Chapter 24 - The Class Reunion (Part 1)

Chapter 24: The Class Reunion (Part 1)

Lin Jia had lost her phone back when Yang Yu played the hero, rescuing her. Since she was abroad, she couldn’t replace her SIM card until she got back home.

Meng Yun had no idea about this. After several failed calls, all going straight to voicemail, his mind started spinning wild theories.

Imagination can be terrifying. Thoughts of why Lin Jia’s phone was off flooded Meng Yun’s mind—anxiety, fear, panic, and even anger.

With no other option, Meng Yun and Yu Fei mobilized all their connections to dig up information on Yang Yu.

Meanwhile, Yang Yu and Lin Jia were already on their flight home.

As they walked out of the airport, Lin Jia pouted in frustration while Yang Yu grinned, playfully trying to cheer her up. They looked just like a bickering couple.

On the tenth day of Yang Yu’s “injury,” Lin Jia accidentally caught him moving around as if nothing had ever happened.

Without saying a word, she approached his doctor for confirmation. The doctor, having been bribed, covered for Yang Yu, explaining that his injuries were only superficial. Thanks to his strong constitution, he had fully recovered within a week.

By now, Lin Jia had developed feelings for Yang Yu. So instead of getting angry at his little act, she found it amusing—assuming he had only faked it to gain her sympathy. Rather than being mad, she even felt a little pleased.

Of course, she couldn’t let him get away with it too easily. So, every now and then, she would bring up his deception and throw a small tantrum just to keep him on his toes.

They playfully bickered all the way to the store, where they bought a new phone and replaced her SIM card.

Afterward, Lin Jia wanted to visit Ding Dian. Yang Yu offered to tag along but was firmly rejected, leaving him with no choice but to head home alone.

The moment Ding Dian saw Lin Jia glowing with happiness, she had to suppress a twinge of jealousy.

With a teasing smirk, she quipped, “Wow! Gone for over ten days. At first, you still called, but then your phone was completely off. Alone with a guy all this time—are you sure nothing unspeakable happened?”

Lin Jia blushed. “Stop making things up. I just lost my phone.”

She didn’t mention the run-in with the gangsters, not wanting Ding Dian to worry.

Ding Dian handed her a cup of her favorite coffee, and they settled in for a chat.

As Lin Jia scrolled through her newly activated phone while chatting, she noticed several missed calls and messages from Meng Yun.

There was a time when she had desperately wished he would be the first to reach out, apologize, and give her a reason to forgive him.

But now, seeing his calls pop up out of nowhere, she found herself at a loss. She had no idea how to respond.

“Meng Yun called me. Should I call him back?” she asked, hoping Ding Dian would help her decide.

Ding Dian smirked. “You’re getting all cozy with Yang Yu, yet you still can’t let go of Meng Yun?”

“My mind’s a mess, that’s why I came to you. Tell me what to do.”

Ding Dian had always been on Team Yang Yu.

“You stuck with Meng Yun when he was broke, and now that he’s made money, how did he treat you? Meanwhile, Yang Yu’s been wealthy from the start and still treats you like a queen. Even an idiot would know who to choose.”

Lin Jia knew Ding Dian had a point, but she still couldn’t completely let go of Meng Yun. Her feelings were all over the place, and she couldn’t decide.

Just then, her phone rang.

“Lin Jia! You finally turned your phone on. I’ve been trying to reach you forever!”

It was an old college classmate.

“I lost my phone while traveling abroad. What’s up?”

“Perfect timing! We’re having a class reunion tomorrow night. You have to come! It’s been years since we all got together. You can even bring a plus-one.”

Excited by the idea, Lin Jia immediately agreed. It had been five years since graduation, and they’d never had a proper reunion. She was looking forward to it.

After confirming the time and place, she hung up.

Ding Dian smirked. “A class reunion, huh? Back in college, you had tons of guys chasing after you, but you chose Meng Yun, the broke one. Now that he’s successful and you two are over, I bet plenty of people will be dying to see you fail.”

Lin Jia rolled her eyes. “Come on, they’re just old classmates. It’s not that deep.”

“Believe what you want, but either way, you have to look amazing. No arguments. We’re going shopping.” Without waiting for a reply, Ding Dian dragged Lin Jia out the door.

As they left, she called over her employee, Ke’er. “Keep an eye on the shop, okay? Close up when it’s time—I won’t be back tonight.”

By the time they got home, they were lugging bags upon bags of new clothes and accessories.

Collapsing onto the couch, Lin Jia sighed. “Shopping was fun, but I’m going to regret this when my credit card bill arrives next month.”

Ding Dian smirked. “Why worry? Just bat your eyelashes at him across the hall, and he’d probably buy the whole mall for you.”

They burst into laughter, playfully shoving each other as the room filled with lighthearted joy.
