Chapter 34: Sleeping with a sushi roll
Inside of the bedroom which they would be sharing, Alix laid in bed, wrapped up in a blanket from neck to toe like a sushi roll. She had a book on the lamp table which she was supposed to be reading but so far, not a single page had been turned.
This was because not very far away, Caishen was taking a bath. The bathroom was sound proof but Alix could swear that she heard the water running.
She kept staring at the grey wall of the bathroom as if something in there would pop out at any moment and frighten or eat her.
"No matter how much you look, you do not have x-ray vision. You will not see a single thing." her system drawled and laughed.
She checked the virtual screen and saw the blue elf floating on water in a relaxed manner. It should have been the host of a life enjoyment system because every time she saw it, it was in a relaxed position.
"Psh, who said that I am trying to see through the walls?" she responded.
The elf raised it's hands as if it was weighing something invisible.
"A handsome naked man vs a hormonal lust filled perverted woman..." it chuckled.
"Oh shut up" she responded, clearly irritated. "And don't slander me, I am not lustful or perverted."
She was prepared to say more when the bathroom doors slid open and out came Caishen.
His hair was wet and he had a towel over his head. His body was covered with a long thick white bathrobe.
Badump, Badump , Badump,
Alix's heart beat faster and stronger. For some reason, her face turned red and she curled her toes.
"Hi-hi-hi." The blue elf snickered.
Alix muted it, and it would stay that way until morning.
"Am I sleeping with a woman or a sushi roll?" Caishen asked when he came closer.
"Tch, in what way do I look like a sushi roll?" she asked herself.
"I am very cold, very very cold." she hastily responded.
He smirked and shook his head.
"Come and dry my hair."
Alix's raised herself up to sit upright, blanket still wrapped around her tightly.
"Tsk, what an arrogant man."
He was not even requesting but ordering. Did he think he was an emperor? He certainly wasn't like this when they were living in his parents house.
"What are you waiting for?" he asked for.
Slowly, Alix unwrapped herself, left the bed and dragged her feet over.
She took the hair dryer and towel, and slowly started drying his hair.
"Has your father called you today?" he suddenly asked.
For two seconds, her hands stopped moving and she froze. Then, she resumed what she was doing.
"Ten times or so, I lost count." she answered.
"Did he tell you about the gifts I left for him?" he asked.
She shook her head, "No."
"I sent him dead rodents, some cockroaches, a few frogs and cut up flowers. If he blames you for it, tell me and I will send him some more."
She opened her mouth in surprise and giggled.
"Ha! I bet Jing Hee run out of that house screaming, Billi too. I can picture it now, they should have opened the gift boxes expecting gold and jewels.
Dead critters, ha-ha, why didn't I ever think about doing that? Caishen, you are awesome."
She even put her left hand thumb and randomly decided to massage his scalp like her nanny used to do for her.
"Hmph, that serves them right. Do you now that when I opened up my music school, someone sent me a box with a dead rat and razorblades. I always thought that Billi or Jing Hee had done it but I could never prove it.
If I had known what you were planning, I would have added a box of razor blades."
"I will share my plan ahead of time next time." he told her.
Then, he reached over his shoulder and grabbed her hand, taking a close look at her fingers.
"They are healing nicely." she told him.
He nodded, in complete agreement with her.
"I will book an appointment for us at the hospital for a professional doctor to take a look at them. Do you have your old medical records?"
She nodded her head and blinked a few times, she would have to search through the documents in her office for them. Some she had set on fire after being told that her situation was hopeless over and over again.
"Alright, little sushi roll, let's go to bed."
She pursed her lips and puffed her cheeks.
"I am not a sushi roll."
"Burrito," he offered an alternative.
"That's not cool either." she said.
"I have got it, chicken wrap." he said with a laugh.
Flipping the covers of the bed while very irritated, Alix darted a sharp gaze at Caishen.
"Are you hungry Zhang Caishen? Why do you keep mentioning foods?"
Caishen snickered, and helped himself on to the bed without any help. She did not know but it pleased him that she did not offer to help him up.
"You, Lin Alix, I am older than you but you call me by my name so carefreely. Should we discuss that?"
She hmphed, Is he pulling the seniority card now? She thought.
"What should I call you, brother Zhang?"
"Don't be ridiculous." he replied with an eyeroll.
She softened her voice and called him, "Brother Zhang, oh handsome brother Zhang. Maybe beauty Zhang, isn't it better?"
"What is wrong with her?" he asked himself.
"No." he told her.
"Mmm, old Zhang?" she suggested with a satisfied smile on her face.
Caishen frowned and wagged his finger. What was she trying to pull? Was he a middle aged man?
"Don't even try it."
"So what should I call you?" she asked.
"Lord Zhang." he said.
"Ha!" she loudly uttered and covered her mouth quickly.
She couldn't help laughing as she looked at him, wondering if he was drunk after going out with his friends.
What is this, emperor syndrome?
"Hey, sushi roll, stop laughing." he said to her.
She hid her face in a pillow and laughed even more to the point of snorting again. It was the snort that made her stop laughing suddenly.
Ahh, again, I have embarrassed myself again, she wailed in her mind.
"Mmm-hmm, how about I just call you hubby Zhang." she said softly.
Caishen knew what she was up to, it was to distract him from that cute little snort she made when she laughed. He would be generous and allow her to think that she had managed to get away with it.
"Do what you want." he answered pretentiously.
He laid his head down on a pillow and switched off the light in the room.
"Yes, alright, goodnight hubby Zhang." Alix put her head down and went to sleep as well.
All of the tension she felt originally was gone.
