Chapter 47: Chapter 36 - Preparations
CHAPTER 36 - PREPARATIONS
It's been two weeks since Dinzel started to take in my custom orders. Though it's only like three items, it's quite hard to produce or find the materials.
While Dinzel works on my items for the next step of my list, I train my core in hopes of getting to the next stage before I do my entrance exam in the adventurers guild. Using multiple options in growing my chances of climbing the stages, I now noticed that elixirs only delay your increase in your mana core. The only thing they are good at is growing your mana pool.
Annoying as it may be not being able to ascend into the next stage, it is quite the tool to use while I exert my deviants and elements.
I've gotten the hang of how Lighting, Illusion and Mist work but I am still struggling in manipulating Ice and Gravity. When I use the Ice deviant, it doesn't listen to my every command and instead goes rouge, freezing everything in a ten foot radius. I've even frozen Dinzel's work room without knowing. Yet, Gravity magic tends to stop in a certain amount of time, like a limit that has been placed in it.
At least those are the only problems I have with those two deviants.
Another thing I've learned is how to use external and internal Lighting. I have seen both external and internal use from two characters. Bairon Wykes and Arthur Leywin.
Bairon being the internal method and Arthur being the external method.
Both uses are an incredible thing but it comes with a price.
The external use of lightning uses too much mana to even keep active for long periods of time, consuming more than mist and ice if I were to say. While the internal use of lightning tenses your muscles to a point where you feel your whole body scream in pain for how many tendons are on the verge of snapping.
I experimented on the use of lightning to see how long it would take for the effects to counter my "healthy" body. On the external use of it, the most I could hold onto was six minutes, while the internal method only lasted for one minute.
It wasn't something to be proud of but I certainly was in fact. Each day–if I had time–I would practice on extending the limit.
Nevertheless, no matter how much I have to work hard to achieve even if it's a minute, it is still not enough for me to get through the war. Much less fight a Retainer and stay alive.
"Each day that I get to see you, there is always a chance of you getting injured." Said a voice behind me.
I sat there, facing the opposite side of the owner of the voice, watching the shadow completely shade me from the sun.
A sense of humor entered my mind and left my mouth in the form of a simple chuckle. "You are right, I can't deny that my training may cause me a sense of excitement and fear at the same time. However, may I ask what is the princess of Sapin doing here?"
I turned to the girl who had servants and knights to act as her bodyguard. Of course they all looked confused and some were disgusted at the sight of a commoner boy with black hair and red eyes.
After a couple of minutes, there was a table with two seats in the middle of the area where I was training. On top of the white table was an umbrella to cover both seats entirely. Judging by the look of the Princess and table, it only meant one thing.
Kathyln gestured for me to sit all the while the servants that she brought along took out tea with sweets to go along with the 'tea party'.
I took a gentle and graceful sip of the tea, minding my own manners in front of royalty. "When I meant we could have tea at any time, I didn't think you would track me down and immediately have tea."
"Is that so? Well just the thought of having tea with a friend is exciting–"
"So we are friends?" I asked, seeing her immediate silence after saying what she felt. Of course I was just teasing her just for the fun of it but genuinely thinking about it, I could have my head cut off because of how insensitive I acted.
"Are we not?" The Glayder girl turned her head in confusion.
I spent the next two seconds waiting for the proper response to pop into my head but I saw Kathyln's facial expression of anticipation towards my answer.
"No, quite the opposite. I am honored to think that the very princess of Sapin thinks of me as a friend." I bowed while still sitting down in front of her, showing a soft emotion that deep down didn't sit well with me but I didn't want to make her feel like I was obligated to be her friend just because she was the princess of a big kingdom.
But it is not just 'any big kingdom'.
I solely reminded myself again with the image of my head flying off my body because I'd offended the princess. Scary.
Well this is probably fate doing its work right now. "Princess I have something–"
"Kathyln. Since we are friends, call me Kathyln and drop the honorifics."
Crap…
"K-Kathyln… Since you are here, I have something important to tell you. Starting tomorrow I will–"
The black haired princess opened her mouth, cutting me short of my sentence. "Speaking of tomorrow, I am going with my family to an auction house. If you want, you can come with me so that you can meet my parents since you've already met my brother, Curtis."
