Chapter 435: Dare to Hope.
"You are as you say you are, my Lord; a freak and a monster," Giza chuckled, watching Umbra's resilience and durability outscale that of the unkillable monster amidst them ripping each other apart. "Fascinating!" She laughed out, grabbing her mouth and cackling.
"This is perfect, with this leap in power you are closer to me than any other being ever was, I may be able to gain the power I seek without relying on Sol Vestic's downfall after all." Her lips spread into a creepily gentle smile while she thought of the inevitable fate of the man she called Lord. "Splendid."
Umbra, askance of the plot after his life and soul continued battling the evolved Makkan with his all, sinking his teeth into the creature's shoulder and ripping a chunk of it clean and then locking his teeth onto its collar bone while it did the same to him.
Locked in a clash to see who would rip who's neck out first, the two of them began punching and tearing at each other again, regaining the corrupted blood and flesh they were losing far faster than they could lose it, turning their struggle into one of resolve and attrition.
That was of course until the Makkan endured enough and adapted causing the bone to begin expanding in umbra's mouth until it ripped his jaws open while the monster before him grew larger.
"You cannot overcome me, Ender!" It shrieked, stretching its hands wide and slamming them into the man's temples before he could recover and then smashing his face in with its rounded forehead and regrown teeth.
"You will never win!"
"I am inevitability given form!" Umbra grabbed it by its jaws when it tried devouring him. "The only thing I am incapable of is affection, otherwise, there is no limit; I have seen it..." His jaws slammed shut and more black miasma began leaking from his other wounds healing them instantaneously.
"I have witnessed myself in worlds beyond this, realms beyond this, leagues above what your adaptation can ever hope to handle!" Umbra spun several times, gaining ground and momentum on the Makkan and surprising it with a roundhouse kick to the temple stunning it before he slammed his palm against its abdomen and grunted. "I have plenty more to offer!"
"This is surprising," Giza, noticing that Umbra was referring to himself and Sol as the same person hummed, partly confused but mostly awed.
Indeed Umbra and Sol were different, one chose light and the other accepted the dark to kill him. Until that moment, Umbra had always lacked the confidence to overpower the Golden Godslayer with brute force, but now he was seeing himself as the same entity, or rather, with the same potential, it was refreshing to her who was on the verge of giving up on him moments prior.
"You will never be the person you set out to be, your journey ends here!" The Makkan tried biting into Umbra again but suffered a devastating punch to its head instead; an impact so catastrophic that it caused the antimatter and dark mana to collapse into matter in an inverse explosion giving birth to clouds of cosmic life around Umbra while it was sent to the very borders of its reality.
Amidst watching the Makkan flying through the void, Umbra took a long breath, and his eyes that had glazed over with black refocused once more. "...No," He shook his head. "This is not nearly enough to shake me." He declared.
"My journey has not yet seen the climax of its existence," Umbra grabbed it just before it collided into the barrier leading into the collective and slammed its head into it, breaking its entirety and flying out while still holding it by the face. "Everything I do has purpose, has meaning, its not just destruction for the sake of destruction!"
"And what of it?!"
"Your existence is pointless!" Umbra stopped, releasing the beast slowly into a star as he began absorbing the light around him. "Hold on to your hatred and keep it in your heart until you wither away , Makkan, nothing you can evolve into will help you."
"A mere light cannot kill me, I am unkillable, I will adapt!"
"You only adapt when another of your kind dies and that information is passed on, but you are the last, you are immune to death, but you can still suffer, you still have fear, you still had the audacity to hope in my presence," Umbra, in a show of total dominance folded one hand behind himself and pointed the other at the Makkan.
"I was going to use this skill on Sol Vestic, but as I am, I am yet to reach him, and Giza told me that he has further developed it into another more powerful skill making it pointless, but for you, this will serve as a great oven until I decide how to kill you..."
"Forbidden Art: Nightmare Prism."
A portal opened behind the sentient monster and instinctually it spread its arms wide ready to catch the ends and prevent itself from falling through while it turned, but that desperation turned to shock as it vanished through the gateway, crashing into an endless desert of black sand.
"This place cannot hold me!" It arose with a roar, but there was nobody there to receive its words, just a vast emptiness in all directions.
"You opted to not killing it after all?" Giza asked, appearing at Umbra's side smiling at him. "You have done well, My Lord." She slowly reached for his arm, flinching when he dragged himself from her grasp and turned to her.
"As it said, I no longer have the means to killing it, but there is always more than one way to deal with a difficult opponent, it just took me a moment to realise this because I was consumed in the heat of the moment and refused to think beyond my fists, however, the instance calmed down the answer became clear."
"This is very unlike you, my Lord."
"The stronger I get, the more clear some things become to me, that's why I know that I will surpass Vestic soon, but not without the help of the Emperor, so until then, I will steadily improve and gain my strength as I have been."
"On that note, this is enough, right?" He asked, closing his eyes and retracting his mana, undoing his transformation in the process. "Does this qualify me an audience with the ruler of the Emporium?"
"We will see," She smiled, turning and encompassing them both in a dark capsule, taking them into her void again. "Do you need a moment?" She asked. "Even Sol was weakened the first time he underwent demonification."
"We may share the same thirst, but I am not him, not truly, I am fine." Umbra closed his eyes and went into a meditative pose while they began moving again.
"Then we will continue, within the next two months we will be at the nexus; the Emporium.
