Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Speed at 60 MPH!
Even though Waver screamed at the top of his lungs to stop, it had no effect. Alexander, riding Bucephalus, which crackled with electricity, reached an altitude of over a thousand meters in just a few breaths. The rate of ascent was terrifying.
If not for the fact that Waver couldn't handle higher acceleration, the climb would have been even faster.
Not even a trained pilot could withstand such intense acceleration, let alone a rookie magus like Waver. He would have passed out instantly.
The near-vertical climb caused Waver's rear end to lift off the horse's back at one point, and he nearly thought he was going to fall to his death. Fortunately, Alexander quickly grabbed him.
Otherwise, falling from this height... Waver would probably become a "Waver pancake."
"Hold on tight, Master!" Alexander casually placed Waver behind him and pulled on the reins, continuing to fly into the distance. "I'm going to speed up!!!"
"No! Let me down! It's too fast, I'll die!" Looking at the tiny lights on the ground, Waver was so scared he almost wet himself. He had no choice but to cling to Alexander with all his strength to avoid falling off. The brief moment when he had almost slipped off the horse had nearly given him a heart attack.
Fortunately, Alexander was short enough for Waver to hold onto. Well... Waver himself was only 157 cm tall, just 6 cm taller than Alexander, who stood at 151 cm.
"By the way, there's really no one fighting. Isn't this the Holy Grail War?" While maintaining his incredible speed, Alexander let go of the reins and turned to look down to the left. He didn't see any signs of other Servants fighting, which left him somewhat disappointed.
In his mind, the Holy Grail War should be a real, head-to-head battle, like the Olympics.
"Of course! This is the Holy Grail War! Who in their right mind would come out and challenge others to a fight, except for someone as single-minded as you?"
"Also, the Holy Grail War is supposed to be a hidden battle. If ordinary people find out, it'll be a huge problem!"
As he spoke, Waver suddenly noticed Alexander's extremely dangerous maneuver and shouted in panic, "Hey! Pay attention to driving! If we fall, we'll die!"
"Don't worry, my Riding skill is A+. Even if I were to drive with one hand, or even upside down and backward, I could still perfectly control my mount!" With that, Alexander let go of the reins and prepared to stand up. "Well, I'll just show you."
"Stop! Be normal! I... I'm scared!!!"
Seeing Alexander's actions, Waver was so frightened that tears streamed down his face, and he even felt like he might lose control of his bladder.
When he had first learned that his Servant was one of the four great military commanders, a man who had built a massive empire stretching from Greece in the west to the Indus River in the east, and from Egypt in the south to the Black Sea and Armenia in the north in just ten years, Waver had thought he would be incredibly reliable.
However... after just one day of firsthand experience, Waver was completely certain that this guy was a total brat!
A brat through and through. Honestly, aside from his height, Waver couldn't see any resemblance between this kid and Alexander the Great.
"Well, I'll demonstrate after we land... Huh? Master, I sense a Servant!" Just as Alexander was about to sit back down on his horse and prepare to land to demonstrate for Waver, he suddenly felt an intense Servant presence. Instantly, he became excited.
And, unsurprisingly, this presence was coming straight for them.
"Master, see? I told you this is a war! Someone's already challenging us! Since they've invited us, how can we refuse?"
"They're not challenging you; they're responding to your challenge..."
"Either way, let's charge!" As soon as Alexander finished speaking, he pulled on the reins, causing Bucephalus to turn and gallop toward the direction of the challenging Servant.
As they charged, Bucephalus's speed increased rapidly, and the lightning covering its body grew more intense, eventually forming a full suit of lightning "armor"!
If Bucephalus had been a bat hidden in the night sky before, it had now transformed into a meteor. Due to the streetlights, it wasn't too noticeable to pedestrians, but it was still visible to the naked eye.
For the other participants of the Holy Grail War, however, it was as conspicuous as the sun in broad daylight. If they couldn't see it, they might as well be blind.
If the Archer of this Holy Grail War decided to play dirty and ambush Waver and Alexander, they would likely hit their mark with ease. Fortunately, no Servants attacked them along the way.
Thanks to the Rider class's incredible mobility, in just a few seconds, Alexander and Bucephalus were about to reach the location of the Servant presence.
The opposing Servant was standing in the open area in front of Homurahara Academy, waiting for Alexander's arrival.
"Ah, I can see them now!" Alexander clearly saw the person who had "challenged" him—a woman dressed in crimson battle attire. "We're landing, Master!"
With a thunderous roar, Alexander guided Bucephalus to a "smooth" landing on the open ground in front of Homurahara Academy's gates. The impact cracked the ground and kicked up a massive cloud of dust. Even the school's signboard, dozens of meters away, fell to the ground due to the intense vibrations.
To an uninformed bystander, it might have looked like a student who didn't want to go to school had decided to blow up the entrance overnight.
"Finally here, huh? What a flashy entrance. But you won't be so cocky anymore! You'll fall before my... my...?"
As the dust settled, the crimson-clad female Servant, who had been preparing to deliver a fierce declaration, suddenly choked on her words when she saw the boy on the horse.
"You... you are..."
"Can't you drive this horse more steadily?!" Waver, feeling like he was about to get a concussion from the shaking, weakly held onto Alexander's shoulder.
"Ah, next time, next time!"
