Chapter 18: Chapter 18
The grand Royal Library of Ketergia stood like a fortress of knowledge, its towering walls lined with ornate carvings of angels and warriors. It was a place of reverence, but also of strict security, with wizards stationed at every entrance to ensure that only authorized individuals entered its sacred halls.
Fort and Rooks stood at a safe distance, observing the two robed wizards guarding the main doors. Their staff glowed faintly, a testament to the powerful magic sealing the library's secrets.
"How are we getting past them?" Fort whispered, glancing at Rook.
Rook grinned, his spear resting against his shoulder.
"We have a secret weapon. Hey, Tranquilia!"
Tranquilia strolled up, his golden armor clinking softly.
"Yes, yes, leave it to me,"
he said, brushing off imaginary dust from his shoulder. "I'll handle this."
"What are you going to do?" Fort asked warily.
Tranquilia smirked. "
Distract them, of course. You two sneak in while I work my magic."
Without waiting for a response, Tranquilia sauntered up to the wizards, putting on an exaggeratedly confused expression.
"Oh, excuse me, fine sirs," he said, his voice comically high-pitched.
"I seem to have… gotten lost. Could you point me to the, uh, bathroom? It's an emergency, you see!"
The wizards exchanged confused glances as Tranquilia continued to ramble about his nonexistent predicament. Meanwhile, Fort and Rooks slipped past them, using the distraction to enter the library unnoticed.
Inside, the library was vast and dimly lit, rows of ancient tomes stretching endlessly in every direction. Fort marveled at the sight, but Rooks nudged him forward.
"Focus. We're not here to sightsee."
They reached a door marked "Restricted Archives."
The door shimmered with magic, a clear sign that it was sealed.
"How do we open it?" Fort asked.
Rooks smirked, raising his spear. The weapon glowed faintly as he channeled his own magic into it. With a sharp strike, the spear disrupted the magical seal, causing the door to creak open.
"Impressive," Fort muttered as they stepped inside.
The restricted section was even darker, the air heavy with the scent of old parchment. They quickly began searching through the records, their eyes scanning for anything related to the treason incident.
"Here!" Fort whispered, pulling out an old drive from a hidden compartment. The label read: Knight of Truth - Gordon.
"Gordon?" Fort's voice was laced with shock. "I thought Gordon was killed by the demons of Dark States."
Rooks's expression darkened. "That's what the Royal Knights told us. But this says otherwise."
The drive contained detailed records, including a shocking revelation: Gordon was executed by Flient, one of the Royal Knights, under accusations of treason.
"Flient?" Fort whispered, his hands trembling. "Why would he kill Gordon?"
"We don't have time to read it all," Rook said, shoving the drive into his pouch. "We need to get out of here."
Before they could leave, a sudden noise echoed through the library. One of the wizards had entered the restricted area, their staff glowing ominously.
"Intruders!" the wizard shouted.
"Time to go,"
Rooks said, grabbing Fort's arm. They bolted for the exit, but the wizard's magic began sealing the doors behind them.
Outside, Soudios and Tranquilia were waiting. Sadios' wings flared as he saw the commotion. "What did you two do?"
"No time!" Rooks shouted, tossing the drive to Soudios.
"Get them out of here! I'll meet you at the barracks."
Soudios grabbed the drive and lifted Fort and Tranquila with his powerful wings, carrying them away as Rooks stayed behind, covering their escape. With a powerful leap, Rooks jumped from the library, landing gracefully and vanishing into the shadows with the confidence of someone who always had a plan.
The group regrouped later, their minds racing with the implications of what they had uncovered. The truth about Gordon and Flient was now in their hands, but they knew it was only the beginning of a much larger mystery.