A defeated sigh left my mouth as I just let her speak her mind out.
Then, it was finally my turn after she calmed down. Still, it was amusing to see her side where she isn't the 'cold princess' or something along those lines.
Maybe in this story she might just live a life where she will have many friends.
"Before you cut me off again, Kathyln. I have something to say. Tomorrow I won't be here, not for at least two or three years from now." My tone was calm but firm, making her–or at least trying to–believe that I wasn't lying in any form. "I for sure don't know if I will come back alive or perhaps die during my time adventuring. So I just wanted to tell you that this will be our last tea party until I've come back."
Silence… that is all that was occurring around us.
The wind was next to make noise, using the trees and bushes as its vessel to make us know it was there. Neither the servants or the knights bothered with us, even when the princess was quiet for two whole minutes or maybe more.
"Umm. Princ– Kathyln, I know I promised to have tea parties with you almost every day but I can't help it when I go adventuring. What I can do is have tea with you once I am done with adventuring…" My tone which was firm and gentle until now, turned to a nervous soundwave of scared notes.
I made movements with my hands, trying to explain to her that my leave for the Beasts Glades is a given with my current skills. What's more that I needed this, it was an opportunity to grow and get used to combat in case of anything that were to happen in the future.
Without thinking, I looked at one of the servants for help but they looked away from me instantly in disgust or with no intention of helping.
"Wha–"
A sensation on my pinky made me turn. The big bright black eyes stared at me with hope and trust. "Then promise me when you come back from your adventure, you will have as many tea parties as I want."
Suddenly, not knowing the reason, I smiled. It wasn't a smirk or a grin that made me look like some villain but a genuine soft smile.
"You got it."
***
My body felt light, even with all this armor, it felt like I didn't have it in the first place.
Not only that but these weapons…
"Are they to your liking?" Dinzel spoke, letting a satisfied grin show from his sweaty face.
I tested the two swords by swinging them and trying various maneuvers that I tried during my two weeks here in Xyrus. They were exceptional. Both swords had a sense of intelligence as I held them, but what had me more intrigued was how well both handle a burst of my own mana.
Handling the four elements without any problem really put a smile on my face. I wonder if they can handle deviants as well.
I hope that question and doubt could be answered soon…
"These items… I feel that even calling them legendary would be beneath them. They are unique if I were to say." My mouth opened and answered without any confirmation from my brain. Yet, I wasn't bothered by it since I saw awestruck by these items and how they reacted to my own mana.
I Was finally able to take my eyes off the armor and weapons. I turned to Dinzel who was holding something behind his back with his two hands full of calluses from his hard work over his years.
Dinzel let out a scoff, scratching the back of his head, he said, "Can I really not hide it from you?" The blacksmith handed me something that well seemed like a circle button. The design was simple, no major details that stood out to me until I placed my hand over it. "Place it on your neck and give it a mental command to fully cover your head."
A little sceptical about his words of order, I still followed what he said. Placing it on the side of my neck, just an inch away behind my jaw, I gently pressed it with two fingers and gave the item a command.
Full Cover.
Instantly to my mental words, the small device began to overflow my head with small sensations that I couldn't explain. I felt a cold iron touch around my neck as it traced my head and built a base to then build from there up.
Little sounds of metal colliding with each other ringed in my ears, the bright vision of my surroundings darken and became smaller until there were only two eyes' size holes to see through them. However, what I found astonishing was how I expected to have my surrounding vision caved in for all my time, from battling the Alacryans to mana beasts but I was wrong. It became more vibrant and clear.
"W-What is this–!"
My voice!
"Yeah, it is different ain't it? Well I had help from Aya with that but I am sure you are able to tweak it to your liking with your sound deviant."
He…knew!?
"We told him since Elder Virion and Elder Rinia said it was for the purpose of you being able to use everything you had against these "Alacyrans" during your time as an adventurer." A familiar voice said from behind me.
That voice?!
"We met each other again, Luke."
The figure cladded in a brownish black hood said with black eyes that radiated with power that I had yet to witness, letting the long black hair out for it to be visible
"Hello there Luke, it's been two weeks. How have you been?"
The other figure whose voice I'd recognized from even a crowded castle party, especially with those light blue eyes that show why she is what she ranks.
"I am ready, Masters."
