Vampire Cultivation System in a Hidden World of Monsters

Chapter 188: Chief of Police

"What the fuck did you do to my lobby?" Pete said over the phone.

"How did you get my number?" I said.

"I just thought about calling you and the number came to me, remember?" He said.

"Oh yeah. Well, don't get mad at me. Your front desk officer wouldn't let me see you. And then he attacked me and tried to arrest me," I said.

"He did what?" Pete said.

"Yeah, he thought I was some random suspicious guy falsely claiming to have the jewels. He tried to shoo me out of the lobby and I was stubborn. So I returned the jewels despite him being an asshole. Sue me if you have a problem with the way I do things," I said.

"I suppose that's fair, but you have no idea how hard it was to convince people not to label you as an enemy of the state," he said.

"I'm sorry, but your officer was very disrespectful to me and I had enough. It's not like he got hurt or anything," I said.

"Yeah, you didn't hurt Dale. You just freaked him out. He was stuck like that for two hours before people could dig him out," he laughed.

"So, I'm realizing it's going to be a lot of work for you guys to return all these jewels to their rightful places. Are you sure you don't want me to just keep the rest of them?

"What do you mean, 'the rest of them'?" He said.

"I mean the rest of the stolen jewels," I said. "That was only about 1% of the stolen jewels."

"What? 1%? Are you serious?" He said.

"Very," I said. "They stole them to power up their army of jewel elemental fighters. They needed a lot of jewels to do that. A police lobby of jewels isn't that much when it comes to providing ammunition for an army. Imagine if that was the amount of bullets you had to supply an entire army of troops? Not much, right?"

"Right," he said. "Well, maybe you should keep the rest of the jewels. My administrative staff will be working day and night to return just the jewels you left in the lobby. There's no way they could handle the rest."

"Ok. Can do buddy," I said. "You say it like you're in charge or something." I laughed.

"I am. I'm the Chief of Police. What, did you think I was just some random cop?" He laughed. Experience more on My Virtual Library Empire

"Uh, kind of," I said. "That does explain why Dale was so against me seeing you. He probably thought I was some crazy dude with a vendetta."

"Dale is very protective of me and my time. He often makes the mistake of not checking with me first about whether I'm expecting to see someone," Pete said.

"Before I go, how involved do you want to be in monster goings-on and investigations I conduct? I could include you in the monster society. Technically, they are in the US and could be subject to its laws if the government pressed hard enough. Just know if you fuck up and go too far, I will be there to correct you. I'm basically the monster godfather. They don't know it yet, but they will," I said.

"I'd like it if you included us, yes, but I won't interfere if the monster society wants to police itself," he said.

"That's very understanding of you, but that doesn't really happen. As far as I know, there is no police force. Different monster groups kind of handle their own shit and if one group steps out of line, another group gets involved and smacks them down," I said. "Like how I did with the elementals."

"Sounds like gang wars," he said. "Wait you got into a fight with the organization that stole hundreds of millions of dollars in jewels? Isn't that dangerous?"

"It is, but I can handle myself. The only fight I'm worried about right now is with the European Vampire Association. They're the big dogs of the vampire world," I said.

"Well if you need backup, I can spare some men to help you," he said.

"I appreciate the sentiment, but you'd be sending them to slaughter. These vampires are likely bulletproof like me. There's nothing the police can do to stop them," I said.

"Well, that's not entirely true. If you use silver bullets, you can harm them, and I just so happen to have a massive supply of guns, silver bullets, and silver weapons. Actually, I might take the help, if you're ok with throwing your men into the most dangerous situation they've ever been in," I said.

"I'll think about it," Pete said after a few seconds of silence. "What are you going to do with the jewels now that you're not returning them?"

"If you must know, I'll probably sell them back to the elementals. They need to get their shit together in more ways than one but it might by me some good will with them if they feel like they're getting a deal," I said.

"Ok, well, I'll let you get to that. I have to deal with a zombie outbreak in the lower downtown area," he said.

"Good luck," I said.

"You too," he said and hung up the phone.

[Pete has hung up on you]

'Send Pete a message that says, "How's the dick hanging?"'

[Sent]

[He responded, "Low"]

I laughed. Alright, it was time to deal with my other responsibilities. I had spent enough time building a good relationship with the local police, so I didn't get a warrant out for my arrest. I knew I was untouchable by humankind. I wasn't worried about being harmed, but you'd be surprised how hard it is to do business when your face is broadcast all over the news.

[You are receiving a call from Yuki]

'Put her on.'

"Hey, Dylan," she said. She was breathing heavily. "I need your help."

"What's wrong?" I said, concerned.

"Someone is chasing me and I don't know who. They've been following me ever since I left the monster pit arena," she said.

"I'll be right there! Tell me your location!" I said.

She told me her location and I was out the door.
