as I was about to add an explanation, Mirabelle spoke up, stealing my timing.
"I sense an evil power lurking deep in the cave. There seems to be a being that uses magic."
Oh?
She can sense that?
I was momentarily surprised. As Mirabelle guessed, the dungeon boss was a spell-casting goblin—a Goblin Shaman. Our goal was the skill book it had a small chance of dropping when killed.
"I see. That's very useful information."
Pleased by the praise, Mirabelle smiled slightly.
At that moment, another party entered the rest area from a different path than the one we had come from.
"Don't be such a coward, vanguard! We almost all died because of you!"
"You're the one yelling and startling me!"
Sharp voices echoed back and forth.
It was a mixed-gender party of two men and two women. They looked like newbie adventurers around Mirabelle's age.
As they bickered loudly enough to make the cavern resound, their eyes soon met mine.
"What's this, another party? I thought we were the first ones here."
"That's because you were dawdling!"
"Why do you keep picking fights, huh? Is it that time of the month?"
"What did you say?!"
Ugh, so noisy.
This wasn't good for a child's development. I should only show Mirabelle good things.
"Haha, you all seem to get along well. Miss Mirabelle, let's move on so we don't disturb them."
"Yes."
We were about to continue on our way when…
"Wait! Please take me with you!"
The boy carrying a wooden shield and short sword spouted nonsense out of nowhere and approached us.
Wary of the boy's approach, Mirabelle aimed her staff at him. The adventurer boy flinched and maintained his distance, unable to come any closer.
"What do you mean by take you with us?"
"It looks like you have a mage and a scout…? Anyway, you don't seem to have a vanguard, so let me join. I'll be your vanguard."
The boy who said this stared at Mirabelle, but quickly averted his gaze. Then he glanced at her again, his cheeks turning red.
This backwater hick dares to look at my daughter like that?
Just as I was about to say something, the girl who seemed to be the party leader shouted instead.
"Hey! What nonsense are you suddenly spouting? What are we supposed to do if our vanguard leaves?"
"You guys keep complaining anyway. This is your chance to realize how valuable I am."
No, we have no intention of going with you.
He's doing everything by himself.
Mirabelle looked at me with an expression that seemed to say, 'Should I eliminate him, Master?' Stop. Don't.
I forcefully pushed the back of the boy who was facing off against his companion.
"Whoa?"
The boy stumbled, teetering on the edge of falling, before finally collapsing in front of the girl. He looked at us with the eyes of someone who had been betrayed.
A dirt wall suddenly rose between the boy and us, blocking our view. It was Mirabelle's magic.
"You're dead!"
"Ah! W-wait a sec?!"
And then came the sounds of a beating.
It was punishment for trying to abandon his party in a life-or-death dungeon. Take it like a man.
"Let's go."
I had Mirabelle block all the paths leading to the boss room. This was to prevent anyone from potentially stealing the magic book.
We encountered various groups of goblins afterwards, but again, it was so one-sided it could hardly be called combat.
Finally, we reached the boss room.
As expected, a goblin shaman was in there.
A few regular goblins.
And also.
Huh?
There were even two hobgoblins.
