Chapter 3: #FIRST TOFFEE
Even when he is a millionaire, Thomas loved to live a simple life which will depict his status but also showcase his love for normality. Thomas's everyday schedule included of attending meetings, signing the documents, discussing his business plans, going on trips. Apart from this, mostly he loved spending time with the children whom he sponsored and interacting with people of his estate.
Even though he was the owner, the people felt a close relationship with him due to his down to earth nature and benevolence. They shared their woes and happiness with him, making the estate people a one big family. He listened to their complaints, requests and ideas while sharing his thoughts to make the society a better, comfortable and happy place to live.
As a norm, every week a batch of children whom he sponsored would visit his estate for a day with their respective teachers👩🏻🏫, so as to have a close interaction and better understanding of children minds and needs. As such today was the turn of the youngest batch of children. Based upon the children's age the meet-up was held accordingly.
For example, Thomas discussed employment and jobs, business trends with youth adults who are ready to takeover the society; goals, directions and dreams with the teenagers; studies and sports with middle schoolers, while he played games with little kids suiting their age and read them stories. Children looked forward to this day as they could proudly present their achievements to Thomas who in return would shower them with compliments and gifts as rewards. It was set up to encourage the children all the while making them self reliant.
As usual the youngest orphans were taken to the estate for the meet-up but Yves the youngest of all children was unable to go as she came up with a high fever the night before. She was left to one of the teachers while her class teacher went with the children. Yves was very sad as she could not go with her classmates. Upset with the situation, she sat on a swing in the playground of the orphanage with her head drooped down, crying as tears rolled down her rosy cheeks with little sobs in middle.
Hearing her cry, a little boy who was the same age as her walked to her as he extended his hand with a toffee on his palm. The young boy had a beautiful face with jet black hair, black eyes sparkling like stars in the night sky, a tiny nose and lips colored in the shade of pink rose petals. He told the little girl to eat the toffee and stop crying 😭, Yves looked at the toffee then at the boy, she uttered the word STARS! as she took the toffee and popped into her mouth and stopped crying as she began to savor the taste of the sweet toffee in her mouth with sparkles in her eyes 👀 at the sweet taste, with a joyful smile playing on her lips👄. Seeing her smile, the boy smiled 😊 too and soon they both began swinging, each alternatively taking turns on the swing while the other pushed, laughing joyfully as they played.
After sometime a woman ♀️ dressed in black and white uniform designed for a nanny came looking. She whispered some words to the little boy, after she spoke the boy hugged 🫂 the little girl and bid her goodbye. Then the nanny took him in her arms, as they waved their hands 👋🏻 . A few minutes went by and Yves walked back to her room as soon as their forms were out of her sight. Yves was happy as it was the first time she had a toffee.
As the youngest of all in her batch, Yves was often bullied and isolated. Sometimes her food🍞🧃while other times, her things were often snatched and theived by the children older than her. But she never once complained to her teachers nor did she cry as she heard the orphanage children talking about the children who will not be loved and sent out of orphanage if they cried, complained or didn't behave. Little Yves having no one tell her otherwise, believed it; as such the young girl was forced to act as an adult despite being a child.
Her circumstances being such, the toffee given to her by the little boy left a deep impression on her, as he was the first child to ever offer her a toffee, having been accustomed to being taken away. Not knowing his name, she decided to name him stars as eyes sparkled like stars. Yves loved the stars that twinkled in the dark sky night, as she was told they were her parents who shine for her because they love her.
Until today, she never once felt this happy. This incident let the urge in her to never let the orphanage children ever snatch things from her. Because now that she knows the sweet taste of toffee, the child greed in her boosted her will.
Young Yves believed the brighter the star shone the more her parents loved her. The stars were her only companions who brought smile on her lips and warmed her heart. So every night, she wished looking at the stars.
Next day, she went to school and it happened to a birthday of her classmates. Chocolates were distributed per usual, Yves got one too. This time too she decided to have it after lunch.
During lunch time, she ate her food and as she was about to open the chocolate and eat, a girl sitting beside her snatched it. She remembered the girl, who was one of the girls who always took her things.
But this time, Yves resolved to not back down, she went to the teacher and complained against the girl. Though, the girl simply stated that the chocolate was hers.
Seeing the girl lie, Yves asked her what's the flavour of the chocolate? Taken aback the girl replied: strawberry! in a panic. Yves then told the teacher her chocolate was orange flavoured.
Hearing them, the teacher decided to open the chocolate to find Yves was telling the truth. The girl got punished for lying and was made to apologise Yves, returning back her chocolate. The teacher rewarded another chocolate to Yves as an encouragement for telling truth. That day marked as a happy day for her.
