The World of Naruto in the Eyes of Reincarnation

Chapter 85: Chapter 85

Seeing their attack succeed, one of the assailants sneered, "Big bro, this guy with the 25 million ryo bounty wasn't much after all. We took him down in one go!"

*Poof...!*

Before he could finish, the Hyuga Kagami they had just skewered vanished in a puff of smoke.

"Shadow clone!?" both attackers exclaimed, stunned.

At that moment, a figure suddenly descended from above, landing squarely on their heads. With a foot on each of them, the real Hyuga Kagami pinned them to the ground. He crouched down slowly, his face filled with mock exasperation. "Hey, didn't the bounty notice have my name on it? You guys really thought hiding in the bushes like that was enough to catch me off guard? Come on."

"Damn it!"

"How was that a shadow clone?!"

The two bounty hunters, immobilized under his feet, still looked incredulous.

Hyuga Kagami's expression turned cold. *Have the Hyuga really lost that much of their deterrent power in the shinobi world?*

If his name was on the bounty list, any bounty hunter should know he was a Hyuga and possessed the Byakugan. Yet these two clearly didn't have a clue.

And from the earlier ambush, it was clear they weren't weak—both were at least Chunin level.

Kagami couldn't tell if they were just that ignorant or if the Hyuga clan's reputation had truly fallen so far.

After tying them up, Kagami returned to the village.

At the mission center, he learned the two attackers were rogue nin from the Hidden Mist. They had committed numerous crimes after defecting, racking up their own bounties. Together, they were worth nearly 3 million ryo.

Kagami also learned that the Hidden Mist had recently descended into civil unrest.

Several bloodline clans were said to be involved in rebellion, throwing the entire village into chaos. As a result, many Mist ninja had fled—some becoming drifters, others bounty hunters.

Having wrapped up that situation, Kagami wasted no time and headed out again.

Despite his recent windfall, his mood was anything but cheerful. In fact, his face gradually grew more solemn.

During the ambush, he had remained hidden, wary of a follow-up attack, and closely observed his surroundings.

It was then he noticed something chilling—the Root ninja assigned to monitor him had made no move to help.

They were fellow villagers. Yet, when he was attacked, the Root operative didn't even flinch.

That told him everything: this Root ninja wasn't just surveilling him—he regarded Kagami as an enemy.

This realization ignited a killing intent in Kagami.

At first, he had figured the Root ninja was just following orders and could be avoided. No need for bloodshed.

But now? His view had changed.

That night, Kagami camped in the forest. He picked a flat clearing, built a campfire, and casually roasted a rabbit over the flames.

Nearby, the Root operative sat on a tree branch, back against the trunk, watching the fire from a distance.

"Tch. Making a fire out in the open. So careless. This guy calls himself an Anbu?" he scoffed internally while chewing on dry rations.

His codename was Dingyou. Surveillance missions were his specialty. In fact, every mission he had ever carried out involved either watching someone... or assassinating them.

And often, those tasks were one and the same.

Because every person he had ever monitored... eventually became a target for assassination.

Suddenly, Dingyou felt a jolt of killing intent. Years of experience screamed that someone had locked onto him.

"Ninja Art: Super Beast Imitation!"

Reacting on instinct, he leapt from the tree, drawing brush and paper midair, sketching a giant ink bird.

*Swish swish...!*

But before he could even land on his ink creation, two iron spears pierced through it, splattering ink everywhere.

He hit the ground in a tumble, only to find himself facing a mysterious ninja—bandaged head to toe, no visible features.

Floating around this stranger were glimmering particles of iron sand.

*Magnet Release?!*

Dingyou's heart skipped a beat.

As a Root operative, he had heard of rare bloodlines and forbidden techniques. He recognized this one immediately—unique to the Hidden Sand.

"Who are you?!" he demanded, tense.

Even in the Sand, Magnet Release users were rare. Only the missing Third Kazekage and the current Fourth Kazekage were known to wield it.

And Dingyou seriously doubted either of them would come all the way out here to target him.

That meant this mysterious figure was likely a rogue Sand ninja.

But why him?

He had no classified intel, no valuable goods.

*Could this be about Hyuga Kagami?*

Considering Kagami's massive bounty, it started to make sense. Only a high reward could tempt a rogue Sand ninja with Magnet Release.

*He must see me as a hindrance and wants to eliminate me before going after Kagami!*

An idea struck him.

If the target was Kagami, all he had to do was lead this rogue ninja to him. The attacker would shift focus, and Dingyou could escape.

After all, as a Special Jonin, he was no match for someone with Magnet Release.

"Ninja Art: Super Beast Imitation!"

He quickly drew two ink lions to stall the enemy, then used the Body Flicker Technique to escape toward Kagami's campfire.

As he dashed through the trees, he caught sight of Kagami still sitting by the fire, gnawing on a rabbit leg, oblivious.

*What a fool,* Dingyou scoffed. *He hasn't even noticed the battle this close by...*
