Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 194 - The True Old Site

The little fatty immediately asked, “Is the teleportation array still there now? It hasn’t been destroyed by those guys, has it?”

Tian Feirong shook his head and said, “It’s hard to say, but we can go there ourselves to check if the teleportation array still works.”

Of course, he estimated that it was most likely destroyed, but whether it could be repaired was unknown.

“How do we get there?” Gu Yao caught the key point.

Tian Feirong grinned, “Actually, the entrance we came through was only used in case of an emergency. When the Yan family was still around, they rarely needed it. So originally, when the Yan family entered this secret realm, they came in from the former Yanyun City. Where there’s an entrance, there’s an exit. Come with me, I’ll show you the way.”

After absorbing the Azure flame left by the ancestors of the Yan family, Tian Feirong could freely enter and exit that palace, which was the core of the entire secret realm, and he could bring others in as well.

Previously, the huge door that Chi Changye could not open with his Golden Core strength, Tian Feirong was able to easily open with a spiritual command and then stepped in calmly.

The Crystal Snake and the black cat, both curious and poking their heads around, were intrigued by this place they had previously been unable to enter. They had been running around the secret realm, but they couldn’t get in here.

After entering the palace, Gu Yao and the others took a look. The hall was vast, with a square platform in the middle. The lingering flame aura on the platform must have been where the original Azure flame stayed. The fire attribute spiritual energy here was even more intense, making it more suitable for cultivators like Tian Feirong.

Tian Feirong didn’t make them wait long. He cast a few spiritual commands, and a circle of light appeared on the ground in the center of the hall. This circle, as expected, had teleportation functions. The group followed Tian Feirong into the circle, and after standing firm, he cast another spiritual command. The figures of the group instantly disappeared from the hall.

They had just been in a place filled with dense fire attribute spiritual energy, but the next moment, they found themselves in a place surrounded by a grayish mist, filled with a heavy aura of death and decay. Upon their arrival, the sound of rustling and scurrying filled the air. Tian Feirong summoned his Wan Crow Pot, and several fire crows flew out, circling around before dispersing. The air immediately became much fresher.

Chi Changye glanced at the surroundings and then crossed his arms, standing beside Gu Yao. Gu Yao, after taking a good look at the surroundings, sighed, “This is the old site of Yanyun City. It should be buried deep underground somewhere in the Death Desert now.”

Tian Feirong’s expression turned somber. “That seems to be the case.”

In truth, it might be better that no one had found it, so that the people who once lived here wouldn’t be disturbed.

As they walked through the ruins, they noticed some areas still had well-preserved walls. It was evident that the materials used were very sturdy. In other places, just a slight touch would cause them to collapse and shatter. Occasionally, they would step on a bone, only to have countless tiny insects scatter from within, scurrying into hidden corners.

Even in such a place, spirits similar to soul shadows seemed to linger. However, with one person possessing the Azure Flame Constitution, another a lightning-based sword cultivator, and with the presence of the black cat, these spirits dared not approach. As soon as they sensed the terrifying aura, they fled far away.

Tian Feirong spent a long time searching before finding a familiar location. The ruins no longer resembled anything from his memory, and he could only estimate a direction and continue searching.

“I think this is it,” Tian Feirong said. “There’s still a remnant of a formation here, but with no spiritual energy, it no longer serves any purpose.” He touched a formation flag on the ground, which was dim and lifeless. It had once been an excellent spiritual material, but now it was of no use.

The four of them used their spiritual energy to clear the area, moving aside the debris and revealing the grand formation below. After taking a closer look, they all had expressions of understanding. The entire formation had shattered like a spider’s web, and even though it had been a long time, careful observation could still reveal that it had been deliberately destroyed. They could pinpoint the fatal blows.

Tian Feirong looked at Chi Changye awkwardly and asked, “Is there any chance this can be repaired?”

Among the four of them, Chi Changye was the one most skilled in formations.

Chi Changye helplessly glanced at him. “What are you thinking? Forget about the formation itself; even the materials are incomplete. Don’t even bother thinking about it.”

Though he had expected this outcome, Tian Feirong still felt a bit disappointed. While he had gained quite a lot, in the end, he had not been able to help his companions. He eventually turned around and returned to the secret realm. From there, they went back to the underground magma area, and then back to the surface.

However, while in the secret realm, they stayed a little longer. Tian Feirong threw the Wan Crow Pot into the magma, letting it absorb more flame energy to enhance its performance.

When they emerged from the magma again, the Wan Crow Pot could now clear the path for them. It absorbed the surrounding flame energy, creating a barrier to protect them as they reached the shore. The creatures living in the magma, which had initially shown signs of movement as they appeared, immediately retreated when they sensed the aura released by Tian Feirong, leaving a much clearer passage.

The four people and two beasts made their way back along the same path. As they moved further from the underground magma, the temperature gradually began to drop. However, at a bend in one of the underground caves, Chi Changye suddenly paused. He reached out into the darkness and grabbed something. Upon seeing what he had caught, Tian Feirong and the little fatty both gasped. It was none other than the person who had managed to escape during the earlier insect tide attack!