Hearing this, Waver almost fainted and fell off the horse. "There's going to be a next time?!"
Just as Waver was about to vomit, he suddenly noticed that the Servant opposite them seemed to be wearing the exact same outfit as his own Servant?
Honestly, he had wanted to complain about this from the start. First, he summoned a cigar-smoking British man in a suit who claimed to be Zhuge Liang, and now he encountered another Servant wearing the exact same outfit as his other Servant?
It made Waver wonder if the Holy Grail War had a uniform distribution system for Servants' clothing.
Adult men get suits, while women and young boys get identical ancient Greek skirts, right?
Although he knew this was impossible, the current situation made it hard not to think that way. Now he was regretting more and more stealing his teacher's package and coming to Fuyuki to participate in the Holy Grail War.
To think, he had even borrowed money from his classmates to cover the travel expenses to Japan. The more he thought about it, the more tragic it felt.
"You... you are..." The crimson-clad female Servant was stunned as she looked at Alexander, who was casually dealing with Waver's complaints. She could now clearly sense an extremely familiar aura from him.
In fact, she didn't even need to sense his aura. Just the fact that Alexander was wearing an outfit almost identical to hers was enough to confirm his identity, not to mention he was riding Bucephalus, the famous warhorse of Alexander the Great.
Without a doubt, the person who had just landed in front of her on Bucephalus was her lord, Alexander the Great.
Even though she had never seen Alexander in his youth, and the young Alexander was completely different from the adult Alexander, she was still absolutely certain that this was him.
Her true name was Hephaestion, Alexander's most trusted confidant. No one—no one—understood Alexander better than she did!
If anyone claimed to understand him better, she would just have to eliminate them.
However... although it felt somewhat disrespectful, she couldn't help but think that the current Alexander was... kind of cute.
"Ah, sorry, sorry. I've been ignoring you since earlier." After finally calming down Waver's frantic complaints, Alexander turned to Hephaestion upon hearing her surprised words. "Were you asking for my name just now?"
"Listen well! I am the son of Zeus, the king of Macedon... Mmmph!" Alexander grandly drew his sword and began proclaiming his identity.
But before he could finish, Waver immediately reacted, covering Alexander's mouth with both hands. "Idiot! Why are you revealing your true name?!"
"This is war! In war, revealing your true name is how you gain honor, isn't it?" Alexander gently pried Waver's hands away and looked at him strangely. He was starting to think that his Master might be a bit too timid.
When Zhuge Liang had told him that his Master would be joining him in battle, Alexander had been thrilled to have such a brave Master. But now... it seemed like his bravery was mixed with a lot of fear.
"Do you think you're a samurai from Japan's Warring States period? Are you going to announce your name and challenge someone to a duel?" Waver couldn't help but cover his face in despair.
At this point, Waver was almost completely fed up with his Servants' antics.
First, Alexander had suddenly decided to go out and pick a fight. Then, Zhuge Liang had tricked Alexander into thinking Waver wanted to join the battle and had thrown him out the window!
And as if that wasn't enough, now that a real fight was about to break out, Alexander was planning to reveal his true name!
If Waver had a weaker mindset, he might have just given up at this point.
"As you can see, my Master doesn't seem too keen on me revealing my true name. It seems we'll have to fight without knowing each other's identities. What a shame." With that, Alexander pushed off the horse with one hand and leaped into the air, landing gracefully about ten meters in front of Hephaestion.
He held his sword in one hand and assumed a fighting stance. "By the way, your outfit is almost identical to mine. Are you also a hero from Greece?"
"Something like that." Hephaestion also prepared for battle, though her expression was hesitant. She was secretly wondering if she should really fight her lord. Wouldn't that be incredibly disrespectful?
She had been sent here by her current Master, who had ordered her to attack Alexander because "someone dared to be more arrogant than me."
If she didn't fight, her idiot Master would definitely use a Command Seal to force her to continue. After all, her Master had come up with the ridiculous idea of having her spread hostility everywhere to lure out enemies and eliminate them—a plan that made Hephaestion's scalp tingle with dread.
But the person standing before her was the lord she had served in life and the person she admired most. How could she possibly fight him?
"Wow... so fast! What kind of speed is this?!" Feeling the wind rushing past him as Tom sprinted like the wind, Minamoto began to doubt whether he even had any weight. He was being carried by Tom as if they were flying.
Looking down, Minamoto noticed that Tom had somehow put on roller skates, and there were even rocket boosters attached to the back!
The most absurd part was that these rocket boosters had no visible energy source. They were just generating energy out of thin air, completely violating the law of conservation of mass!
Tom was wearing these roller skates and effortlessly carrying Minamoto as they raced up the mountain road toward Homurahara Academy.
If Minamoto wasn't mistaken, they were going at least 60 mph!
Even when taking sharp turns, Tom didn't slow down at all, charging forward at full speed as if inertia didn't exist for him.
Feeling the thrill of racing through the winding mountain road on Tom's back, Minamoto felt his legs go weak. "So... so fast... such a fast ride!!!"
Watching Tom and Minamoto flying through the air, seemingly imprinted on the moon, the three people on the ground were completely dumbfounded.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still.
However, after just five seconds of hovering in the air, Tom and Minamoto began to plummet at an incredible speed, as if gravity had suddenly increased tenfold.
According to the laws of physics, such acceleration shouldn't be possible in such a short time.