“Did this guy discover us early and follow us the whole way? Was he waiting for us to come out?” Tian Feirong asked in surprise. There was no other way to explain how the cultivator had appeared here, hiding so secretly that neither he nor the little fatty had noticed. However, Gu Yao didn’t show any particular reaction, so it seemed he had sensed something.

Chi Changye relaxed his spiritual power a little, allowing the man to speak. The man immediately cried out for help, “I accidentally discovered a bug nest here. I wasn’t following you on purpose, really! You have to believe me! I’m just a cultivator from outside the Death Desert, here with some fellow cultivators to seek treasures. I swear I won’t tell anyone about meeting the four of you!”

At this point, Gu Yao and the others had already revealed their appearances, and very few people wouldn’t recognize them now.

However, neither Tian Feirong nor the little fatty paid attention to the man’s pleading eyes and words. They both looked toward Chi Changye. It was up to him to decide what to do. Gu Yao, too, remained indifferent. Why would someone be hiding here rather than continuing their search?

Moreover, such a sophisticated hiding method, if not for their vigilance, would have gone unnoticed. The very fact of such an advanced concealment technique raised suspicion.

Chi Changye gathered his spiritual power again, and the man fell silent. Desperately struggling, his eyes flickered between pleading and anger. Chi Changye raised his hand and struck the man’s Tianling Cap (a vital point on the head), causing the man to immediately die. Chi Changye didn’t remove his hand but used it to search the man’s soul. Any problems would be immediately revealed.

Halfway through the soul search, the man’s soul scattered into nothingness. Just like before, his soul had been sealed. Chi Changye withdrew his hand, his expression unchanged. “It seems our movements have already been exposed, and Tian Feirong’s identity has been suspected.”

Tian Feirong gritted his teeth. Even for his own survival, he had to fight to the end with these people. Otherwise, the only outcome would be death.

“Let’s go.” Chi Changye waved his hand, leading the way with Gu Yao following. Tian Feirong and the little fatty quickly followed behind. After they left, there was a rustling sound from behind. Not long after, the body was completely covered by bugs and strange plants, eventually ending up like his former companions—bones no longer remaining.

Back on the surface, the desert stretched out in a sea of yellow sand. But to Tian Feirong, it felt like much more time had passed.

He turned and looked toward the secret realm. The most important thing inside was already in his possession. He didn’t know if he would ever return, but perhaps his talents were ultimately limited. As his lifespan drew to a close, he might come back to this place to sit in meditation, just like the ancestors, releasing the Azure flame from his body and leaving it in the secret realm to wait for a fated successor.

As they neared the edge of the Death Desert, Tian Feirong finally returned to his usual demeanor. Of course, it might also be because his cultivation had improved. He now appeared much more composed than before, at least in the eyes of others.

A few days later, they arrived at a larger cultivation city to rest. Compared to their time in the Death Desert, it felt like they had come back to life. They ordered a table full of various spirit vegetables and ate to their hearts’ content, feeling fully satisfied.

Tian Feirong leaned back lazily, picking his teeth. “Chi Changye, where are we going next?”

Chi Changye, sipping spiritual tea, responded gracefully, “You’ll know when we get there. Don’t worry. Even if your identity is suspected, they can’t do anything now.”

Tian Feirong smirked and said, “Of course I know. With you around, who would dare to come after us? The safest thing is to follow you.”

After resting for a day, they continued their journey. For the following days, they remained aboard their flying magical artifact. Although Tian Feirong had gained the most from their journey through the Death Desert, Gu Yao and the little fatty had also seen some improvements in their cultivation. Moreover, they noticed that their internal spiritual energy had become much purer. Even in such a harsh and spiritually barren place like the Death Desert, there were still some benefits to be gained.

It seemed that the greater the pressure, the more one could unlock their potential.

Gu Yao held the alchemy furnace and watched the pills inside. He had just finished refining a batch of pills, and the little fatty was puzzled. “Didn’t you succeed in refining them?”

Chi Changye picked up a pill. It seemed to shimmer with tiny stars, and then he tossed it into his mouth, startling Tian Feirong and the little fatty. They had no idea what kind of pill Gu Yao had made, yet he had eaten it so carelessly. After all, Gu Yao was known to experiment with toxic concoctions.

Gu Yao couldn’t help but laugh. “Why didn’t you ask before you ate it? How does it feel?”

Chi Changye smirked and replied, “This should be a Beixing Pill. Has it been completely restored? Hmm, the Beixing Grass you used doesn’t seem to be very old, so it doesn’t help me much, but the direction is correct.”

He could feel a refreshing energy rising to his sea of consciousness, like a cool breeze sweeping through, clearing his mind and spirit. If a cultivator in the Qi Refining stage or just at the Foundation Establishment stage used it, they would likely experience a noticeable effect.

“Yes, it’s the Beixing Pill. But it still feels a bit lacking. I’ll continue refining it with the younger Beixing Grass. I’ll keep the oldest one for now,” Gu Yao said, feeling that there was still room for improvement. He was increasingly aware of both his strengths and weaknesses in alchemy.
